Well. this is a less discussed topic, but i think everybody has some doubts about it.
Will the horse speed remain the same?
(I saw that character speed is going to be changed, what about the horses? Actually they are too fast).
Will horse saddles be balanced between them?
We have only one kind of saddle that is useful, they should have pros/cons, will it change/be improved?
Will lance damage be balanced to prevent ‘one hit kill’ mechanics? (We can still do this).
It will be easier to drop someone from the horse? It should be easier to drop someone when using a spear , 2handed sword or something like this.
In compensation, the mounted player damage would be higher (but without bleeding as it was in the past).
Judging by current trends, soon it will be slower to ride a horse than to walk, and the outgoing damage will be reduced by 99% . But there is nothing to worry about, no one will fight with speedhackers.
i personally liked when horses were more useful with spear mounted combat.
and because the meta armor was heavy you weren’t getting one shotted by a lance like today.
To me, the horse was balanced because you can only fight on open field.
you cannot use horses to raid a base unless you want to be exterminated by an army of thralls or angry players with a hammer.
the horse fights were glorious.
i don’t really like that a man on foot has a weapon to counter the mounted player on next update.
in strategy games, the cavalry counters most infantry units minus spearmen
when you bring a mounted unit to the battle, usually your mounted unit should win.
but this logic applied here is as simple as pulling a spear with not much cost other than carrying it in your inventory.
from what it seems in 3.0 you will only use horses to travel. is almost useless for combat, huge risk for small reward, not worth it and i think changing this is a bad idea.
i believe that making mounted combat, something that can only happen on open field useless will take away fun mechanics that could work with the right balance. but of course the question is what is balanced and what not. i know is not easy to find that middle ground or even if people will even like mounted combat or not, i certainly love it.
Spear mounted combat was busted and broken. Free 4th hit on horse was the same as when people used an exploit in 2019 to do 4th hits on ground all the time.
Heavy armor prevented you from getting oneshot because there was no Siptah gear that amplified lance damage at that time. Also the potion that gives you +20 strength for 10 seconds did not exist or had yet to be discovered at that time.
In other words: “I don’t like game balance and want to be OP with my favourite game mechanic in a game.”
I dunno what nor how much speeds will change but currently:
Horse speeds are PERFECT!
Horse saddles are perfect!
Spear usage from horseback is very nice - maybe a tad sluggish for light attack initialization but DMG, aim, and attack-speed otherwise is right where it should be.
Lance currently does not “ONE HIT” players unless the attacker is unusually buffed and the target has none and/or is using sub-par non-battle gear. Lance is currently balanced PERFECTLY except for that condition.
No compensation is needed in any regard currently. Horse speed up or down, (slightly) should not incur any either.
Hmm well yeah, since the thrall rework and siptah gear and the infamous feroxic weapons pvp on foot is not exactly… balanced.
all siptah gear needs to be nerfed imo.
Not exactly, i said that this game mechanic can still work with the right balance.
but like i said, finding that balance is where we can argue all day long with people in what is balanced and what not.
of course. i just think that a mounted player should still win on open field. its their terrain.
the player on foot, usually raiding or defending a position is not going to face a mounted player because the horse can’t move freely there, and no movement=easy target.
there is a reason why the scouts saddles are the ones used and not the heavy ones.
from what i have seen, mounted combat is going to be basically useless and is sad to see.
but hey, thats just me.

By that logic anyone with horse should win, if you meet unhorsed person he should instantly die and leave loot for you… I think they should have both chances to win, let’s not make horses something that’s must have to participate in pvp - by things You say that would make it like that.
That’s not true, scout saddle makes horse fast, can turn really fast, and even right now you can just stand and face trade with player without horse and you gonna still win.
I do - and I swear I AM somebody! I get off and change saddles depending what I’m intending to do and it’s to great affect!
I thought the double hits were horse-hit plus lance-hit. That’s what was determined when we looked at it last anyway. Some people thought it was a double lance hit but they were wrong by looking at the video. And even so it’s still just about impossible to one-hit a battle ready player!!!

That’s fine i guess but that one is exception proves the law - in my experience there’s no one using it unless playing RP or have lack of knowledge.
And even so it’s still just about impossible to one-hit a battle ready player!!!
No, its very doable - done multiple times, did got killed that way multiple times and even if bug won’t one shot You then still You do a lot of damage anyway.
In my experience it’s just the opposite. It’s the people with a lack of knowledge who don’t use multiple saddles and mostly keep them in their horse’s inventory. It has little or nothing to do with RP vs PvP.
Of course you do, You’re on a horse and they’re on foot. Perfect sim!
I can tell you with first hand experience you don’t need all that to one shot someone on exiled land. Since the meta is still light (400-500 armor value) with a good horse 5 strength and good hit ya that can one shot.
In my experience it’s just the opposite. It’s the people with a lack of knowledge who don’t use multiple saddles and mostly keep them in their horse’s inventory. It has little or nothing to do with RP vs PvP.
I guess its my word against your word - are You living in sim too?
Of course you do, You’re on a horse and they’re on foot. Perfect sim!
Game is not simulation, its GAME which should be fun, somewhat balanced. I always cringe when someone says: “in real life” or “it’s realistic that way” - sure in real life i can see You knocking out thralls, jump of cliffs, respawn after death. - That argument is just pointless.
Remember, the lance oneshotting you is a bug. Its not intended that you need heavy armor to survive a lance hit.
So rather than nerfing it they’ll just fix a bug which existed for way too long. While you hit visually 1 time with the lance the game registers up to 10 hits from that 1 single hit you did. Thats why its so unpreditable when or if you’ll oneshot someone because you dont know if the game feels generous and gives you 8 times the damage you should have done.
Well, if you like fighting from horseback the Maneuverability saddle makes all the difference in the world. The Defense saddle makes a very noticeable difference if you’re fighting in large camps or open hordes - think The Towerwatch Keep, New Luxur, The Ashen Core, New Asagarth or you’re in a large PvP conflict. And the Speed saddle is awesome on Siptah where there is no maproom teleportation - I can feel the wind in my face!!!
Sure, if someone hasn’t tried it much nor paid attention to the differences then they might not be aware but it’s significant enough to be beneficial on all counts. Heck, even my Rhino has and uses all three:
