Guess who's back?

So after having given up on CE awhile ago having quit because of griefers, I’m back now because of the new server policies.

After losing my character on ARK to a server transfer, I pretty much lost 4000 hours of progress.

So I drifted around a bit playing Star Citizen, until I read that CE official servers actually have policies now. So, I returned to CE in a heartbeat, and with me my clan, most of which I met on my original server on Conan Exiles.

We originally all quit CE (we were an alliance of 4 clans) because of 2 people who were dead set on rendering the server unavailable to others.

So when we came back, we decided to move to a different server; the same server @Ragnaguard is on, and O.M.G. I couldn’t believe an official server could even be that lovely!

The community there is something you’d usually only see on unofficial servers.

So Ragnaguard invited me to his base, and he reallly geared me and my clan up proper, taught me a few things, and basically caught me up to speed. So I asked how I could repay him for his kindness, and he said: “Well, I don’t expect anything in return. But if you really want to pay me back, there’s only 1 thing I’d appreciate: Be kind to newcomers.”

So, I realized why the server was in such a good state. Nobody used pillars, and spots were actually available to build on. People were neighborly and everyone said good morning to one another. This is social engineering done right, with the purest of heart and intention, executed by example and virtue.

I couldn’t believe it was even Conan Exiles.

The T4 Thralls were so well balanced across the map, we had a clear sense of progression. Never did it feel like a grind. Nobody blocked sinner’s refuge, or was obnoxious about caves and passages.

Nobody built massive walls quartering off entire landscapes like on our old server.

We couldn’t believe something like this was even possible on official servers and yet a miracle happened.

So we’re back, happier then ever before. We had a total blast with all the new content FC implemented into the game. (We quit around the time when mounts were added).

I gained 2 of my favorite thralls within 2 days of starting new: Grrr Legbiter and Njoror (whome I originally needed several month to camp)

And levelling up my character from zero to hero was a fun experience, and thus I didn’t feel like it was a grind, but then… I had some help from Ragna and a tribey who has “pre-played” a little, and talked me into coming back to CE.

So all in all, thanks to @Ragnaguard for nurturing the server and to Funcom for implementing policies. It is the best thing FC has ever done.

I don’t care about sorcery, or anything anymore, because server policy tops all of that.

I can not overstate the importance of policy as it has an incredible effect on the psychology of people. It gives hope and solidarity among those with decency.

Keep up the good work.

Thanks to this many more of my friends are returning to CE, because it has now gained the “New World” status. No-longer is it grief-town.

I’m happy for you because firstly you’re back (don’t know you but you seem quite friendly), and secondly because you find a good official server. Let me tell you that the problem with griefers is far form being solved. There are still alpha clans blocking stuff, mobs, resources, roads, bullying newcomers in officials servers with total impunity and with the complicity of those other players who allow it choosing to look other way instead of doing something.

Problem is that we, the ones that invest time reporting those abuses wasting our time making screenshots, collecting evidences, writing the reports, etc are few. If the rest of the players really cares about the health of the official servers they would do something about it, sending reports instead of “ignoring” that kind of attitude from those alpha clans.

Anyways … welcome back, I hope you enjoy your time here. Cheers

I’m back?

But I see a lot of fighting you are also happy with…

But welcome!

In my experience with your attitude, you will have a big problem in this real world, you are looking to much to the attitude of people instead staying at facts (try less emotional thinking).

Things like;

Alpha clans blocking stuff, mobs, resources, roads, bullying newcomers in officials servers with total impunity and with the complicity of those other players who allow it choosing to look other way instead of doing something.

Depending the interpretation, you don’t say anything above what is against the rules.

Problem is that we, the ones that invest time reporting those abuses wasting our time making screenshots, collecting evidences, writing the reports, etc are few.

Respect, I really respect and appreciate this and the effort being made, like the attitude of anti-cheating.

If the rest of the players really cares about the health of the official servers they would do something about it, sending reports instead of “ignoring” that kind of attitude from those alpha clans.

I’m on the forums complaining that these devs can’t make the right choices of what is in their power. Unlike you, I don’t blame players for not doing anything against cheating. Simply because it should be the developers problem and we can help them (OPTION, not a MUST even if I want healthy servers) reporting players (should be in the game code anyway and the fact that the focus on cheating just started says enough for me and I’m not doing their job what you are doing).

Sending reports instead of “ignoring” that kind of attitude from those alpha clans.

If you have send 1000 reports on 1 cheater in your server for months and he/she is not getting banned. You will start ignoring, believe me…if you would continue to play.

Our gaming experience will have progress, only if we start playing right. People like @Ragnaguard and @Zeb are light keepers. Thank you for this wonderful post and i really hope that the comunity of all the official servers will one day take example from the servers we enjoy to play. Once again, welcome back :+1:

I just read your nice message , and this is exactly how I deal with new commers ( the ones that express themselves on the general chat ) and our community in general does help the new commers , but this " if you really want to repay me , be nice to new commers " is exactly what I would respond  keep up the good spirits guys , in the long run only us will survive  !!!

What was your old server? From the way you describe it, I’m kind of curious to check it out.

Welcome back, Halcyon. I remember you from the forums back when you were active, good to have you back, and with such a great, encouraging story to share with us, too

This basically sums up everything we need to know about building communities. Not only in-game but also in real life. If a new employee starts at your office, be nice and welcoming to them. If a new family moves to the next-door apartment, be nice to them. If there’s a new librarian at your local library, be nice to them. And keep being nice to them after the novelty value has worn off, of course.

It’s not difficult. Really.

I had a similar experience somewhere around 2005 when I first dabbled in MMOs, specifically Runescape (I could run it on my office desktop back then… cough). I was just wandering around the newbie region learning the basics when a player approached me, asked if I needed any help, gave me some stuff that was useful for beginner levels and some good advice. I was naturally suspicious and asked what the catch was, and she told me she and her friend just wanted to share what they had and make the game more fun for everyone.

I never talked to her since, but I remembered. And I always will.

We are the ones that make communities. Communities are what we bring into them. Fighting toxicity and reporting rulebreakers is only one step - but to truly flourish we need to bring in positivity, fun and friendship, too.

I’m happy for you for finding it.

At least you came back to a good situation.

I came back from my break to my PRIVATE FRIGGIN SERVER only to find that my son was having “theory time with trebuchets” while I was out and a project I’d been working on was leveled.

AARRRRGH!!!

Your son is ready to join a pvp server then. I hear offline raiding is popular on officials
