Cooking meat only produces Putrid meat

Hi all, this is my first post. I hope that I’m in the right place.

I have been trying to cook meat, but it only produces putrid meat and lots of it. Am I doing some thing wrong and this a normal result for a noob or is this a bug? how do I cook savory flesh and get something that makes sense? My character needs to ween off of bugs.

Thank you

Assuming your cooking it in a campfire, it will rot over time, but it shouldn’t immediately rot.

Thank you for your reply. Maybe something is wrong because it only produces putrid meat.

Any suggestions?

More information please. Are you using a campfire, what meat are you cooking and where did it come from? It sounds as if your a new player. Are you playing on an official, or a pivate or co-op? It could be the server or game settings for the latter two.

have you placed fuel (wood, coal, etc.) in your campfire?
have you pressed the “play” button to start the cooking process?
how long does it take for the capmfire to produce spoiled meat?
have you played around with the spoil rate settings?
do you have any other item in your campfire besides fuel and meat?
are you on a pvp server?

There is an item that can be made from a recipe you get in the library at the archivist, which changes meat to putrid meat when cooked. It is called the Essence of Rot. Do you have this in your campfire?

Have you place an Essence of Rot in your campfire ?

If so it is its own effect.

I have been busy with life, sorry for the delay.

I’m cooking in a campfire but I don’t anything about recipes.

I went hunting but it took a long time before I tried cooking. Maybe the meat was just old?

Without more details it will be difficult to help you with this. However meat does expire / putrefy over time. Cooked meat does as well. If you left it in the campfire longer than it’s expiration before you came back to it that could be why it is all putrid now. Next time you put meat into the campfire stay in the window and press the play button. As soon as it is finished cooking move it to your inventory or to a preservation box with ice in it.

Thank you.

The strange thing is that it does not make my character sick. I did get food poisoning from eating putrid meat but with the issue at hand, the putrid me produced by the campfire does not poison.

This is a bug that I get sometimes on crafting stations with cooking fires of all types being most common. What seems to happen is a time-warp in which your food gets cooked and rots as soon as you click the “on” button. Try clicking the “on” button to get the fuel burning before adding your raw food to the fire.

Thank you. I’ll give it a try.

Are you leaving area? This has caused abit of time pass issues.

That worked. I finally had a filling meal. Just as you said, I had to start the fire before adding the meat.

Thank you.
