It seems like i am getting hit with this nuisance of a problem when i try to place building objects.
It will sit there and make the sound of being placed, but says it cannot be placed.
There does not appear to be any obstructions, i am able to build all the way around the issue area and sometimes all i have to do is swap the piece i am trying to place to something else and it may place that other piece instead , but not the one i want.
Not sure what the heck is going on, it’s not damaged, has plenty of support.
It’s getting old, it just seems to randomly act up and not allow me to place a building item such as say a ramp or in some cases a foundation.
Right now i am trying to build in the desert/sand and it happens a lot there.
Don’t recall if it has occurred anywhere else as of yet.
I was working on my base over one of the lakes and it gave me the cannot place item issue yet again…
I was trying to add a ceiling tile on to a sloped roof item.
I could place other random items in that “void” area, but not my ceiling tile i was trying to use.
Apparently i was not even able to add an extra sloped roof on top of that sloped roof item either.
Not sure wth is going on here, it accepted other items in that spot, but not another sloped roof or a ceiling tile, any ceiling tile.
I was even able to place a pillar in that space that would have been covered by the ceiling tile…
If i can’t make a simple roof for my base, i don’t know what the point is in playing, that’s the only reason i play these days is to build, and that has become a mini-game of it’s own just playing whacka-mole trying to place building pieces.
I built all the floors and everything else of the base just fine till i got to adding a roof to close up the top of the base.
I can’t see myself spending any more money on this game or playing really till this is fixed, this is really a bad bug.
Not to forget the falling through foundations issue my horses have…
I don’t have a screenshot, and i feel it would be pointless to provide one as it does not show any error details, it just says unable to place item and it makes the sound as if it did place the item when it clearly did not.
Even a video wouldn’t be of any help, it’s one of those bugs that unless you can get at the error details it prints up behind the scenes you are not going to really get an idea of what causes it.
When I bought the Asir building set I had to increase the range of stability to use it. Triangle pieces lost stability fast. You might try that @LonePlayer
My decay timer is set for the lowest .1
My stability multiplayer is set to lowest also.
I thought there was a disable decay timer at one time, but not seeing it now.
When i set stability to say 5, i couldn’t place any ceiling tile at all anywhere, it wouldn’t snap, i put it back to 0 and it would start working again.
Sadly though, it would not attach to that void area.
I am going to try and see if the triangle tiles might be the issue that are next to it.
If it turns out to be the case, then i will reply back here as having solved the problem.
Well, i deleted my save files and copied back in my backups and tried again.
One side of my building started accepting the ceiling tiles like normal while the other side did not till i ripped some walls and replaced it.
It should be noted i tried to place a corner roof item and it wouldn’t turn around fully 360 until i ripped down a couple of wall pieces and replaced them, then everything worked.
Well for that side of the base, the other side acted like it had no issues at all.
Keep in mind, i did that yesterday as well and it still wouldn’t fix that void area issue not allowing ceiling tiles but allowed everything else, well most everything else.
No clue what is going on, seems to be no rhyme to it that i can zero in on to say it’s my fault so i can correct it.
Both sides of my base are the same design.
As mentioned before, my pyramid in the desert had a similar issue, and it had no triangle-wedges, but it happened when i was placing ramps along the sides, but it would take the stairs, but not the ramps.
If it was foundation issues, it should still have given me issues on my new base even with the backup.
It seems to have self corrected for the time being, but as i said, it’s not the first time i have had pieces not set.
Are you checking pieces with a repair hammer for stability as you go. I have very little experience in offline either playing on my server or official. Currently my biggest issue is construction hammer becoming Destruction hammer
Yea, that looks like my page.
Abandonment is disabled, and stability is set to 0.
I am going to try the repair hammer, though i never use creative mode hammer at all.
I just use admin and plunk pieces down, why it would be damaged already is news to me, but i will try the repair hammer next and see if i can’t check for item dmg.
I don’t have build anywhere enabled, and honestly not sure what that even does lol or if it’s really relevant in my case since i am able to build there just running into void locations within my own plot of land i already have most of my base already set up.
Build anywhere lets you place alot of items down… just about anywhere.
Some limitations still apply. It allows me to build my old home on Oasis when checked… which is all I cared about. XD
Now… as for Stability Multiplier…
Wouldn’t it Be Building stability limit x 0.0 which = 0 Anything times zero is zero?
Default is one… (insert number) x 1 = 100%
I left it as 1, I was tempted to increase limit… itlest how I read info… Always worried a new update will reset it back to 1. And find everything broken down for 100th time.
Everything seems to be working ok now on my lake base, however…
I went to my pyramid base and checked a location where i had to use stairs on the side of my pyramid instead of a ramp and the problem still existed, it would not let me place a ramp there still.
I checked it with a repair hammer without anything adjacent to that location but an anchor point foundation and it all checked out, no dmg and max stability and it still would not let me place my ramp as siding for my pyramid in that location.
I even tried an AQ slanted roof piece and it let me place that, but not my ramp.
The stairs were a decent replacement, but the bug still exists and the repair hammer showed me nothing as to why i am getting this issue.
I checked around my pyramid in areas that i knew worked and were ok, and the hammer gave me the same readings as the problem area, yet those other areas worked.
So the hammer unfortunately did not help me find a fix.
Stability Loss Multiplier of 0.0 turns off stability. I could place a foundation with 500 ceilings going in a straight line if I wanted. Is it logical? No. But it prevents a lot of hassle, and as far as how things look, we just simply don’t build things that don’t look stable.
This might not be what’s wrong in your case, but something that has prevented me from placing pieces down is doors. Not the door frame, but the door itself. Often I’ve been unable to place a wall or foundation somewhere near my door, and simply removing the door fixed the issue. Placing the door back doesn’t break what I put down.
Good point on the doors - another one that has similarly caused me problems (frequently lol) is standing torches. From what the OP is saying I doubt this is the issue, but I figured I might as well throw it in as a possibility just in case.
