Help me remember- re: painting walls,

I am trying to remember why this was not implemented and why we can’t have it. I asked about this years ago and do not remember getting a dev response for this.

maybe its my brain getting old.

I’m not sure why either unless implementing it would require more memory on the server-side (excuse my terminology, I’m not tech-savvy).

I would love the option to have a wall look like stone on the outside and wood on the inside, or have one wall have the same look on both sides for creativity’s sake.

Well, one thing to consider would be that if you could paint surfaces with textures then their DLC would become far less desirable…

Unless you could paint all the DLC parts, too.

I’m not sure about that. For example, I love the interior side of the Frontier wall, but the spikey bits on the outside do not look good when used inside. If I could have both sides look like the interior side, I’d use the Frontier walls a lot more from room division in builds.

I did think of a downside, however; Windows. A lot of windows would not match up if each side were different than the intended building piece.

Sure there are memory costs, and 9 year old consoles have problems as it is. But likely the reason of “why it’s not there” is, priorities.

Funcom has a million people asking for a million things all the time. You can’t have everything. I know this from personal experience with a todo list that would take me 3 years to complete with all my mods because people are never happy and always want more more more more and more.

@Multigun
2 sided blade on a game that you can actually do more and more and more :man_shrugging:. I am not lucky to experience your mods, grabbing once again the chance to thank you and all the moders for your stunning work, I see it on YouTube and I envy it.
@Stone-Spear I wouldn’t like to paint wall really for some reasons.
The building pieces we have to build are traditional or Mastercraft pieces that have traditional building ways, carving or drawing, so paint on them would be heresy. Simple words we have no blastered walls so we can paint on them :man_shrugging:, other that that if we had this would be a heresy too .
What you could paint however that this could follow a traditional line is the doors and windows (if we had any). However back then what people was doing to preserve the wooden parts was to resin them, not paint them.
I do believe that a moder can deal with this and see the outcome, yet I wouldn’t like it on vanilla game.
However this is my opinion, it doesn’t have to be the correct ot right one, just my opinion, nothing else.

Its possible. Use the new pythagoras mod.

I’m aware of the mod, I’m speaking of this ability to be on official servers.

You didn´t mention officials with any words in your posts. You just repeatedly said you wish for this option and like I said there is an option to do that. Not everything can and should be implemented in the game. A lot of players want a lot of different things. Thats why mods exist. They take the pressure of the game and offer things that you can use to extend your gameplay with.

Bring it down a notch. It is okay for people to post wants. Part of the whole forum thing. How would funcom know how wanted something is if no one posted a wish list? They help FC if that wish is among many.

At first, I thought you were trying to be helpful.

Mods are not even on Xbox or Playstation. Those players can request features they’d like to see added to this Forum. Funcom even stated in a Devstream last fall that consoles have the short end of the stick by not being able to use mods and asked specifically for suggestions to be posted.

Yeah, I’m sure there are exceptions and there would still be folks who wanted everything. But consider the painter who has 900 tubes of paint compared to the one who has only 5. Which one is more likely to buy more paints when they’re at the art supply depot next?

Anyway, I have no idea why they didn’t or if they’re planning to in 3.0 or whatever… It was just one thought. I know if I were the designer there would be no way you could get me on board with it. Not only the sales thing but I would want my artist’s contributions to be as meaningful as possible and paintable textures would negate a lot of that IMO. Now if it were dye colors… sure, maybe…

And does that mod even do this at all? By reading the page and the change log it looks like not only that it doesn’t but also that it’s a buggy mess - or at least used to be…

That’s understandable.

When I first saw the mod, it was on Pixelcave’s channel, he made a video for it. If you have not seen it I will post it here in case, the video explains it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R5IIFrXdZVA

I used the mod when it came out and enjoyed it, but then it bugged for a bit or something happened in my single-player game and I lost the build I made with it, now I wish I took screencaps because it allowed me to make really cool looking windows. But in short, no, the mod doesn’t let you “paint” it lets you double up on walls so you can have one look on one side and a different look on the other. Sorry for the ramble, I can’t explain in type form very well.

Ah, thanks man!

Emberlight mentioned in the video, sounds more like what you were talking about. I dunno…

A few of the things shown in that video should have been in the game from the start - or at least added in the first year of it’s life - mainly support beams that aren’t merely cosmetic - probably the rotations too. Oh well.

Anytime!

I’m like 99,999% sure that support beams would not be a good idea to have reasonable builds.

Yeah, you’re thinking about the ToS, right?

I was thinking about the proper functionality of the building system.

As it is now the ToS can and already is, violated by almost everyone with a base… So IMO, that’s kinda moot. But for how the building system should operate (optimally) it desperately needs to be debugged and updated. One such update could include functional support beams. They don’t need to be infinite like that mod is offering tho - obviously…

Guess you are the expert on my mod. Totally a buggy mess (heavily rolls eyes).

Good ole Conan community, always so supportive of mod creators…

What do you expect otherwise? For two meshes to merge together and magically and seamlessly form a new mesh with the desired inside and outside?
