One thing that I know is trying for both players and server owners…
Try to log in - modlist doesn’t match or they receive an error stating the server is out of date.

Players can’t get on and serve owners may be in bed, out of town etc. This creates a constant need to keep an eye on your server so you and your players can play the game.

Is there a way to create an auto-updater?
Something you could sub to that would search for game and mod updates (based on workshop subscriptions) and then update your server accordingly without having to have a Server Admin manually do it?

If someone has built this, or could I’m certain a number of folks would be eternally grateful.

There is a dedicated server tool available that can update servers on start. If server admin uses this tool then he can also schedule automatic restart of server every day. This way the servers will atleast be updated once pr. day.

@ladydawnya there will also be a auto-updater for mods soon. See Server Configuration on the Official Wiki to get a better understanding of each tool that is (being) developed.
