Died and losing levels, and then Losing Tens of Hours of Progress

I played single player offline ps5 version playing on exiled land maps, with standard difficulty.

made my base (35 x 32 square base), all stonebrick foundation (the one that needs LOTS of bricks, and shaped wood and iron reinforcements).
I didnt use builder mode (dont even know how to use it on ps5, I only know it exists from googling). So I made it one by one, by gathering the stones, woods, and irons, all bases covered, all surrounded by 2 walls high, and there another square of 2 walls high inside, and covered with ceilings about 70% done.
I have made almost all that I could make with my lvl 54 character (greater wheel of pain, reinforced animal pens, improved blacksmith, improved tannery, etc), made half progress with sorcery too. and I have got like 5 animals, lots of thralls, with like 5 named thralls plus 2 more named thralls on convert progressing.
Not to mention I have full heavy equipments on myself, sandstorm mask, etc

I said all this so u know that I have invested tens of hours to made it all. I played that long without ever quitting the game for weeks. Just rest the ps5, and when I wake it up again, I could just continue the game. My conan gametime was recorded 87 hours. And the bugs made me losing at least like 45-65 hours of progress :frowning:

So there are 2 main bugs in these :

  1. At last, my base was almost finished (just some 30% of ceilings to be done), so I decided to explore the world while leveling my thralls. Got to the khitan bases that asked for sorcerer kidnapping. So I unexpectedly meet enemies near there and as I was still surprised, I was beaten by a group of thralls and died.
Ok, usually when I died, all my equipments would fall there. So to my surprise, I resurrected at my base with full equipments. But then I realize that my steel truncheon got convered back to iron truncheon and my (forgot what the whip with thick leather) whip got converted back to rawhide whip. My (forgot the name but better shield than medium) got convert to (again forgot the name but a medium shield). I didnt check anything else on my equipments, because I soon realize, it was all because my level dropped from 54 to 49, and that made my learned knowledge got unlearned, which explained why my steel truncheon got converted back to iron truncheon, as the knowledge to make steel truncheon was one of the last knowledge that I learned. Other than that, some of my journey got reverted back too.
Oh well, this is annoying but I could live with it. So I played like another 2 hours to go back and taking revenge to the tribe that killed me, and I got another 2 named thralls that I dragged back and in progress to convert.
After that 2 hours, I thought to myself, to make sure this is really saved, lets just quit to main menu after this long time.
Andddd this decision turns out to be a disaster. Lets move on to the 2nd problem

  2. Quitting to main menu was hanged on “disconnecting”. Waiting for 3 minutes still not yet done. So I rested the ps5 like usual. After about half an hour, I have another free time, so I turn the ps5 on again, and it still there, still “disconnecting”. Oh well, waiting a few mins didnt help either. So I decided to close the game, and open it again. Pick single player offline again and continue the game.
To my surprise, my char load not on my base, but on the desert on the west. Well, my level still 49 , all my equipments from before quitting still there. Problem is, which I soon realize, all my named thralls but 2 were gone. I dont really remember the non named thralls so I ignore the others.
So, with heartwrenching guts, I ran back to my base, only to find it reverted back to almost barren. It’s like only 10% built where I only put the fence to make a sign of my base size. The land was still barren with only a few (maybe about 5% of it got covered by my stonebrick foundation). That’s all.

My 1st thought was that, my game all this long was not saved because I always use rest on my ps5. But it doesnt add up. When I just starting to make the base there (I was changing base like 3 times), my level were maybe only like 20 or 30. But my level now is still 49 (like after I died, and before I quit). I only got to level 49 wayyyyy later when my base were like 80% built. And I still got all my equipments (again, when I just make the base, I couldnt make my perfected axe, which still with me), and when I just starting to make the base, I dont have my crocodile (which still with me from the follower tab).
So the game resetted some of my thralls, and my base, but not my equipments, and some of my pets.

I really dont know why is it like that. This is a single player offline game, so no server needed, no admin, nothing should affect it but me, and I dont even know how to use admin or creative mode on ps5. But it happened. I lose heart seeing this, and I think this is the time to quit conan exiles. It was a fun game while it lasted. But this bugs just killed it for me.

It sounds like you’ve encountered frustrating bugs in Conan Exiles, including equipment reverting, losing thralls, and your base resetting, despite hours of effort. These issues can be disheartening, especially in single-player offline mode. Hopefully, future updates will address these bugs and improve your experience.

@fire888 Welcome to the Forum. Personally I don’t play offline line my understanding is that those that do save their game to the cloud or USB on a regular basis. I realize it’s frustrating to loose your build many of us on the Forum have thousands of hours and lost plenty. Hang in there Exile.

My fellow exile, make me a favor please.
You said that your sorcery progress was the half…

Do you still have this knowledge or you lost it completely?

thx guys, but I have not a lot of time to play. So losing tens of hours is very frustrating. And I’m pretty sure I’d not recover in a short time. I might want to play it again next year or the next. Hope I’ll find the heart to try it again later.

I never ever encounter bugs like this in all the other games that I played. And I have played console games since my childhood till I have children now lol.
And with my subscription to ps5, it would always automatically upload the save to the cloud periodically. But now, like I said, this seems to be a bug not reverting to the old saves. Like I said, my level did not go back to what it was, so it’s a proof that it actually saving, but somehow, it messed with old save.

hmm regrettedly, I didnt check the sorcery knowledge. As I was really dissapointed, I just deleted it right away from the ps5, not even trying to upload the save file to the cloud first.
I hoped it would automatically save to the cloud before it was deleted, so I could give u an answer. I’d need to try reinstalling the game again first. I’ll info u later when I have done this

If i can make it on time before you delete, can you use the spells you already learn? The reason i am asking is this…

thx for the link. nice to know u playing on ps5 too. and good to know (not nice though) that these bugs are widespread on ps5 too.
anyway, I have tried it and I could do sorcery that I have learned

Was tempted to rebuild my base, but seeing that these bugs are widespread, better not. Maybe I’ll revisit again next year. Hopefully they’d have stabilized the game at that time.

Well since you are on single player you could go into admin and create the materials you need so you don’t have to chase them down your self or adjust materials gathering and leveling up in your game after all this is for Fun. Don’t recommend setting your level in admin because sometimes that causes issues. @fire888

I have been dealing with this problem as well on both maps. I will spend hours doing things, building things. Then if I should go into my settings to change something or if I should take off some clothing on my thralls it crashes to my Xbox home or the game home. When I go back in by clicking continue, I load in at the beginning as if none of that had happened. It’s almost as if the game is not saving the game progress, or it is erasing it.

is there admin on ps5 version ? or even creative mode in it ?
arent those only for steam version ?

I could take losing a few minutes of progress, or even 1-2 hours. But not tens of hours like this. I even endured the boring grinding of collecting stones, irons, and trees just to make my base complete. And now to have redo them all over again is just a no no

@fire888 Yes you have access to admin on PS5 I use it on my private server’s Ps4 has access also. Go to server settings scroll down to make me admin you can use a password if you want. Come out of there using the oblong button on right side of controller will give you access to creative mode :wink:along with administration there is tons of stuff in there including access to Thralls and pets a bit of a learning curve. Let me know if you need more info or pictures. Good luck Exile

Don’t want to be sarcastic, but that isn’t much of a loss - I mean stuff lost by OP - also while it may seem like a huge rollback, I think that nothing helped me to better understand/learn this game, than loosing all to pvp enemies. So my advice it so take this situation as a boost to do it all over again, but better.

ps. of course bug is still a bug, loosing stuff because of server issues is @#%#%

Agreed. Can’t even guess what all I’ve lost in all these years day one player.

I’ll try it later. thx so much.

it might not seems alot to u, but it’s weeks of my time. While I enjoyed trying new things in game and seeing my base expanded, gathering stones, woods and irons by myself is not. Like gathering 2000 stones, 2000 woods, and 2000 irons, crafting them into bricks, shaped woods and iron reinforcements seems a lot. But then when I built the base, it’s actually only amount so tiny (maybe like 50 base foundations ? which is nothing because my base was 35x32).
And like I said, I only play like 2-5 hours a day, or more details it was like 1-2 hours on weekdays and 3-5 hours on weekends. So, it was consider a good job to gathering 2000 irons/woods/stones in 1 session. Usually I could only gather like 2000 irons or 2000 woods and stones in 1 session, and then use the next session to wait crafting them, while building the foundations/walls bit by bit, and next session for gathering again, and so on.

I might made the base too big for a solo player like myself, but it’s just what I pictured in my mind, that would be able to house all the necessary factory/buildings, and a bit more.

while gathering the irons/woods/stones might seems fun the 1st time, or the 5th times, it soon becomes too repetitive after the 10th times and so on. I felt just want to proceed with the game other than going to the same place again and again to gather the materials. That’s also why it was so frustrating because my base was just almost finished that I told myself, hey, finally I could go exploring and have fun with the rest of the game, then after a while, boom, all reverted back to almost nothing.

sure now I should be much faster, as I just know after about 70% of the base, that improve furnace/blacksmith/etc would convert the irons/woods/stones much efficient. But it’s still back to a boring gathering again. I have fed up with it actualy lol

Oh well, it might seems like just nonsense for u, as u might have waste much more time in this game than me, but it’s just how I felt. We’ll see if I could gather up the will to continue this.

Thx for the help and comments guys

I will be on tomorrow night will PM you some screen shots. By the way have you tried playing online

I don’t want to mess with you, nor to be rude, so let my just say, that gathering for example 2000 stone is less then 1 minute job if you know what you are doing. So again, while I pity your situation regarding bug, I strongly advise to learn on that experience - find better/quicker ways to gather resources, gear up properly, plan your moves, build smart (not high or wide) and so on. You will never become a good/experienced player, if all you do is watching on your first and only, 50x50 sandstone cube base.

Just want to say I have willingly given up thousands of hours of build time. I recently let the base I set up on live decay away that I have been in since 3.0 dropped. I’ve got 8.5K hours over all and took a couple years off to play BRs.

This really isn’t a short term game. And I’d recommend finding a public or private server to play on because it seems there is issues with single player saves. I read the posts often enough.
