After logging in and playing, suddenly EVERYONE on the server who is standing on any player built structure falls through to the ground/water below at the exact same time. If you happen to NOT be on any player built structure you never notice except for the chat goes crazy with many complaining they just fell. The falling can be a single time or it can continue for many minutes continuously. If it continues, whenever you try to climb any stairs, foundations, you immediately fall again or get stuck in them. Sometimes you can get out but often you have to remove your bracelet and hope you can summon your corpse or retrieve your body to get your stuff back. Once the falling episode happens it might be a few minutes before it happens again or a few hours. I have asked when this happens if anyone was doing a purge and sometimes yes, but often no one was. They were crafting, building, all the normal things.
This issue is getting worse and worse. Every time I log in it normally happens 1-2 times. Since the last update (Chapter 4) it happens more frequently (but was happening some before). All I know is this issue is causing many on the official server I play to log in less and less. Some I have not seen come back. They try to play and when the issues starts they say something like: “FORGET THIS! I don’t need the stress!” and log out.
If this issue has been officially addressed already, please forgive, but I was not able to find it in any of the patch/hotfix notes. I found references to other related issues but not specifically about everyone on the server falling through player built structures all at the exact same time and this “desynching” or whatever you want to call it, continuing for several minutes. I did find several others reporting the same issue (some going back as far as 2018). I have been playing for over three years and have never had this issue happen so often like it has been since the last update. It was a very rare occurrence before.
I haven’t really been playing because of this. I logged in and just left my character standing there tonight for may 15-25 minutes. In that time I fell through my floor 2 times.
Maybe I should add also this has happened when only three of us were on and none of us were doing a purge. We were just in our bases doing normal stuff. I really don’t know what triggers it. I just hope Funcom is able to fix this since it has such a negative impact and is ruining the game for many.
It could be a shared host on overload. What works great for the single processor is failing with multi-core processes.
I mean the code makes an obvious test for where the ground is at. You still hear the falling toon. It does that for awhile and then determines what is left to do while offscreen. Remove the loading screen and it intuitively shows you.
I hope FunCom continues with this, keeping us in the loop, even while they send devs over to Dune. I skimmed the blog and article. Look at all the pets and monsters you can spawn in your own game.
I gave up on C++ except as a solution driver, but I’m using a hybrid C# and C11 implementation. My competition has been less about other players. Between C11 and C++, C11 has no low level virtual machine like C++ does.
Given this is also a timing issue, I digress here.
I have been falling in to my own foundations as of late a bit of a hassle to get out of it but yeah, I have been loading up under the map once more as long ago lol, good times and good memories albeit many bugs.
We have been dealing with this for months. On modded servers we rolling the server over and let everyone log back in.
Seems to work for a few days, then do it again.
I tend to notice this problem was around once before and it occurred when my character sounded as if they are falling before I load in completely. Maybe it’s the same problem as last time and the same fix they did would work.
This is a major problem, and seems to be affecting everyone. The problem has always existed, usually if your DB was way too big, it got worse with age of war chapter 3, and it got much worse with age of war chapter 4. There have been many many posts on this topic since the update.
Considering most Siptah servers can’t even run without crashing every 10 minutes though, and they still haven’t fixed that, I wouldn’t hold my breath for a solution to this problem.
Myself and others have speculated that the cause of the problem are changes pushing the single thread this game runs on to the limit, probably the UI changes, causing DB sizes that were acceptable before to be past the limit now, but that’s only a guess. That could be totally wrong. Another guess is it could have something to do with how far people are apart when online, there’s some cause to speculate to look there, but again just pure speculation.
One thing I know for sure is it seems to happens to everyone, regardless if there’s 2 people online or 50, and it’s extremely unpleasant as a server owner to have that one person join every day, and make the false claim that it’s only happening on your server alone, when anyone can search these forums to see that it’s happening everywhere. Maybe someone’s found a work around, but if they have I haven’t heard of it.
I did manage to work out my Siptah server crashes (for the most part, still happens sometimes when people purge at specific locations, but the problem seems to mostly be related to people building at C-9 on the beach), but for what it’s worth, the fall through the floor bug seems to mostly only be affecting my EL server. My Siptah server’s database is much smaller though, so if that’s the cause it could be why, or it could be coincidence.
We were noticing that it appears to happen on PS officials when someone is logging in. It’s usually a player we know has a large build.
I have been checking the player list every time, and it lines up. Someone in chat always mentions it, and then the rest of us will fall if we are on foundations. I fell through the foundations at the main build, and then through the cliff overhang to the valley waaaayyyy below. Had to recall my body, so, that was fun.
It has been happening, but the last traditional patch was posted last year. (I’m not sure of the version numbers).
There are players that just don’t care to use cheats and don’t want to know how, as it doesn’t fit a made obvious paradigm shift.
If you have a shared host, then you will want to know how without further burden. I get the gist of it. I think that the map (once dl’d) could be left uncompressed for better performance (on PS officials). Consider it a playlist with multiple octaves and filters. Classic. The SSD is going mainstream, so install or upgrade to one. Win10 doesn’t have a long lifespan.
I feel like it’s also related to the architecture of their code where the client’s actions aren’t adequately verified by the server. Under strain, it would be better if it rubber-banded you back to your last known position rather than allowing you to go through buildings.
Rubber band upon log in, there was no way to get out of it unless you relogged or died.
Whole server drops down through the base.
Log inside of meshes.
Was on this AM and we were all having issues with stairs and roof/floor tiles. I fell through the balcony for my elevator; to my death, twice before I sent for the elevator and stepped back to an actual foundation.
You could be right. Here’s what I know for sure:
The bug has always existed, but it has worsened significantly in the last two updates.
It’s affecting most, if not all, players who participate online, as evidenced by the extensive discussions here and elsewhere.
When it does happen, it happens to everyone on a server at once.
AndyB acknowledged it in the known issues post on April 22nd, but there has been no further comment since then.
I for one would be enthusiastic about a little more communication regarding major issues of these types. A simple update like, “The team is diligently working to resolve these issues. Although we don’t have a confirmed date for the next patch, rest assured that we are on it. Stay tuned for more details,” would be really wonderful. I’m kind of wondering if they’re going to address the bug at all or not.
Yea it was (is) one of my theories, that it is triggered by a player logging in who happens to have a complex build. I’ve not been playing enough to do any more testing though.
And personally I’ve never lost anything to the bug, even thralls. I just wait it out and once the bug is passed everything is back to normal.Things (and players) pop back up. I’ve never pulled bracelet on it.
I suspect the people who lost things just didn’t wait it out and made things worse.
