What’s the point of having fighters and archers on non-PVP servers? Right now, it seems like they don’t add anything to justify all the time I spend on getting food for them. Here’s my personal view on what they could help with but don’t:
Exploration: thralls are just too weak and fragile to take on an exploration trip, not to mention that they tend to bug out and die if they hit a perfectly normal-looking patch of terrain that they just happen to dislike. Pets are a bit better here, but they die randomly too.
Boss fights: definitely a task for pets. If I build a platform with 10 archers to help with a boss fight, I have to pray to gods of RNG and Server FPS that they will even shoot, not that their shots are very helpful. Meanwhile, a greater pet has over 8k health. Plop two of them down where you want to fight the boss, let the boss aggro on them and you have a much nicer experience.
Base defense: on PVE and PVE-C servers, the only thing that can threaten a base is the purge, which is currently broken again. Thing is, if you build a T3 base, you’re much better off not protecting it with thralls. If the purge happens while you’re offline (which it used to do during the short period it actually worked) and your base is undefended, the first wave might hammer on your walls and damaged them, but not break them. On the other hand, if you place thralls and they somehow manage to get rid of the first wave, the second wave will chew through your walls like a guinea pig through lettuce, because it was someone’s genius idea to put critters like King Scorpion in the second wave.
So, um, what’s the point of feeding my thralls? And no, this is not a roundabout way of saying you should nerf pets, because pets are actually fun and useful right now. Point is: either give thralls some actual use or nerf their ridiculous hunger.
Thralls are too weak to take with you? roflmao get some decent ones from harder areas and put armor ont hem. They’re far better at it than you, more durable, and with more hit points.
I understand it’s a wall of text, but did you read all of it or just skimmed until you could find something to nitpick? I do have thralls from all across the map, and even Vathis – the best fighter I’ve found – has less than half the hit points of a greater pet. And no, thralls are not “far better at it” than a player. The fighter thrall AI just goes in and keeps attacking its enemy. It doesn’t dodge, it doesn’t strategize at all.
My point isn’t that fighter and archers are completely broken, because they aren’t. My point is that they’re comparatively useless now that we have pets. They don’t have a comparative advantage over other alternatives.
I dont want to be a dork but like… grab a named fighter from the volcano and he has 6150 hps…place him in silent armor with a starmetal or snake hammer and watch out… dudes a powerhouse… WAY better than any of the greater pets hps aside…
I am on a pvp sever and if this is not true on all i apolgize for my ignorance.
Interesting, the hit points for Vathis are much better than they used to be. I stand corrected, fighters might be useful, but archers still seem to be a waste of food.
vathis and all t4 from the volcano now have the double of this amount: 6 150 HP.
The only 2 things that i agree with is that thralls are wonky and even more buggy than most of the pets (rhinos are really buggy too btw). And some pets like tigers/rhinos/panthers/bears can be really easy to get compared to high lvl thralls.
But , as others have already replied, a thrall with about 3 000 Hp ( t3 fighters from the heirs of the north and the lost tribe for example) you Don’t even need t4 from the vocano to be efficient, will be MUCH more tanky and much more dangerous with good gear than pets and even greater pets.
Just take your greater pet into a taugh fight, look at the time you need to kill your ennemies and how much health your pet has lost at the end of the day (Note that when you’re on adventure for a descent amount of time, every single hit point NEEDS to regenerate as quickly as possible)
Do that again with a high level well geared thrall and compare…the difference is HUGE !
Ennemies will fall much faster with a thrall follower and your follower will be at full health much much quicker than a pet… for a longer adventure
You may not equip your thralls as well as you think you do maybe?
Yeah, I normally don’t equip them too well, because if they die randomly – which they keep doing due to pathing issues – I don’t want to choose between losing good gear or hobbling around overencumbered until I get to a map room.
Again, I’m convinced my arguments were wrong about fighters, but that still leaves archers. I guess what I’m trying to say with the whole post is that there’s a lot of bugfixing and balancing to be done. Which, after I’ve slept on it, is something everyone is aware of and it’s nothing new and there’s not much hope that repeating it will get it fixed any time soon, unless it’s a PVP complaint
I also prefer fighters to pets. And I agree that archers are kind of a waste now, and this became very true when they decided to change the ammo mechanics. It’s not worth it to both feed and restock decent arrows when thralls have such poor line of sight discrimination.
I for one wish they would change arrows back to the way they were. It wasn’t game breaking, and if someone wants to sit there collecting special arrows, I say let them. Restocking arrows takes far more away from the game.
i can def understand, but i equip them as good as i can nontheless . those you stay defending your base should not die from path finfing issues or wrong bugged téléportations in most places, but followers, well they can die easily yes.
Archers are now much better than a few months ago when they were almost never shooting at targets. the only issue with them is their DPS imo.
yes there is no doubt about it.
Will the AI ever meet a descent working state? i’m doubting it, considering how hard have been struggling funcom and the compagny responsible for the AI to improve it. Right now it is kinda working but not enough for my taste at least.
fighters need like 4-5 sec staring at their target before landing the first blow
combat thralls sometimes forget how to use their weapons, doing Nothing but running after mobs
followers dying from fall damage due to buggy téléportations
figthers unable to find the hitbox of tall ennemies 90% of the time
Thralls/ NPCS/ creatures Walking to their death into the lava or jumping from cliffs like they often do at the pagoda.
Thralls and pets almost unable to hit a Moving target when you try to kite an ennemy and enjoy watching your followers/ guards backstabbing them. This is about as hilarious as frustrating.
So when i see for example tascha (who is doing a great job at communicating here on the forum BTW) asking players “what is exactly going wrong about thralls AI and stuff” i feell like it’s a lost cause since you Don’t need to spend 1 000 hours playin the game to notice all that stuff, and by browsing the threads here on the forums you can easily find a lot of topics speaking about AI issues.
Sorry, i didn’t want to talk about all that stuff here since i trully Believe it’s a lost cause, but our little discussion led me there, and i felt like it had to be said….again.
