Discussion: A Balancing Act

Erm… I do not really want to create new thread since I don’t really participate in beta, have no time nor big wish or drive space. But. Can we talk about ultimate a bit? With its grossly big recharge time it’s that one ultimate neurosis point for “nooo I will save it for later, I’ll sure will need it more later” just to never use it at all. And now it will do more damage but same recharge time? Kind of more useful but even more urge to save for time when I actually need it? I’m not big fan of idea to save it for bigger bosses, I want to use it more, in all places. It’s so beautiful, why do you want us to use it only on super special occasions? Also, on recharge - can we address channeling vs single hit abilities in that matter too?

That’s honestly the whole point of an ultimate though right… It wouldn’t be that special if you could use it all the time… But there’s condensed anima signet for cd reduction so that should help. Also I’m not even sure what you mean by recharge time on channeling vs single hit abilities. Recharge time is clearly labeled. An example perhaps?

There’s big difference between “all the time”, “every few bosses” and “every dozen of bosses”. I ask for second one. Also thank you but no I do not want condensed anima signet to make it tiny bit faster and use every 10 bosses when I can use nemain right now.
You mixed up “time” and “progress”, we do have progress labeled but with time you get plus % for every ability use and it’s the same for channeling and one-hit while in seconds it’s 1 vs 2.5. Unless I missed something big.

Haven’t joined Beta? Don’t worry. You’re not missing much.

Of course this just boils down to opinion but I think the CD is in a very good place as it is. Given that it can only be applied to a target once per ten minutes and the fact that their are 5 players in a dungeon or almost one use per boss decreasing the cooldown will be either A.) Useless or B.) Unbalanced (yes 3-5 players with wings up to often in the current OD will be stupidly broken). Wings are very powerful now and as such are saved or used very situationally as they should be. I am 100% positive that will not change. Also there normally up every second dungeon even without condensed anima so really it doesn’t seem too rare as it is.

Also sorry I misread your concern regarding instants vs channel as it relates to charging wings. I agree this should be fixed as channel abilities take ~3x longer then instant abilities to charge wings in their current state.

Opinion, yes, hence I wanted to hear other people on that. In my eyes it’s big waste to make ult too op and restricting it to rarer use. I’m not big fan of 10 min cd either though at least with 400k damage it will make some sense now.
I get that we have not that many places where it’s useful in game, and that, I guess, with story it’s not that wise to show off it everywhere. But. It doesn’t feel right like it is now either.

Im personally fine with it being a big hit, rare ability. It feels good to save a wipe with it, or to deal with too large amounts of mobs. Makes it a more tactical ability to use, which i prefere over making it a No concern to cast, cuz it will be back soon again.

You would have gotten more love, had you invested those development resources in a continuation of the story arc instead in some not really requested “rebalancing”, which requires a lot of new grinding, made harder by self-healing nerfs.

A take-home-message from all the other games who tried this:
I NEVER works to try to force customers to play the game like you think they should - making healers attractive to play ist good, ENFORCHING them in a party only causes harm.
Offering new stuff to grind for is okay, …but requiring it results in people leaving.

I’ld be exited too, if they added content and continued the story line.
But to announce I’ld have to re-grind a large part of my equip, with reduced self heal, …I’m more perturbed.

Well, up to DA (at more than 50% your level) it’s quite possible…

Sorry, did you reply to the wrong person?

Dude, if you bothered actual testing you would know that Bossdamage is considerable lower. Like sure you have less selfheal but also incoming damage is considerably less.
Also:

Cruel Delight was exactly in the spot of being required. Technically you could play without it but you threw yourself in a world of pain. As for the rest the game let you get away with some pretty ramshackle gear way past “optimal”. One doesn’T need the Arsenal stuff to be effective or egons or razor and still do good. Most people won’T notice the difference compare to playing well and playing crappy.

So there’s a real risk, that a lot more customers are put off by the need to re-grind than are enticed to participate (and buy) more in the game.

Absolutely NOT.
A lot of us play for the STORY and are content wich any game mechanics which are ‘good enough’.
Mechancis are not the core of gameplay, not in P&P and not in MMO.
If I’m bored with the plot and the NPCs and the missions, than I don’t care if I’m a bored tank or a bored healer.

And in lieu of any PVP balancing is a moot point, and with the option to select the difficulty of the dungeon, scaling is likewise not required.

Well, you pretty much nailed their reasoning for this change instead of adding content.

I think the key point here is

There is so much content that I can look at with fresh eyes if the tactics required to approach it change. Emphasis I. Having played with the changes this week and last beta weekend, I think there is more additional interest for me than before. I think I’m not alone in that feeling, though.

I can see from your multiplicity of responses however that I suspect you do not share that optimism.

Well in all these forums, discord and other sources of communication right now your opinion is a minority. Based on the estatic random replying to people and frequent barrage of posts I’d say you probably need to lay of the coffee or whatever your drug of choice is ATM.

Take some time to catch up on the game perhaps since it sounds like you’ve been out of the loop for a very long time. Maybe take a nap, sleep is good. Or a long hot bath and come back with a clear mind.

Or I can just simple say the balance is happening. The majority of people are super excited about this. More content is meaningless without it and have a nice day!

Whenever I read this argument in any game, I’ld just love to see their code…
…there just so few ways “no dungeon” can be superior to “a dungeon for a limited power bracket” or “a way to easy/hard dungeon”

Because you have to get a healer in the first place, hope the one
you get is competent, and then coordinate with him or her.
Other games tried it, increasing the waiting time in the queue for every additional constraint they imposed on the party members.

I like every content in this game.
In fact, the point which drove me out from NWO was shutting down the foundry and killing 90% of the content.
Even it a lot of it was bad, bad to chose from it’s still way better than nothing at all.
Similar: the reason Furcadia always had a special place in my MMO experience is the player produced content; crappy system, but loads of independent ideas and from outside the company.

But I suppose that’s the question of personal preference.

So you agree that the purposed changes impose more restrictions to gameplay?

And about all other games doing something similar!

So we have reasons to be sceptical.
