I’m at a loss in trying to troubleshoot a change that occurred to my game after a CTD last night. I was putting in a couple hours after work to level up a couple of thralls for my purge base, I had just finished my run and was about to sort loot from my inventory when it crashed and being tired, I figured that was a good sign to call it a night.
Today when I boot up the game, I immediately notice the log in screen’s dimensions are off. I play on a 43" 4k monitor with the HUD being scaled to 4k, so everything is smaller but with high detail, and running with a EVGA 3060 12GB TI overclocked to about 23%. While I know it counts as a budget card, its handled every game I’ve thrown at it just fine, I may not have all the eye candy, but till my upgrade arrives later this week, its served me very well as a upgrade to my previous 1070TI.
Anyway. When I got to the log in screen, everything was at least 150% bigger, if not 200%. I double checked my resolution settings, but it was still set to 3840x2160. But that was not what the log in screen looked like, it looked more like 1080p.
Thinking that maybe this was just a new look I had downloaded before firing up the game, I decided to finish logging in. When I got control of my character, it was clearly not the resolution from last night, everything in the HUD was 2x bigger and my screen was suddenly cramped compared to before.
I tried fiddling with the FOV, but that didn’t rescale things to where they were before, just distorted the view like a fisheye lens. I then checked my GameUserSettings.ini settings to verify that the resolution was properly set there too, and its showing 3840x2160 as well.
I’m at a loss as to figure out what happened here, can anyone offer up some pointers or things to look into as a troubleshooting path? I’d be most appreciative.
I would look to the graphic drivers, sometimes when the computer crashes due to a game or windows itself and nothing you do restores the original resolution, for me I would uninstall the drivers restart the pc and reinstall the drivers doing a clean installation.
It can be a bit of a pain having to do the settings for games or other programs but can be alot quicker and easier than trying to find the actual cause as to why it is not working as before.
Hello Cyc;
Thank you for the suggestion. I realized it had been a while since I did a clean driver install, so I fired up DDU and installed the latest driver for my card (566.14) manually today.
Unfortunately, this did not correct the problem, the menus and UI are still all blown up to what appears 1080p resolution. Still, its a solid first step to eliminating possibilities, and generally good pc maintenance so I don’t consider it an wasted effort. Guess I’ll have to keep looking.
Xevyr, Brother, you are a real MVP here!! Your post jogged my memory as I had made use of some performance guides on Steam.
The one that I had settled on had a custom config setting to the engine.ini that I had totally forgot about and it must’ve gotten wiped out. After going through it’s settings, I located the command you entered in your reply, it was set to 0.75.
You literally saved my game, thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
