Game mode: Online Public Type of issue: Connection Failure Server type: PvE - C Region: OCE
I keep trying to connect to a public modded server with 31 mods, but everytime I load up the game and attempt to connect to this server it initially loads for quite a while and then says connection failed. After I try to reattempt connection after this without restart, it says Pending Connection Failed, with an authentication error as subtext. I’ve tried reinstalling BattlEye, reinstalling Conan, restarting my computer, ending any other Conan instances in task manager but it still manages to do this time and time again. I’ve tried any sort of hotfix for like 4 days now, even tried connecting to an official server, and it still doesn’t work. With the official server it just says attempting to connect forever, and I have to alt+f4 the game. How do I fix this?
Can you start a solo game, both with and without mods?
Can’t start without mods points towards a game or Steam problem. Can’t start with mods points to a mod problem.
If both pass the test, check your ping to the Oceanic server in the server selection screen.
When you tried to connect to an official, did you disable the mods or delete them, along with the modlist (there may be remnants elsewhere, someone else would have more of a clue)?
Thanks jim, I have tried to start a solo play with mods. It was unsuccessful, and when I tried to connect to an official server, it told me to restart the game and the conan client itself had purged my mod loadout in order to connect to the offical server. However I still couldn’t connect to the Conan server, as it was an endless loading problem. I feel that the mod being the issue is plausible, however half a year ago when I was last playing Conan I had a similar size of mod content and managed to load in fine.
You may be on the right track. The base game has been modified many times over the last 6 months and we had an update this morning. The failure to start a solo modded game usually indicates the mod author has not had time to compensate for the changes and release a new version, but that does not solve the problem since you mentioned trying for 4 days.
I’ve heard mods sometimes leave remnants, but beyond that I am clueless since I don’t use mods at all.
There are experts here that would know much more than I, but they are probably working on, and testing, their mods in support of the release. Hopefully, they can chime in soon.
The other thing that perked my ears up was authentication error, which often points towards Steam, but that happened after the first failure with the game still running.
I hate to suggest this, so take it with a grain of salt, please. Uninstall CE, all the mods and Steam. Reinstall Steam, then CE, but no mods, and try to connect to an official server. If that works, we still have the problem of getting you back on your preferred server, but we’re a step ahead.
Thanks jim, I will do as instructed, as it seems to be the best fix. I’ve just heard from other friends playing on the server that they have had to just wait in order to allow the server to work, but at this point in time I’ve no better strategy or game I REALLY want to play. I’ll uninstall conan and steam, and reinstall them in the meantime. Hopefully this will give a fix but if not I’ll just have to wait. Once again thanks for your input on this matter.
I don’t know the numbers, but as the number of mods increases on a server, so do the system requirements. A server connection failure I believe is one of the errors that comes up under the circumstances that your PC just might not be able to handle the mod count.
I’m not sure how to acquire a detailed document of all my system specs, but I can give you this:
Processor: Intel® Core™ i7-6700HQ CPU @ 2.60GHz, 2592 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 8 Logical
x64 Based
DirectX 12
Hope this helps, but I don’t think the low quality of my model is enough to really hinder the connection as I was able to play before on a similar mod amount roughly half a year ago.
Kyuhai, over the past 6 months the game has grown in size and complexity (a good thing). Due to the changes, many mods have also grown to accommodate the base game (also a good thing).
You may be on the lower edge of system specs per the original brochure and the ‘line’ moved forward on you.
I see where MultiGun is going, but if you want to play you can try the things we discussed and see if they work. If no joy, you may find it necessary to upgrade your computer. Given just the processor info, without even delving into the GPU, the computer may be, well, just out of date.
Sorry to have to say that and hope someone else chimes in with a satisfactory solution, because we want you to play, too !
Hi jim, I think that you are quite correct on this matter. I’ve already had a think about requiring a new computer, and this has just made it even clearer that an upgrade is probably the best solution. Some interesting information I have seen is that it takes roughly 5 minutes for my computer to load the mods, but around 25 minutes to attempt connection to the server. In the meantime while I go about upgrades, I’ll just have to do other things. Thanks for your time!
Thanks Jim, I hope to see you as well. Sorry for reviving this matter as it seems quite clear to be a hardware issue, but I’ve played around with my computer - freeing up around 400 gigabytes of space by moving miscellaneous data onto an external harddrive, optimizing cards and processor etc etc. and I’ve been able to comfortably:
Load up modded conan in less than 5 minutes
Load up singleplayer mode in less than 10
My friend who also plays on the server that I wish to join says he takes around 15-25 to load into that server, and compared to my computer, his one is significantly better.
Since I’ve been able to load up in what I think is quite a comfortable time, do you think this might just be a server error (mayble BattlEye? some web searches into ‘authentication failed’ looked into BattlEye reinstall/ a bunch of internet or port related things) or some sort of failure of my internet?
If it takes almost 10 minutes to load into single player, it definitely suggests a hardware limitation.
In your computer specs, and I understand that you aren’t sure how to pull all of that info, the vital things missing are:
Your GPU, hard drive type, and RAM amount.
The latter two in particular are going to affect load times, and whether or not you can connect to a modded server that has a billion mods on it (and remember not all 31 modded servers are equal since the type of mods used can also directly impact your ability to connect).
My assumption is you have the game installed on a spin drive (HDD), and have a lower amount of RAM then what is necessary. If using Windows 10, which you should be and if not, do so as soon as possible, you may find the other information by doing the following:
In the Windows 10 search bar, type, dxdiag
Under System, it will tell you how much “memory” you have. This is your RAM amount. Page file underneath will tell you how much is being used and how much is available.
Under the Display 1 tab, the very first entry under “Name” should be the GPU you are using. Though I doubt it’s relevant to loading into the server.
Righto. I’ve got 8192 MB of RAM, with an Intel 530 processor. Looking at this information tells me that I more than probably just have a computer too old to run Conan Exiles, and should probably upgrade. This will be happening in a while so I’m not too fussed in this regard, it’s just that I thought that the internet was a problem, while in reality it was just my computer. I am running Conan on a HDD - would it be better if I switched it to the SDD instead? I definitely have enough space to comfortably sacrifice OS speed for Conan.
OK. I’ve moved the game to my SDD and it appears to just have the same problems, so at this point in time I’m just going to wait it out and play when I receive my upgrade. Thank you for the help all!
