The internet is like a mirror.
Just as one might look into a mirror to examine one’s face, the internet shows us our thoughts, desires, delusions.
Like a mirror, the internet is without mercy.
A human looking at a loved one can choose to overlook all the small imperfections, to value emotion more than pure appearances.
A mirror has no such compassion. It is honest, merciless, brutal.
The internet, too, shows us a brutal, honest picture of how limited, how arrogant, how delusional we, meaning humanity as a whole, are.
In this case, it shows us that a supposedly adult person with the right to speak, vote, procreate can choose to believe to be smarter, more talented than everybody else. How a person can choose to pick an already fantastic, wish-fullfilling dream world and custom-tailor it to his own inner desires, and then believe this to be reality, and argue about that on the internet, showing his delusional state to everybody without any apparent consciousness about how others will see him and his thoughts.
Humanity has achieved so many great things. But it can also sink so low.
Sadly, the world seems to be in the hands of those who chose delusion over reality.
We, fellow humans, are lost.
