I don’t think anybody here is trying to be mean… however you keep getting upset over the Berserker and swearing and such… even after we provided some data and evidence as well as a discussion on the topic with @Taemien reciting thrall history all the way back to when they were introduced…
I’ll go one step further back… believe it or not this game did not have follower thralls at the beginning… it had crafter thralls and fighters and archers were just static defense to decorate your base with, most didn’t even bother capturing those. So no, this is not Ark…
I showed you a video where a Cimmerian Berserker killed the boss in question… with me only watching… even though it was painful to watch 4 worms chasing him doing extra damage when it would’ve been so easy for me to pick those off without any risk to myself and even with that help my thrall…
On a different video… I showed you that the player character CAN do it as well… simply because you presented it as if it was some impossible task because you have a limited stamina pool and don’t have as much HP as your thrall…
And this was far from an optimal scenario as well. I even pointed out that I made a LOT of mistakes there and the “lesson” I learned since this was the first time I killed that boss solo…
That’s how things work… you try something… you learn from it… and next time I’ll definitely use a different weapon against those worms as my short-sword couldn’t hit them… If you never try… you never learn…
The difference between the two videos was that on the second one I was playing the game… while on the first one I was WATCHING my thrall play the game…
Does that mean the “pokemon master” (as it’s called here) playstyle is invalid?.. No… it still works… you literally have video evidence of it above…
But in the past it was overshadowing actual player gameplay to where you felt useless like you’re the bearer for your thrall and it definitely needed some adjustment… - in fact I think it could still use some.
@Jimbo is pretty much telling you the same thing, but in a more blunt fashion.
I have never touted that berserkers were top tier thralls. Not in Early Access, not in 1.0, not in Siptah, and not in Age of Sorcery. I’ve always recommended people to use Relic Hunter Treasure Seekers since they were available.
They sort of are… they’re like third…
You have some volcano fighters and rhts above them if you really want to min-max…
But they’re certainly not bad, I mean you saw it right here, he pretty much kicked the butt of that boss with all its summoners and demons and spawns I would never dare to call that “bad” or “non top-tier”… an exile named thrall from near the river certainly would never be able to do that… and possibly even a cannibal brute would be on less than half HP even after dealing with the 2 demons.
The true top tier fighter is yourself. Put some levels into yourself, invest in your skill and your build. No thrall will ever replace a player in capability.
Then you didn’t play on Official servers when Berserkers were available in Nord lands. They were, pound for pound, the toughest and prettiest of them all. Anybody at Launch wanted to own the Nord spawns and took land thereabouts, only to discover poof they were removed from the game.
To echo what has often already been said, seems like there are two mindsets with this game. Folks who want the thralls to do most of the heavy lifting and those who want to do most of the hard work themselves.
I’m leaning towards the latter. I’m finding it refreshing that you have to do more of the fighting and can’t just ride around in circles while your one thrall wipes all the bosses in U city. To me that is really boring. Honestly I wouldn’t be upset if they nerfed them even a bit more. At 4k HP the Treasure Hunters still seem to hold their own quite well but you do have to help them out a bit.
To be fair, I don’t think there’s many that actually want the thralls to do all their work for them. I think there are those who are struggling and frustrated that they don’t know how to utilize the systems in place. In their defense, the system isn’t easy to just look at and go.
When someone says “My berserker gets trashed and I can’t complete this stuff.” I don’t believe they want to go in there and just watch the thrall get all the glory. They want to simply complete the content.
And its tough without doing extensive testing to just play the game and see at a glance what is better than another. If you took a Cimmerian Berserker Thrall and A Relic Hunter Treasure Seeker thrall and both are level 0, and look at their stats side by side. The latter looks weak af. But its a much stronger thrall because ‘reasons’. That’s where the frustration is.
That’s where my frustration with most of this is, and I’m one of those who is ‘in the know’ who has seen the stats in the wiki, the admin console, and the devkit. Hell I would say it even frustrates me more because I can see how it all works and its BS. It really is.
This statement is 100% correct. He’s not wrong when he makes this statement. He’s right, 100% right. And its frustrating both of us because I’m sitting here telling him to use what looks like a weaker thrall because its set up in a weird way. And basically say ‘trust me’. Because showing the proof in the tables in the devkit would just confuse the hell out of everyone.
But as I said before, I’ve told Funcom, I’ve told Dennis specifically that this needs to change. And yes he does agree. But there is so much tangled mess that its not a change that can be made overnight. I still think they should take the time to make it happen. And its going to suck because its going to break things. There’s so many intertwining systems that simply cannot be accounted for 100%. But in the end it will make for a better experience. Not just for new players but vets as well.
Because lets face it. WTF should I have to check a table to remember what is good? As a veteran player of 5,000 hours played it would be simply nice to just check a stat page and see it right then and there. It helps me, and it helps newbies make proper choices. Everyone wins.
Absolutely! It’s sooo frustrating that we don’t have more data/info available about things in-game to help us make decisions. I’m fine with exploring and experiencing content. I’m not fine with having to farm/grind in something just to find out it’s crap. That’s a slap in the face to players. And the answer should not be to log in on single player and test stuff.
Ha! I did exactly the same thing on the same event. Used 4 LS’s and two wall’o fires. The first 2 and 1 were on the two evil ninja dudes tho. And yeah, ended up needing to whack the final dude with the warhammer a few times to finish up.
Food here or there… just to be sure… you ARE giving your thralls either a two-handed sword or a one-handed mace, right? Like if you give them some weird things like a katana or a short-sword… don’t be surprised that they keep dying… they’re dumb… they don’t even know which end of those to hold…
So either 2h sword when facing lots of low-hp enemies, cuz it cleaves…
or 1h mace when facing bosses etc since they do the most single-target damage with that… and utilize combos the best.
After 3.0, I was WTFing all over the place, especially when I lost 2 followers to that freakshow on the bridge, it then killed me and I had to dodge naked thru sub-zero temps to get my things back. I never did recover my dead followers gear. I basically was as frustrated as JohnnyWylder.
It takes a lot of playing with the attributes and armor/weapons to get it right. I am now in love with the new system.
Here is my attribute set up, and it works great.
While this is true, and a lot of us veterans have internalized that to the point it even ‘seems logical’ or self-apparent, it really isn’t. It’s ‘a quirk’ if I’m being generous, and since I’m in a good mood let’s go with that, but logical it is not.
To the topic, I personally feel like the 3.0 changes regarding thrall/player power dynamic is a lot better. I prefer running with a thrall, but I now have to invest in it for that to be effective (this is good), and my player character is still more powerful than they were before.
There’s actually a point to me joining the fight now - I run 15 agi, no str, full Auth, so I’m hardly ‘a powerhouse’ yet I still do decent damage (I’m squishy but that’s a choice), and while the thrall at lvl 20 with decent perks and epic heavy armor probably could solo most things still - excepting maybe Rockslide - it’s a lot faster and more fun if I join in.
