Do away with dyes

Now that a full hue/saturation/value system has been implemented for clan banners:

I think this opens up the opportunity to greatly simplify the current dyeing system for items.

Do away with the thousand individual dyes, and just use the Dye Pack item as the generic all-colors dye:


Dye packs could be crafted with a few different color items, and perhaps multiple would be made per crafting due to the higher item cost.

Then a Dye Pack would be used on a dye slot instead of an individual dye and bring up the hue/saturation/value color picker sliders.

Additionally, since Cochineal really only has one purpose; making red dye, it could be replaced as the cactus harvestable with edible prickly pear fruit instead. :yum:

Instead, how about we use dye colors to replace the sliders in the clan banners. I can find a dye that approximates what I envision for armor. Setting up a clan banner just ends up with various pastel shades instead of brighter colors.

That would be a problem with how the game applies the color to the clan banner, not with the color picker. If you used a dye for a clan banner, you would get the same faded color. The only thing the current dyes do is select a specific hue/saturation/value for you.

I like the dyes, and see no reason to get rid of them personally.

I would rather appreciate it if they could better match colors on different materials , plus the ability to dye all clothes completely - for some, significant parts are simply undyeable

Agreed some of my favorite armor doesn’t accept dye color properly for instance the Bachrainen hat sure that is spelled wrong :thinking:

If you use a piece that you can dye, you can illusion the armor over it and the undyeable portion will be colored. I do it on the Thief armor.

No. Dye the item you want for the stats. The color carries over to the item you want to see. This is the only way to die the undyeable portions.

Why do this when they can make another bathe of dyes and sell them via bazaar?

I do it in a 3 step process. Armor 1 desired stats, armor 2 max dye channels and armor 3 desired look.

Took some fiddling to get it right but was able to dye almost every piece on most armors with few exceptions.

This one is here for the prickly pears.
Dyes are ok and all, when they work, as already noted.
The banner system is much more nuanced, but could it be applied given how armour/clothes have areas that are not stable and others that are only partially dyable, or only dyable on specific gendered versions?
This one agrees the customization could use some updating and that would be appreciated.

But back to the prickly pears.
This would be a nice addition for both food and beverages. Improving the variety in the Exiled diet, gardening options, and possibly being a component for a hilarious weapon.
This one is very fond of prickly pear juice, iced with honey…
And look, Conan Exiles has a fluid press and ice and honey.

Why remove immersion from the game? More immersion (e.g. physical dyes) is better than less.

On top of that add dye previews for armor pieces (the little info box below the inventory, so you dont have to equip looted armor all the time to see the color) and the ability to create dye templates or to mass dye armors.

Dying 90 armor sets every wipe is tedious work, lol.

Thanks for the tip , I was always quite annoyed by the padded part on the Poitain light armour , the body and trousers are each a different colour and can’t be coloured…maybe this will help.
Of course it’s worse with armour that can’t be dyed at all - like champion - stats nice but I don’t like the style , so I always redo it on poitain heavy armour , it doesn’t need to be dyed , it’s nice anyway.
