Followers completely broken

Since the latest patch my follower thralls, including pets, are constantly getting stuck in place and stay stuck no matter how far I get from them, even if I teleport via map room. They get behind a rock and can’t get out, they hover one foot off the ground and can’t move, or they just get stuck behind an invisible wall and won’t move no matter what I do. It used to be that if you ran a certain distance your follower would eventually just teleport back to you, now they don;t and if I try to command them I just get “Your follower can’t reach that location” even though the location I’m trying to order them to is a patch of completely empty desert. Using stand and guard to move them gets them unstuck, but if I order them to follow again they inevitably get stuck on another invisible wall within 100 feet or so.

The last straw was tonight trying to get a fighter thrall to follow me down the stairs to the entrance to the Witch-Queen’s Palace. He’d go about 10 or 15 feet and then stop and I’d get “Your follower cannot reach that location” even though I was standing 50 feet from him. I’d manually move him and he’d immediately get stuck again. I carried him to the bottom of the stairs and that was it, he wouldn’t budge no matter what I did. The only way I could get him out was to press Stand and Guard and run about 10 miles back to my base with his spawn ghost and then place him in the base when I got there.

This is making the game pretty dang near unplayable since I can’t use follower thralls even just to carry things for me.

Is anyone else having this problem?

Edit: playing SP Exiled Lands on PC

I haven’t experienced anything like that. my follower is great. Whenever he/she does get stuck, it only takes 10-20 seconds for them to teleport to me, and we continue on our merry way.

This is weird, I know I can’t place a thrall very far away from where they are already standing, maybe 3-4 screens away. If I try, I will get the error message ‘target location is too far away’ (or something like that). Are you using any mods?

I had similar problem when i was running with thrall and i kept using “come back” command.
Maybe try to use command less? When you use command and they can’t finish action they won’t teleport to you until they finish it. For me not using action when running / traveling helped.

Mine def get stuck on environmental stuff but on console double clicking orders them to stop which 9/10 times will teleport them within a few seconds back to your side. They are def a bit silly these days though and the fact that they keep their weapon out ALL the time means that they travel much slower and are always behind. I’m sure their AI will be addressed eventually. I absolutely don’t see it as being “unplayable” though. More a minor annoyance.

Inside the Citadel of the Triumvirate, my companion stopped at certain points and teleported because he couldn’t get across the flat floor - in the Live version of the game. But I checked out Testlive yesterday and there were a lot less problems. There is some information that the companion cannot reach the place, but it is better.

Looking at what was a few months ago, companions decide to teleport to the player much faster. It’s not a perfect solution, but at least it works.

That’s how it always was for up until the last week or so. I took a short break from CE so I don;t know when it might have changed.

Yes, a bunch, but I reloaded the game without any of them and still had the same problem. I did not try “carrying” a follower that far without the mods, though.

It makes it very difficult to mine significant amounts of ore and even more so to move to a new base limited to moving only what you can carry. The longer the distance I’m trying to travel the closer the chance of the thrall getting hung up approaches 100%. I tried using admin teleports but that failed to move the thrall 100% of the time. Map room teleports work a little better but are still dicey.

I will try Mefistos’ suggestion of not ordering them to move and seeing if they teleport on their own. But I still can’t get a thrall to follow me down the stairs at the Witch Queen’s Palace with or without using a command - they get stuck on the stairs and stay there until I either move them (which creates the problem that now their default location is out in the middle of nowhere) or set them to scouting and waiting for them to come home.

I’m sorry you’re having such a frustrating experience with your thralls. What you have described has never been the case for me, but I only play on official servers with no mods. The was roughly a 2 month stint, prior to the 2.4 update, where thralls were getting stuck a lot more frequently. However, Funcom fixed that issue in the 2.4 update, back in late April.

I’m not saying my thrall ‘never’ gets stuck, he does. But a quick double tap of ‘E’ tells him to STOP whatever he’s doing, followed by a quick triple tap of ‘E’ to tell him to RETURN to me, and boom, no more stuck thrall. You said you play single player, perhaps give it a try on an official server (without mods) and see how it goes.

FYI, when I am transferring a bunch of stuff to a new base I don’t bother using thralls at all. It’s much easier to sprint back and forth with a full encumbrance build. GL and happy hunting!

It happens a lot, a lot. But like @Darkzombie I play on Playstation so my contribution might be useless. This thing started long ago, with the non combo from the thralls . It was the main reason I have to change my play style. Until then full encumbrance was my main, now it is at least 4 perks in strength, I have to do the fights, my thrall is my healing shield only and I continue. So in order to have him just for awhile to help a little on the combat what I do is simple.

  1. I never look back, I just face my opponent and press just once the square button to order my thrall to attack
  2. I don’t wait for it I jump to my fights, in some seconds and especially if the opponent hit me, since my thrall is on guard me order, he teleports to the fight and he starts fighting.
Don’t trust them anymore, you are the hero, they just tank the fight, that’s all.
May Crom give you strength exile

That is the method I always use. But sometimes you need to engage in a fight, afterwards, and the thrall will usually show up.

Did many test on official pc pvp server and it seems it’s worse then it was one year ago.
Many times they just stop following and sit in one spot, many times they keep following but become invisible (even after rebooting game) - in most cases waiting for it to come back home is only solution.

In my experience on XB. I have encountered thralls issues to the point that my thralls are named; Cripple Head, Swing and a Miss, Stands with Rocks, Where Did You Hugo?..

Cant catch up to npcs.
Cant hit npcs if they ever do catch them.
Cant get/hold agro.
Cant use animations for walking.
Cant figure out how to rest their left arm.
Cant see backwards, refuses to look in the direction of travel, and cant hit things they do not face.
Cant stay above map terrain
Cant wait for vacations to end…ok that one is me…

I’ve definitely seen some of my thralls fall behind a lot more than others

One of my relic hunters is terrible about it. Every time I get where I’m going they are way behind and just refuse to teleport

My other relic hunter is absolutely Johnny on the spot, slaying suckers gliding past rough terrain and being an all around swell guy.

I have no idea why the discrepancy is occurring, but each of them are consistent, it’s just one is consistently bad😝

I also find if you are on a PvP server kicking them a few times can help snap them out of it.

Plus its fun

Here I thought I was the only one who enjoys cav-jabbing Cormag in the Set Mask when he slacks off.
