Floating over foundations

Testlive, private dedicated, no mods.

I recorded this 30 second silent vid of a visual anomaly showing that it happens over two of the same type triangular foundations. The structure is complex (a work of art done by another tester), but since admin, I did ghost under the floor.

The triangular foundation is on top of a square sandstone foundation. I could find no other relevant clues.

This happens to me all the time. I usually log out and back in and that takes care of it.

Interesting. Iā€™ve had it happen when first loading into a game, but it was always my entire foundation causing the floating behavior and leaving/returning render range always fixed it. Iā€™ve never seen it isolated to one foundation before. In case @drachenfeles is correct as to the cause, I have HDDā€™s. @Jim1 can correct me if Iā€™m wrong, but I believe he runs SSDā€™s.

Yes, Samsung 970 EVO 1T is the drive I use for my games and the devkit.

I have this floating over building pieces bug for a long time now, but it happens in the regular game, on official server. It starts and stops dependent on the playerĀ“s position on the floor, similar to the video, but related to bigger chunks of ceiling tiles. Those ceilings in my base where it happens are all square and stacked (several ceiling tiles over each other, in very close distances). Relogging can stop the bug, as well as leaving and reentering the rendering distance. If I log out on a ceiling tile that is not stacked at the same place in the base, I donĀ“t get the bug when starting the game, if I log out on the top one of the stacked ceilings, my character starts floating when I start the game. The game runs on a HDD :frowning:

R4nd0m, if I read this correctly, you are stacking the same building geometries, ie square over square?

It would seem to rule out the triangular over square, so the only difference left is foundation stacks vs ceiling ā€˜stacksā€™. Do you have something like that with the ability to reproduce the anomaly?

I am on the same server as the video and never use foundations with different geometries and have never experienced this bug.

Narrowing down root causes are always fun

I am playing on a modded server (yeah, I know) but I have this bug even though I have no stacked foundations at all. I am basically on the ground level with 1 foundation almost fully in the mesh. My game also runs on SSD. Once I relog, the issue disappears until I fully exit the client.

Ahhh, now I understand. A restart of the client sometimes results in a floater, a relog clears it?

And we have found no structural component to the bug.

Both of it (mostly squares over squares, but there are also shiftings and triangles), but the floating does not happen in only one of these areas.

DonĀ“t know if itĀ“s relevant here, but also vertical stacking (fence foundations very close to each other) can amplify positioning problems: A follower that I put on guard on such a surface fell into the mesh next time I relogged. ItĀ“s the only time that happened in my clan.

On the server, Iā€™ve basically turned the floor of my base into a testing surface of different foundation pieces in case we get ā€œluckyā€ enough for it to happen again.

And we praise you for your dedication !

Should we start another thread to collect data on the falling through bug? I could think of a few tests for those who experience it. There are three specific places it happens to me. We seem to be on a roll here
