Digging The New Horse Rethink! GJ!

I saw some guy post a video of horses in 3.0 acting all sporadic and messed up and thought to myself: What the hell is wrong with your machine dude? It’s a dial-up on you smart-phone or something? So not having tried it yet, I jumped on a fresh level 0 horse and took her for a spin:

Select 1080p so you can see - if needed.

I like them a lot better.

  • More air control!
  • Wider attack angles!
  • Much improved Health mechanics!
  • Much improved Stamina mechanics!
  • More responsive overall.
  • Better gate acceleration (0 to 60)
  • Faster leveling?

It felt less like I was on the back of an animal that might slowly bleed to death if I sat there in combat too long and more like I was with an animal who was reacting and affected by each skirmish I engaged in - quick to damage, quick to heal, ready for the next. Me likes! Nice overhaul!

I started recording 3 minutes after mounting and I killed like 6 dog, 3 gators, as a few hyena yet I already reached my first perk by the 15min mark. That’s faster no? 1st perk in 18min, seems faster to me anyway - Unsure.

Now if I can just get the horse to tea-bag the defeated enemies it’ll be perfect!

what do you mean exactly with health mechanics? what you found to be different?
because all i am seeing is that you have only 900 HP, so your horse will be probably dead in 2 hits of other players, i don’t know if the armor is different or if they regen more with food tho.
is this the case?.

WTF… why on earth don’t you actually try it?!? Everything with you is glass-half-empty and observational guesses that turn out to be wrong more then not. DL it and try it - then you will know. Looking at a number, taking the Kasandra position, and then acting like a Karen isn’t useful.

I explained what I meant by “health mechanics” in the very next paragraph. What I found different is listed right there in bullet pointed text. :stuck_out_tongue:

lol dude chill out…
i was just curious in that particular note.

alright, i will try it myself see you in a while!

alright, for pve does it feel a little better because the player is the one who makes more damage.
it does feel more smooth and easy specially in early, i tested with iron weapons and light saddle, kinda squishy but nice damage.

But this? for pvp? Your horse will be dead in 2 hits, as i suspected. how can a horse only last 2 combos of a player? lvl 20 and with aquilonian saddle.
i am fine with the new horse pvp, but the HP? not so much.

and i only tested with 1 player with no follower. i cannot imagine how it would be in a mass battle.
is not worth it to have a lvl 20 horse that is not exactly fast leveler die in seconds.

The nerf to the lance is okay but they don’t really have that much HP when players increased considerably their damage.

allow me to ilustrate my point:

all horses were lvl 20, with azura glory i even put other saddles, there was one that had almost 3k of HP… and still was at the brink of death in a matter of seconds.

and i think they were getting reduced damage because they were my own horses, imagine enemy horses.

So yeah, not a fan of it. the funny think is that wasn’t even the strongest armor and weapons. just what i think is going to be EL meta. when abyssal armor gets nerfed. IF gets nerfed.

Your video shows it to be more like 12 to 15 hits. Seems perfectly fine to me! Don’t stand there and get hit by mega heavy attacks repeatedly. If you want an actual tank go play Battlefield… oh, wait - those dies in 2 to 4 hits. I mean go play World of Tanks… oh, wait those die and you lose in as little as one hit. Umm, guess you’re out of luck bro! You’re riding facsimilia of living creatures - they die!

My suggestion for your mindset and playstyle would be to put on heavy armor and go hide under a rock somewhere out of sight…

not sure why you are innecesarily aggressive towards me i don’t remember insulting you or disrespecting you in any way.

i can see there is no productive conversation here, good day.

So it looks like everyone who kept complaining about mounted combat finally got the counter for it. I wonder what a real fight would look like, between a mounted player and a player on foot, as opposed to repeatedly hitting horses that just stand there and take it.

Very likely the same as it is now if the rider is skilled. If gang warfare where the stam might decrease far enough they will be dismounted (as I was in the video) and have to hot-bar in a weapon and fight on foot - if they can’t get back on the horse fast enough.

Damage seems to decrease the stam too so this is indeed what PvPers were asking for. I love the system myself. So far anyway… Looks like it will better for PvP too but I’m sure there will always be those unsatisfied no matter what.

while i don’t have another person to test i have been in many mass horse pvp fights, i know that you will have plenty of opportunities to hit the horse like that.

like i said, i don’t disagree that some changes were for the better, i am simply saying that i dislike that your horse will die in 5 seconds not only from the players but also the new upcoming saber and zombie meta. nothing more.

Yep, but while you focus on your opponent’s horse, your opponent can focus on killing you. And if their horse was one of the temporary, summoned mounts, that makes it even worse for you: all that effort of unhorsing them, and you haven’t even deprived them of something valuable.

Of course, I might be completely wrong. That’s why I was wondering what an actual fight would look like, rather than your test or my speculation

well, yes! it can be either way.
why i am worried? because i am used to prolonged fights in big fights vs big clans so having a horse that can resist a little the intense battle would be nice.
i actually really like the lance change.

i can totally adapt to having horses be less relevant but that i would like see a little hp buff ? yes. but thats my personal opinion.
and tbh we weren’t using the horse that much lately is not as good as once was, we were fighting mostly on foot lately.
but that i miss those glorious horses pvp we had in the past? hell yeah i do.

why you are so at the defensive man xD its called having a different opinion i am sorry if i can’t say that i love everything about CE mindlesly without thinking in the scenarios that is going to create a new patch and most likely i am going to participate.

i already said that i like most changes minus the hp of the horses nothing more, what more do you want from me xD that i say “oh yes everything is perfect i agree, huraay” xD

STILL CE is my favorite game by far. so of course i am going to be invested in changes that directly affect my gameplay.
if you cannot stand people with different opinions what are you doing in a public forum?

like ,seriously xD.

Different opinion? The thread is about what horses are like in PvE not your fantasy about what they might be like in PvP. The subtext is that the design changes are good and someone at FC is doing a good job - not how many heavy attack hits some guy with a sword can deliver to his still-standing mount before it dies. FFS man…

…for me to poop on!

I suppose I could be mistaken - don’t think so tho. Maybe it’s the heal follower perk that’s making the difference. But several times I saw my horse’s health decrease significantly and then jump back up to full health about the time the battle music ended - or between 3 and 10 seconds later. The dynamic of taking and healing from damage specific to a particular battle is new - to me at least - pretty sure that wasn’t in 2.8.

I like that you can get your horse killed within seconds if you do that mistake to engage combat without using your brain first.

Horses are still strong. But now you atleast get punished if you get knocked from it. You cant just charge into a fight and get 2-3 kills and get out of there like nothing. Now you get easier knocked. And also get your mount killed easier. Wich is really good.

I tried a purge on horseback. Two horses used, both level 10. I tried to get stun-locked to see what the outcome would be - how much damage the horse or I would take. Check it out:

Be sure to set the rez to 1080p so you can see what’s going on…

(Once we get follower reviving) seems fair to me. If you’re stupid you’ll pay the price. If you play smart you wont, given you don’t get really unlucky.

I beleive most of the balance issues in Conan revolve around 2 camps those that want a better game loop around reason to farm/train followers/build nd those that dont want to lose anything ever. Unfortunately the game leaned to rarely losing anyyhing on pve, it grew the latter group faster. Now that the devs are instituting some risk of more loss , thsose players will not like it. Those that want a reason to log in and farm other than to put more stuff in chests will like it.

I think you are right. I understand the frustration that some folks can have when an element of gameplay that they got used to changes but personally I think having horses and thralls be a bit more squishy makes things more interesting (for example will need to have some extra horses around).

As I noted yesterday, I have a hard time even wanting to play live servers anymore because I find them boring compared to what is coming. For example (again) recently I quite literally rode around in circles with my horse while my level 20 beserker wiped every boss in U City. Boring… Having said thrall and horse be at risk of dying will add some excitement.

My 2 cents
