THE LONG GAME IS BACK
Silk, Steel & Sorcery · 18+ PvE · 45.23.89.60:7777
We have been off the public board since August 18. That time was not spent waiting for someone else to fix things.
The August update and resulting server corruption forced us to answer the question every long-term server eventually faces: can the world survive when the easy recovery fails?
We performed a full world transplant into a clean Conan installation and preserved approximately 98% of our player-owned assets. Characters, builds, followers and the world players invested in were carried forward instead of being casually wiped. It was not painless, but it worked—and we now have a tested recovery path instead of a backup plan that only looks good on paper.
A server is easy to operate when nothing goes wrong. Ours has now completed the sea trial after something did.
While rebuilding, we also:
• Reduced the stack from 45 mods to 38 deliberate choices, removing outdated, redundant and unsupported weight.
• Added AGmods Building Materials, Desert Town Enhanced, Cloth Door, Aquilonian Females and Tot Admin.
• Returned Primal Instincts to the stack after comparison testing.
• Rebuilt the dedicated-server installation from clean files rather than trusting damaged leftovers.
• Tested clean-map baselines, restored-world booting, database integrity, player joins, authentication, inventory activity, sustained load, mod ordering and repeated restart cycles.
• Forced live Workshop updates through the complete recovery process and verified every copied mod by hash.
The server now has a full automated recovery and maintenance system. Before an update touches the world, it creates and verifies a database recovery point. It validates Conan, refreshes the Workshop, replaces the mod set from a clean staged copy, confirms all 38 mods, starts the world and proves that the process, game port, query port and map are actually ready.
Updates also respect the people playing. If players are online, scheduled maintenance waits for a safe window or skips instead of kicking everyone out because a timer said so.
Behind that is continuous monitoring of server ticks, CPU headroom, memory, player activity, backups, mod releases, Steam build changes and startup failures. If the server goes down or a package changes, the system knows the difference between “needs attention” and “start smashing restart buttons.”
This does not mean we are pretending Conan, or the mod stack we’ve selected, can never break again. It means we have already recovered from the kind of failure that kills most private worlds, learned from it and built an SOP to do better next time.
The Long Game remains what it was intended to be: one privately owned, purpose-built machine; one persistent Conan world; adult content without adolescent behavior; meaningful building, defense, exploration, purges and progression; and an owner committed to keeping the world alive for the people who invest in it.
Old hands: much of what you built is still waiting for you.
New blood: the gates are open.
