When I personally say “nerf X” I expect Funcom to look at it, observe the PvP and watch and learn how it is done, reproduce and adjust the outliers.
A Hardened Steel bow is not OP. I have posted so many videos and examples with enough data for Funcom to look into, but they did not care. Because:
There is a general problem in gaming that does not only count for Conan.
The problem is skill difference:
A low skill player might think a weapon is bad where a high skill player says it is extremely strong. This is what is happening here with the bow. Trust me, the bow in the hands of a nerd who only plays bow and knows the weapon in and out is extremly powerful. In the hands of an average player it is not that great.
It is. But not only this.
A pvp player is “pressed” to learn everything quik and make wise choices in battle. The people you outplay on your videos and occasionally kill you too are really good but they lost because of poor choice, or whatever else, that’s the game.
In pve however you can spend your whole gameplay life in one build, with one weapon and dominate, so it’s very difficult for some people to understand why you complain. And i don’t mean you Riddick, you need nothing, you’re here to stand for others not you. @Oduda is right to the point that most of the spear complaints came from the pvp community, so the nerf do not serve pve reasons!
In pve spear is fantastic, but other 2h weapons are way more efficient, so unless it’s your role play or your main weapon like @Kapoteeni for example, you’ll probably never use spear in pve.
I mainly stop involving in pvp discussions, because i am out of pvp many years now. I do respect pvp feedback, but for gods sake, stop provoking the pve community by saying that pvp is ruined because of pvp.
This only leads to absolute nothing and false feedback with why’s, cries and meaningless flagging!
That’s all, before i step out, love ya all.
Im pretty sure they will. Atleast at some point. Like they always did.
You talk about rolling thirst? That’s not the only reason bow is so strong. One of them yes.
Target lock is not the reason bow is OP either. It kinda sucks for the bow since you aim strait on the target with target lock.
Im not attemptning to destroy a weapon that is already destroyed. I want them to fix it. But I doubt they can. Since they are incompetent. I want them to balance the game the right way for once
Yes I know that. Also thats why im not playing anymore. But still for some reason hope they will actually fix stuff
Most weapon types have their uses in PvE. I’m not really sure if the spear is my “main” weapon anymore these days - I’ve finally learned to love the katana - but spears are still the best weapon against certain enemy types: dogs, cats and crocodiles (normal-sized ones, that is), for example.
My Siptah base is very close to some rhino spawns, and my new favorite pastime is aggroing a rhino, charging the katana special attack, and waiting for the rhino to start its rush attack before launching my own. With an upgraded Musashi’s Black Blade and Agility 50, it’s a one-shot kill and you take no damage. It’s like KITT vs. KARR, only with less lasers and explosions.
Yeah I gotta say that the weapons are not the issue but the 3.0+ attribute system that is killing PVP. The whole point of making the player character a hero level toon left way too much for PVP to exploit and that is the issue here between PVE and PVP.
The spear was the hard meta weapon in AoW because Funcom’s changes to hyper armor meant that literally nothing could hyper through its poke to out-trade it. Changes to stamina also meant that roll-poke had absolutely no downside as you can no longer run out of stamina. Burst damage made it so that sitting in a combo is a death sentence, thus further rewarding roll-poke gameplay.
With all these factors, yes, spear is cancer. Bow is also cancer for very similar reasons. Now that it’s been nerfed, daggers and the 2h axe will be cancer.
The problem isn’t a particular class of weapon, it’s that Funcom’s terrible PvP changes have created a system where weapon viability boils down solely to:
That’s what’s so nuts about this all. We had a solid system of weapon counters that Funcom opted to mess up. Spears were not unbeatable by any means, especially before momentum was removed with AoS. Honestly, that was Funcom’s only bad call regarding that meta.
You could punish spear spam with a 1h sword or 1h axe pretty easily before spear users could just turn heel and run after every attack. Even when momentum was removed it was easy to roll-catch a spear user with a 1h sword lunge, dagger poke, or spear poke. Roll-poking was also less viable before we had infinite stamina in Age of War.
Now brainless gameplay is rewarded and the solution that Funcom keeps trying to apply is to remove more and more elements of skill expression until we’re practically engaging in tab combat. No weapon nerfs will alleviate the fundamental issues introduced by AoW.
Bows aren’t OP in an environment where recovery is strong. Spears aren’t OP in an environment where stamina is limited and disengagement requires movement skill.
People are upset about weapons changes (and there’s fair arguments to be made) but lets not forget skybases have been a thing since 2019 and Funcom still hasn’t patched them out (or at least given us a npc to pay to reveal player locations on the map until skybases are fixed) They’re an even bigger problem to the pvp community outside of PC. I think there’s bigger problems than unpopular nerfs
What I am about to say comes from a guy with no opinion on the subject of this thread, and no vested interests one way or another. But with genuine politeness and courtesy @SirDaveWolf, and coming from a console player: go and play using Bows on a friends Playstation or Xbox, then let me know how horrendous their aiming is compared to PC. It is really bad.
For a job well done and a bonus undertaking, then also go and see how viable their use is in PvE mode on consoles against more than one mob at a time.
Yeah 100% bro
It’s not like the sweaty faced ginger dev outright said it looked more appealing to make spear slower and “feel” heavier when you use a heavy attack… nah ur right he 100% had the intentions of switching up the meta in pvp.
Yes, that is why their strength or OP-ness is not so apparent, because players are, simply put, garbage with the bow on consoles.
I totally understand that.
I used to play a lot of Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West (great games btw) with controller on my Playstations. It was atrocious in the beginning but the game has a time slow down mechanic which you could improve that made bow actually bearable to use. Still not as good and strong as it is on HZD on PC obviously.
Are we still talking about those 9 frames (300 ms) added to the first heavy attack?.. or did they make other changes to the spear that weren’t disclosed?
The pvp atm is just braindead greataxe spam. This with the exception of bow which is now completely broken and no one can catch them if in the hands of a decent player.
Is this pvp more accessible to new players? I guess anyone can grab a greataxe and spam sprint attacks. Is it fun? Is it engaging? Does it take any skill?
Oh btw, just so all the PvP players here can think a bit towards the future and reevaluate their plans…
Don’t think this constant rolling will last forever In fact there is already a solution for it in the code, it’s fully complete, just not enabled yet for this patch - might come in the next… might come in the next chapter
Bottom line, here’s how it works:
whenever you dodge you receive a hidden stacking negative effect for 2.5 seconds.
this effect reduces your stamina regeneration by 1/3rd of the normal rate per stack…
so this means that if you do 3 rolls in a fairly short amount of time… your stamina will completely stop regenerating for those 2.5 seconds.
Now there’s a chance the timings aren’t final and those I guess can always be tweaked, but still, this might throw a wrench into your roll-poke meta
So maybe you should think about how balance would be with that system active before requesting nerfs and such… you don’t want this to hit you at the same time as some nerf you requested that might not even be needed after this
