Fishing system has to go. It's total fail

That is exactly it right there. Frillen you nailed it!

I think before adding more content to the game, Funcom should return to cooking and fishing. These systems have been made obsolete for the sake of balance. The game feels lesser without them.

Cooking and fishing is not entirely obsolete, some of the food recipes give pretty good healing without being locked into an animation like healing potions and wraps, but I agree there could be more to them

PS. sort by healing property in the wiki for better comparison.

not just the west, i got one from the north… but it was rare.

i would also like to add in that the crab pods traps seems to be a no more use… i haven’t found one use for shellfish after the update that broke the fishing…

That’s right, they are all now supposed to able to drop from any altar, and can, but as per this guide someone threw up a while back, well…personally I’ve found I had more luck at least finding armorers and alchemists with it.

At the very least they should ditch the decay timer as some people’s bases are a long distance from water.

Or allow us to place fishing traps inside large wells again. As @Frillen pointed out, the realism isn’t as important as the balance or the fun. Seeing bodies of water choked by other people’s fisheries on PVE(-C) servers is not a lot of fun. If they let people place fishing traps in large wells again, that could mitigate that problem, and also give large wells a purpose beyond being a costly decorative piece.

for one a t3 on siptah doesn’t make oil it takes a t4… and you do what you gotta do when you aint got a t4 alchamist… or i guess you didn’t know that …

I have 6 fridges of Ymir’s feast. Pick mushrooms, farm some stone for salt and feral flesh and it’s done.
17hp/3sec really good in combat.

It depends on how we define worthy investment…
I have absolutely no problem with some of the better recipes and spend very little time on making them, even without having religious food available.
I mostly only use simple food when doing daily chores and the better food when I’m out fighting stuff, so it’s not like I need tons of them, below I have listed some of the better foods I mostly use, in my opinion they do not take a lot of time and effort…

  • Lasting Feast, gives 13 hp every 3 seconds, 1 Roasted Haunch, 1 Soup and 1 Aloe Leaves.

  • Exotic Feast(If you have eggs), gives 14 hp every 3 seconds, 1 Exotic flesh, 1 egg, 5 dried berries.

  • Cooked Pork Strips, gives 9 hp every 3 seconds, 1 raw pork, 1 salt, 1 spice

  • Fish Strips, gives 9 hp every 3 seconds, 1 Unappetizing Fish, 1 Savory Fish, 1 Exotic Fish

Even though these aren’t among the best foods, I still find pretty good and fairly easy and fast to gather resources for, so in my opinion some of the better foods are absolutely worthy

the pork feast too also does really good

I think he means in real life. Fish in a stream will go in a trap with out bait if only to stay out of the stronger current.

Umm… doesn’t anyone else take a sickle to the plants and harvest seeds? Great for gruel and oil. When I need oil I just throw on some survival gear (Asura armor) for the double harvest and get busy. You need plant fiber for all the stone consolidant too, so it is a double benefit. When fish traps don’t work in an enjoyable way, this produces great results, while waiting for your T4 Alchy.

I’ve found far more oil than I need, just from a couple hours of harvesting bushes. I don’t use a lot of insulated wood for building, so it is all about the armor and tinker bench for me and a couple thousand oil lasts… probably till I get bored of the game.

Did they change the ratio? It used to be 15 seeds for 1 oil. If you use oil for fuel, that’s not bad. But let’s say you’re crafting epic heavy armor, and let’s say you’re doing it on Siptah, where catching that T4 alchemist is (still) a considerable achievement.

For starters, you’ll need 5 perfected heavy padding pieces for your suit of armor. If you have the garrison armorer’s bench, that’s 21 hardened leather per perfected heavy padding, which means you’ll nead 105 hardened leather in total. Since you need 5 oil for 1 hardened leather, that’s 525 oil, which translates into 7875 seeds.

And that’s just for the padding. If the armor blueprint requires hardened leather on top of that, like Cimmerian Steel armor does, then the cost gets nastier.

It’s perfectly doable, it’s just mindnumbingly boring.

I do tend to bring a few sickles when I go out, but oddly I find reaping the bushes quite relaxing work. I have freezers full of bugs too and no plans on fishing with them.

But I do think fishing should switch back to what it was. Babysitting traps is a terrible mechanic.

A simple solution would be to make the traps work like preservation boxes. Yes, people could “cheat” by putting non-bait stuff in there to preserve, but there are very little slots, and water is cold if you think about it…

It’s not like they have to allow people to put non-bait stuff inside. As far as I know, you can’t put steaks inside a radium torch.

that was running 100 fish traps and like 20 improved fish traps at the same time. using grubs from my grub farm… going back and forth grabing fish cause they decay faster then what the timer says they do… and running bugs from grub farm over and over … filling traps with 50 grubs each at a time and wait a few minutes go check traps and repeat… the grub farm… doing that for 4 hours straight is not really worth it to come out with just a lil over 2k oil…

and you can only really put 50 grubs in at a time if you put in more you waste them they spoil fast also…
