re: Conan Exiles crashes when trying to “Continue” single-player
@Ignasi I didn’t want to respond immediately, so I could test back-and-forth - but I believe you were right.
I think you solved it.
I had seen issues with other anti-viruses in the past - so when I built this rig, I left only the default “Windows Security” that came with the OS - and it had never alerted me of an issue nor affected other games before.
Yesterday I went to “Virus & Threat Protection” > “Virus & Threat Protection Settings” > “Manage Settings” … and at the bottom of the next page “Exclusions”. I added the entire Conan Exiles directory to it, hoping it’d leave it alone - but the error repeated.
Then I removed all my mods & tried again: create a new single-player file, build some quick structures, close the game out entirely and then try to reload it via “Continue”. Error repeated.
I copied the log and figured I’d go down the list to see if there were any errors I could Google. The crashes all end with: “Windows:Error: Unhandled Exception: EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION reading address 0x00000033”
.
The solution was under “Virus & Threat Protection Settings” > a toggled named “Real-time protection” that says it “Locates and stops malware from installing or running on your device. You can turn off this setting for a short time before it turns back on automatically.”
Turned it off last night, singe-player loads.
Turned itself back on this morning, single-player crashes.
Turned it back off, single-player loads.
Turned itself back on after I AFKed, single-player crashed.
Turned it back off, single-player loads.
So thank you, thank you, thank you! (Your explanation of the antivirus blocking it from loading into memory just made it everything clear.)
but the problem still exist.
