Elephant eats everything you put in its inventory

Server: Testlive EU3

When adding food in the inventory of an elephant, it just disappears.

it seems to me this happen with every pet or thall. if you let them go too hungry for too long, i think they eat stacks and stacks until finally caught up on all missed meals.

I am just gonna post this here as it is in line with this bug.

My skeletons wont eat! I give them their favorite snack (raw ash) and nothing happens. I am at my wits end, worrying myself to death…

This is on PVE-C EU

The safe word for elephants is “magumbo” !

But yeah, can’t trust thralls with food, not surprised to see that goes for pets - including elephants - too.

Sure, nearly all pets do that.
Also camels love human flesh. :smirk:

I learned also not to give them meals to carry, you may get hungry on the road while your pet had a good trip eating your cooked yummy meals.

Activating diet resolve bit that, but make it harder to fit food to all then.

But anyway, i don’t feed thralls and pets out of fights right now. They don’t need food on a daily base, so pulling them some goodies just before a fight is enough. Then i give them some goodies for the boost.

The lesson here…Keep feeding your thralls and pets even though you don’t have to. If their health bar is full, they don’t gobble down whatever you give them.

I just never give them anything edible. Problem solved and no worries of maintenance. So glad food isn’t a requirement anymore.

That’s not it.
We tried it on a new pet and they are a bottomless pit.
We put in more than a 1000 food, still nothing.
Clearly a bug

I wasn’t saying it’s not a bug I just don’t think it’s exclusive to elephants. I pick up all my fish & crabby traps once every few days, cook it all up and throw it in the thrall and pet feeders, everyone stays happy and what else was I going to do with all that extra food anyways.

Load up every pet and thrall with honey.

So easy to produce and gives you 30+ day timers.

Nope, simply don’t give them some food, only when needed, before a fight, entering a dungeon, or a purge incoming.

But some may be surprised first, i think it hapened to us all once.
No reason to feed them if no needed all the time for that.

Yes, this actually, that they don’t hold any food is definitively a bug.

They should eat them one after the other. But if you give them just a few before a fight, they have the boost, like if it was registered anyway.

Discussion here is not how to feed the pets or thralls, but what is a bug and what not.
That they don’t hold all food, and eat stacks is a testlive-bug.

And take a look in fight with honey, they don’t get the boost.

I know they don’t.

But if you completely fill any thrall/Pet with food they won’t eat all of it in one go.

I’ve had plenty of times where I put one stack of food in a thrall/pet and then it’s gone, but if I fill em up, the food stays.

There is a difference between camels, elephants and such and carnivore.
I know camels, and such hold fibres if put enoug.

But make a test, tame a pet, carnivore, hyena, easy to get. When tamed, put it out in the world, give 1 stack, let’s say feral or human meat, easi to get to.
You will agree, that pet shouldn’t be hungry so much while just coming out the taming pen.
Close pet inventory, then open again. No more meat.
But if you make the pet fight, you will see the fist avove its head, boost is working.

Don’t you mean. Undeath?

As we do not see the food-buff except when our thrall is fighting I’ve not been able to discern how exactly the food buff works … is it:
a) thrall/pet is buffed by the food item they have just consumed until the next time-tick causes them to consume the next piece
Or
b) if they have preferred food in inventory even if they haven’t consumed it then they get the buff. (Even if the piece they had consumed before the fight was not one of the buff foods.)

But something to note about letting thralls/pets to starve and then feeding…
If the thrall or pet is not fed then it’s hunger is a 0/100 and it is going to take over 100 pieces of food to fill its meter so it will have food in their inventory which gives them the food buff whilst fighting.
On live servers there is currently speculation that the thralls/pets actually go into the negative if left to starve for an extended period eg it will not stop at 0/100 but go to -20/100 for example and need at least 120 pieces of food to bring to 100/100 before the thrall will not immediately consume the entire stacks of food placed in their inventory.

Last night I went to an outpost (live, official not testlive) and found a Cimmerian berserker at 0/100 on their hunger meter … I put 100 honey into their inventory… the entire stack was consumed and her hunger did not reach 100/100. Unfortunately I can’t remember what it was at.
But also hard to know if this is because Funcom has given weights to different food types so some foods increase the % fed more than others. For all I know honey may only return a fraction of 1 unit hunger so when at 100/100 honey will maintain them at 100/100 due to rounding but if they are less than 100/100 it takes more pieces to return to 100/100 … perhaps a data miner of the dev kit can answer that.

So if you have a thrall pot with 10 thralls in range of it and all are starving with hunger at 0/100 then it’s going to take atleast 1050 pieces of food to get them all to have 5pieces of buff food remaining in their inventory if you are trying to prepare them for a purge for example.

Sorry, a long reply but in short:
If you want to let your thralls/pets starve and only buff them when going into a fight (or purge) be prepared with an easy to harvest trash food to get their status back to 100/100 before giving them the buff food as they will consume stacks instantly until they reach 100/100.

No, this isn’t the case.
We tried to put 1000’s of food into the thrall, it all vanishes immediately.
Definitely a bug

So, let’s try figure out some things.

I see lot posts about thrall, and especially pets hunger.
To test, i started still new games, also had a testlive server since a few weeks.

But my pets don’t have any hunger any more ! See:

on this picture, my sabertooth has a health-bar, but no hunger icon at all like in the past.

My thralls still have, but they show still full.

here Kithis, fully fed and happy.

My settings:

So, no my pets don’t get hungry, or on 0/100 food, they can’t.

May older of the DB matter.
I remember my old (non testlive server) when activated the feeding-system they screemed all. Never since i wiped, and have a new DB.

Takes me all of 5 minutes every other day to fill the pots and feed boxes (There are 7 total, big place) with honey. Keeps the thralls fed, and the animals quiet.

At some point, the food requirement will return. Might as well act like it hasn’t left.
