Since the update you now need to use bait to catch fish, insects, grubs etc. No issue with that, makes sense.
BUT, stop letting trapped fish and shellfish expire whilst in the trap ! It’s simply not fair, we can’t stand by monitoring our traps all the time and now we not only need to use bait but need to be there to retrieve the caught fish before they expire. They’re still in the water so they shouldn’t die.
So please be fair, and don’t let trapped fish / shellfish expire.
No need for such a comment. i’m making a suggestion to improve the game,
Regardless of how much oil I may or may not currently have. I think a good improvement would be to not let fish expire whilst still in the trap. This is a suggestions forum
I have 2+ chests full of oil on one official server. Personally, I do not need oil … for a long time. I did read the PTS patch notes so made sure I did fish each day until the patch. And gave my clans tons of it as well. It just makes it harder for a new player / starting over.
Like what? Nope fishing is done for now. They even nerfed how much oil you get from fish. By the time you collect grubs or insects wait for trap to catch fish than crush 10 fish for 1 oil it’s just easier to go whack a coal node one time for the same amount of coal, which takes 2 seconds. I’m ok with the majority of the update but I cannot see the reasoning behind this.
They gave a couple of reasons for it. One was that they generally don’t like what passive resource production does to the economy, which sounds somewhat reasonable.
But the one that flabbergasted me was that they wanted to reduce the effect of the fish traps on server performance. Honestly, that one wasn’t really well thought-out. It should have been obvious just how spectacularly it was going to backfire, because most people immediately started building stacks of compost heaps to accompany their huge fish farms. So instead of 20 fish traps, now you would have 20 fish traps and 20 compost heaps
Soon after that change, they followed up with a change that made the ichor+bark recipe available with T3 alchemists (it used to be T4 or purge tier, I don’t remember).
Very fun lol I was aware of the bark +ichor on the alchemist bench I just don’t see it as a viable alternative. Why burn two resources to get one? If I’m going to burn bark up I’ll just make dry wood for fuel as it makes resin which I need as well. Why waste Ichor which they made harder to get when I need that for so many other things. They honestly would have been better to just say fishing traps were a mistake so we’re removing them rather than just make them absurdly cost and time inefficient to the point that they are forcibly redundant. I’ve never been a fan of things being made obsolete in games. Like ALL the base food recipes are only there for RP value now. I remember the struggle to find them when I was fresh. I love the new benches, I’m getting better at the stamina changes, but I hate what they have done here. I’d prefer a much more up front approach rather than the sly back door.
Eh, it all depends on your play style. I’d rather burn bark and ichor to get oil than babysit a bunch of fish traps fed from a bunch of compost traps, making sure the fish don’t decay. Also, if I need N oil, I know that I’ll need exactly N/5 bark and N/5 ichor. When it comes to fish, I don’t know how many grubs I’m going to need. I can guesstimate it, but it’s not deterministic.
100% all day long lol fishing traps for me now are an absolute no go. I had a go this morning and picked them all up and shoved them in the dismantling bench lol. I don’t have the patience to fish in real life, I’m absolutely not going to bother in a game. I have two chests of oil and about 4 of ichor so I’m good for a while. I also forgot you can put seeds in the press for oil so I’ll get past it all lol
Bump. The decay timer on Fish and Shellfish traps is absurdly short now. They already need bait to function, we dont need to double down on this and make them even more unpleasant to use.
