D3D Device REMOVED but it runs?

Game mode: First Run
Type of issue: Crash, major bug
Server type: Not Applicable
Region: United States, Louisiana

Please provide a step-by-step process of how the bug can be reproduced. The more details you provide us with the easier it will be for us to find and fix the bug:

  1. ASRock FM2A68M-DG3+, AMD A6 5400K, 12GB DDR3 1600, NVIDIA Geforce GTX 960 (1304mhz, 112.16 gb/s memory speed, 2GB GDDR5), 500W PSU.

  2. Install Windows 10 20H2.

  3. Run windows update.

  4. Install latest NVIDIA drivers (456.71).

  5. Restart a few times.

  6. Perform windows Out Of Box Experience (as if you got a new computer).

  7. Run SteamSetup.exe from an SDHC card.

  8. Login and initiate download to a secondary empty hard drive (7200rpm).

  9. Install other software: OpenOffice, Notepad3, Rainmeter, EpicGames, MSI Afterburner, UT2004, GIMP, Open-Shell, SimpleSndVol, VLC, Netflix (store app), IOBit Unlocker, Blender, Artha (thesaurus), Firefox, Audacity, Windows 7 calculator, Windows 7 task manager.

  10. Use phone to record program run.

  11. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1I9eRUjt-7oeAopml2yDL_fODkhUVeGFo/view?usp=sharing

  12. Run Conan Exiles from Steam context menu.

  13. Be amazed it still won’t run.

  14. Try it again.

This may not be a fix but your nVidia drivers may not be up to date. 456.71 may be the latest drivers out but They are not the latest “game ready” drivers. I run a Geforce GT 730 and my drivers are at 460.89. I downloaded “nVidia Geforce experience” and it gave me the game ready drivers for my card. It may not solve your problem but I though I would post about this as it may help somewhere down the road.

Downloaded and installed 460.89
Rebooted

Only issue in log file:

[2020.12.28-05.30.24:868][ 4]LogSlate:Warning: Slate: Had to block on waiting for a draw buffer

I would guess some graphics timeout issue?

Menu pops up. No visual problems. Just poof.

Ran again. Intentionally kept Steam in focus to prevent Conan fullscreen takeover.
Log File

I’ve seen this line before:

[2020.12.28-05.40.43:189][ 45]LogD3D11RHI: Timed out while waiting for GPU to catch up. (0.5 s)

Even when the game had focus and went fullscreen.

Ran again.
Sat at menu, even FLS popup closed.
I’m all like “Maybe it’ll work this time?”
Able to move mouse for 5 seconds.
Poof.

This log file has 121 lines:

LogD3D11RHI: IDXGISwapChain::SetFullscreenState returned 887a0022; waiting for the next frame to try again.

Conan was fullscreen.
Yesterday I played Cities Skylines all day, no issues.

It almost sounds like there is a problem with the video card.

Physically removed Nvidia card.
Set 2GB vram for onboard AMD.

[2020.12.29-05.52.41:075][ 21]LogWindows:Error: Unhandled Exception: EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION 0x00000004

I was getting this before I got the Nvidia card. When I hooked Visual Studio as debugger, it signaled DirectX graphics threw the exception.

The Conan Exiles I have from Sept 15, before the Siptah update, runs just fine on both onboard and Nvidia. Not sure how it is my hardware or system setup.

With Nvidia, Visual Studio signals Nvidia that throws the exception.

Also, Conan Exiles using AMD onboard loads just like my Nvidia-run video above except I get “Fatal Error” message box instead. Funcom popup running, background menu doing its animation, etc.

After running this through google:

LogWindows:Error: Unhandled Exception: EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION 0x00000004

It comes back with a lot of Unreal Engine errors. So it may not be your hardware at all.
