I am running a Conan Exiles dedicated server that is consistently filled with 40/40 players. Unfortunately, I am facing an issue with very high ping, ranging from 200 to 300. When I increase the player limit to 60, the ping shoots up to 500-700. In comparison, there are other servers with 70/70 players that only experience a ping of 100-150.
Interestingly, with around 30/40 players, the ping on my server is still good, staying between 100 and 150. However, as soon as I reach full capacity at 40/40, the ping spikes significantly.
I know that this is not a hardware issue, as I am using the same hardware as these other servers with better ping. It seems like they have figured out a configuration to solve this, but they are not sharing the details.
I am reaching out to the community here for help. Are there any specific settings I can change to reduce the ping and optimize performance? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!
Hey GargleBlaster , thanks for the link! We’ve already tried most of those optimizations, but the ping issue persists with 40/40 players. We suspect it might be due to certain configurations we’ve overlooked or a combination of settings affecting the ping.
Surely these are certain combinations of settings, I would primarily look at the data throughput and the packet size. From my experience, I have left the tick rate at 30.
And the question is how much data throughput your server hoster allows, some have restrictions.
I’ve noticed that the ping increases by around 10-30 with each additional player joining the server. For example, at 30/40 players, the ping is around 150, but as soon as it reaches 31/40, it jumps to 170, and so on.
Additionally, after the daily restart at around 6 PM, I experience a good ping of approximately 150 with 30/40 players right after the restart. However, within about an hour, even with the same number of players, the ping gradually increases to 250-300.
