Co-op not able to connect

Hi. Me and a friend have issues connecting to our co-op games. I can’t connect to him and he can’t connect to me. All it says is “Attempting to join host” (or something like that) and that just chugs forever. We have both removed all the mods, started a new world, fiddled with the firewall and the routers AND uninstalled and installed the ENTIRE GAME, but NOTHING is working. Does anyone know how to fix this?

1. Check NAT Type

  • If either of you has a Strict NAT type, it can block connections.
  • You can check this in your router settings or by using a tool like portquiz.net.
  • If one of you has Strict NAT, try enabling UPnP in your router settings or manually port forwarding.

2. Port Forwarding

  • Some co-op games require specific ports to be open. Look up the game’s required ports and forward them in your router settings.
  • Typically, this is done in Advanced Settings > Port Forwarding in your router’s interface.

3. Use a VPN

  • Some ISPs block peer-to-peer (P2P) connections. A VPN like ProtonVPN or NordVPN can help bypass this.
  • Try having one of you connect through a VPN and then host the game.

4. Try LAN via Hamachi or Radmin VPN

  • If the game supports LAN play, you can use LogMeIn Hamachi or Radmin VPN to simulate a local network and bypass connection issues.
  • One of you hosts a LAN game, and the other joins via direct IP.

5. Disable IPv6

  • Some games have issues with IPv6.
  • Go to Network & Internet Settings > Change adapter options, right-click your connection, choose Properties, and uncheck Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6).

6. Check Windows Defender / Antivirus

  • Even though you already checked the firewall, Windows Defender or a third-party antivirus might still be blocking the game.
  • Try disabling real-time protection temporarily and launching the game.

7. Test with Another Friend

  • If possible, try connecting with a different friend to see if the issue is between just you two or a general problem with your connection/game.
