Game crashes due to mounted paks not equalling expected paks

Bug Description:

When I launch the game, it crashes and gives me an error message about Paks. Specifically:

The UE4-ConanSandbox Game has crashed and will close

Fatal error: [File:C:\B\tech_exiles\code\UE4\Source\ConanSandbox\ConanSandbox.cpp] [Line: 404]
Mounted paks num(61) not equal to expected paks num(59) and (1) optional packs not available. Please verify your installation

Note: I have verified the installation multiple times. I have uninstalled and reinstalled multiple times. These are not viable solutions to this problem.

Installed Mods:

I have zero mods installed. I also have deleted any mod resources on my computer.

Steps to Reproduce:

Please provide a step-by-step process of how the bug can be reproduced. Please be as detailed as possible; the more details, the easier it will be for us to find and fix the bug:

  1. Open game.
  2. Intro movie starts.
  3. Game crashes.

I canā€™t be more specific than that.

Iā€™ve seen other people having this issue, and the answer I consistently see them getting is ā€œverify the installationā€ and ā€œuninstall and delete all modsā€. Iā€™ve done both of those things already. Please, this is my favorite survival game, and I just wanna play it :frowning:

Probably something wrong with your modlist.txt would be my guess. Delete it or rename it and see what happens.

I think the default path is \Steam\steamapps\common\Conan Exiles\ConanSandbox\Mods

Do you have spare room on your hard drive after installation?

Yup, almost a terabyte.

Any anti-virus that might be blocking some files? I have had this issue once or twice but it was always resolved by clean re-install which I take it didnā€™t work for you.

Thank you for that suggestion, I actually hadnā€™t tried that. I turned off my anti-virus and gave it a try. Didnā€™t work, but I hadnā€™t done it yet so thank you :slight_smile: At least helps me check off options.

Iā€™m having this issue lately, too.
Reinstalled lately, and the only thing Iā€™ve been able to get out of it is this thing happening.
When that didnā€™t work, as it usually does in my experience, I uninstalled and reinstalled - because whenever verifying doesnā€™t work, Iā€™m aware clean reinstall usually does. It didnā€™t help at all.

Iā€™ve got no mods, whatsoever - not installed (as far as I can tell), nor subscribed or anything.
Have verified a ton of times now, with no success or change in terms of the issue.

Seeing as this seems to be a topic thatā€™s popped up more than once lately, I didnā€™t want to open a report of my own, but Iā€™d really love to get it solved somehow and I donā€™t know how, personally.

Ok, Iā€™m just taking a shot in the dark here, but when you guys uninstall the game, do you manually go in and delete the leftovers? Steam, for example, doesnā€™t delete mod files and such when uninstalling a game. Thereā€™s also maybe some files in your documents folder. If for whatever reason one of those files is the culprit, it wonā€™t matter how many times you uninstall and reinstall.

Yes, Iā€™ve manually deleted the leftovers, the mods folders, anything found in the documents folder, et cetera.
As with other suggestions, I do appreciate you trying to help :slight_smile:

Same as Kristathan said. Manually deleted everything relating to it post uninstalling it on Steam, at least as far as Iā€™ve found.

Iā€™d love to bump this. Itā€™s mind boggling to me that other people are also having this problem and there isnā€™t a solution :frowning:

What processor/motherboard/GPU are people running here? Iā€™m having the same issue and wondering if maybe itā€™s a driver/hardware thing.

Also, can others please post the error logs.

This seems like a memory leak somewhere.

My Specs:
AMD Ryzen 5 2600
ASUS ROG STRIX X370-F GAMING
AMD Radeon 6800 XT

In my logs Iā€™m getting a lot of errorsā€¦ I canā€™t put the whole thing here, so hereā€™s the portions I hope are relevant.

Hereā€™s the errors I think are relevant to the freezing on the opening movie (mine is disabled).

LogD3D11RHI: IDXGISwapChain::SetFullscreenState returned 887a0022; waiting for the next frame to try again.

Before the crash, there are a bunch of errors where the game fails to load ā€˜forbidden file namesā€™ and then fails to load icons. From there my game seems to degrade then crash with an ā€œEXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATIONā€.

I hope this helps and if anyone else is able to track this down, it would be awesome.

Iā€™ve recently tried to get back into Conan. It worked all fine and dandy like a year ago, with the exception my driver says there are issues with the current version. It still loaded though, but now I am also getting this Pak problem.

I was given this error today after installing Conan Exiles on my laptop. After scrolling through the paks folder D:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Conan Exiles\ConanSandbox\Content\Paks I noticed that two of the files had different creation dates than the rest (older dates, probably from when I last had it installed), a pak and its associated sig. I promptly deleted the two files and now my game is running smoothly.

As a side note, my error message said that I had 201 paks and it was expecting 200, so I only needed to find 1 rogue pak. Also, for a bit of context, I copied my installation from my desktop, including a lot of mods and didnā€™t attempt reinstallation or file verification after getting the error.
