@CodeMage already fixed that for us. His launcher is not only fast but it can also refresh those pings without having to restart the game (among many other super nice features). Give it a try…
Thanks for the kind words, @DaVice. That said, I want to caution people that even using BUGLE isn’t a sure fix, although it will make your experience somewhat better.
A while ago, the devs introduced a rather unfortunate change that made the login process even worse. Before that change, the game client wouldn’t let you connect to the server from the server browser if the ping was over the allowed maximum, but you could still use the “direct connect” option to do so anyway.
Due to the pressure from the playerbase – mostly because of the cheaters who could exploit high ping – Funcom made it so that even the “direct connect” option checked the ping.
What this means in practical terms is that even if the in-game server browser says your ping is (say) 25, the game will still check the ping when you actually try to connect and, if you happen to have shіtty luck and it comes back with a ping of 250, the game will complain and won’t let you connect.
Not even BUGLE can get around that. BUGLE can help you refresh the ping faster, but that has no effect on the game itself. If your connection latency fluctuates frequently, you’ll still be stuck with the frustrating logon routine.
Personally, I think that Funcom’s decision was short-sighted. It’s a band-aid change that doesn’t really help protect the servers from the cheaters and only makes it harder on the honest players. But hey, what’s done is done and we get to live with the bad decisions, as usual.
