Heavy armor needs a stagger reduction

Dodge in heavy armor is pretty much useless… why is there no stagger protection? In Dark Souls, if you wear heavy you can’t dodge roll, however you can take hits without staggering…

They call that “hyper-armor” in DS, and honestly, I agree. If you’re going to have heavy armor and reduce your dash by that much, there should be non-staggerable frames when heavy swinging.

Now that you mentioned, I wonder the same too. It would be great to have that. Light clothing doesn’t restrict flexibility so dodging, climbing and such feats work as calculated, but this type of clothing doesn’t help us keep our balance. Heavier harnesses do restrict flexibility so dodging for example gets nerfed, but balance should be easier to maintain; i.e. giving greater stagger protection. I can’t see why this isn’t already in the game. Is it?

Actually its “Poise” in dark souls, the heavier armor you wear the higher poise you get, but it makes you turtle roll, however staggers are negated.

Edit: used to be poise but now known as hyper armor.

Anyway, as said before, makes no sense to have a useless dodge mechanic, makes heavy armor almost risky to use while it shouldn’t be, so annoying when you get stunned by trash undead in unamed city trying to get to the bosses :\

I’m personally not fond of mere number game tweaks. These are rather quick changes, surely, and like any mere number buff and nerf, they do affect the choices players make, but not necessarily in a good immersive sense. In other words these tweaks don’t uphold the cause which in this case is to keep options at the table. For this reason number tweaking is best utilised in the polish phase imo.

The need is best served by allowing a significant enough variety of styles and approach methods to flourish instead. Thus I like the idea of making items have personal properties to differentiate them in action, not just fashion.

Personally, I’d prefer it they bring back poise (yes, we had that during EA as protection against knockdown/knockback) and have it protect against stagger. The higher the poise rating (based on armor weight and AGI), the more difficult it becomes to stagger the player.

Lowering the reduction of medium armor any further would be a bad move in my opinion (I agree that light armor has a bit too much protection though). Also, it’s pretty easy to miss a dodge roll due to lag.

Yeah, I remember Poise existed in the game, although I didn’t play early access very much because it would’ve melted the computer I had back then, so I don’t know if it actually worked. I did briefly wonder why it had been removed, but didn’t miss it much.

It would totally make sense if people in heavy armor were at least somewhat resistant to stagger, to make it more competitive with armors in which you can actually dodge.

Whenever heavy armour is worn, the dodge feels more like a sidestep. Then I thought about how I could utilise it. So instead of dodging away (for a mere couple steps), I sidestep behind my target.
