So, how did you find out about Conan Exiles? I found out about CE from Spytle, a former community manager from DC Universe Online. He had a love/hate relationship with the game but I ended up falling in love with it. Intrigued by the combat, the world, the building, everything. My first experience with the Conan world.
I saw it when it was free on PS4. Was hesitant downloading it and i think i did 2 days before the free download was gone. Now i cant stop playing it. Playing on a PVP and a Private only for building. Awsome game.
It’s been a couple years so I’m not sure on the details of how, but I found out it was being made through Age of Conan, which I’d just started getting into not long before the first CE dev stream. Then I bought it when it hit Early Access, and then a few months after that I upgraded my computer’s graphics card so I could actually play it.
I backed the Conan boardgame by Monolith, and when I got my game it included a printed ad telling about a new survival game set in the Hyborian Age, coming soon to Early Access.
I’ve been a fan of Conan-related stuff for a long time now. The board game is great, but I still haven’t managed to paint all the miniatures included. One reason for that is the 1200+ hours spent on this computer game instead of at my painting desk…
I discovered Conan Exiles by looking through available games on Steam (searching by genre). It was listed as Early Access, which made me hesitant. But the description, tags, reviews, and so forth all seemed to point to the kind of game I was looking for.
It may have been a newsletter as I used to play Age of Conan back in the day, and still got the occasional (bloodstained and torn) note from there, I don’t really remember any more. This was back before CE even launched in Early Access after all, when the first videos dropped (the one with the Avatars in stuck out especially).
But… My favorite barbarian, build-your-own city(!), wanton destruction, I mean… what was not to like? Okay the Early Access tag was a bummer (I am not a fan of the EA concept, to put it mildly), but everything else sounded amazing.
I basically just stumbled across it when browsing Steam while it was in Early Access (I had a decent PC back then, and luckily have another one now.), and thought to myself “Why not give it a shot?”, and ended up enjoying it.
I started playing on the infamous Halloween event ( which I loved! )
I saw the sale and thought that fits into the budget, but wait its a survival game…
Did some research and got scared of all the greefing happening in these types of games, I am an avid ARPG(all Diablo’s, Torchlight, Titan Quest, Grim dawn, Elder scrolls…) gamer and survival was all new to me.
But the urge to explore and build in a world of one of my top 10 movies (1984 Conan the Barbarian ) got the better of me and just before the sale was over I bit the blade and bought it.
One of the best buys of my life!
I read about it in a computer games journal and was intrigued. Normally, survival games are not my forte, but I really like CE.
Was busy tanking, and watching The Mighty Jingels on youtube on the off time. He had a Conan video, bought the game 10 min after. And uninstallled Wot for the time being.
2 friends convinced me… One is still playing after some big patches. The other one is more a single-player guy. He plays many games (ever AAA and also many others), but mostly single-player. He is without a doubt the worst team-playing guy you ever see
Has no clue about deep mechanics, cannot follow commands and wants to lead
Sometimes we were even 5 people online… But they like to play their FIFA 3000 and CoD5000 more… Was never a fan of this series, as I am mostly a PC player and cannot aim with a fliping controller
I had a friend who played this game with me…once. A year and a half after I bought it for him.
I don’t try to play games with him anymore.
First time I saw this game, it was a video of Criken2 (where the RP was hiralious Grund
). After seeing this video, my best friend was really hyped about the game and bought it. Being short on money to spent, i waited some time for a discount that came a few days later. Now Conan is ma game ! (But I’m still not able to buy dlcs
)
I watched some big streamers play it during the Early access launch, around January 2017, I think? (Giantwaffle, Shortyguy, Timmac, etc.) and they were a bunch and seemed to be having genuine fun with it… so I bought it… also, being a Conan-style stories fan made my decision easier.
Also, boobies… (no kidding,) at that time I thought that any developer having the balls to make a game where full nudity was an option needed to be rewarded, and I still think that way… so few developers take that risk.
Heard about it back in february 2016, while I was active in Age of Conan.
Was hyped immedieately and banded together with a few others to create one of the first RP communities for CE
This is what I magined it would be like, back then
