How to clear the server of non-playing player databases. Offer

We all know that now a lot of space on the server is occupied by the bases of players who have already played enough of Conan, but they feel sorry for all the goods obtained through back-breaking labor, so they log in once every 10 days and simply maintain their buildings.

I suggest that developers make it possible for players who temporarily do not want to play to save the database on the local computer.

I’m not a programmer and I don’t know how difficult this process is, but I think many people will want to save their beautiful buildings in this way, on which they spent so much time in the game.

I would also suggest the reverse process - returning to the official server what was previously saved on the local one, but I’m afraid there may be errors and abuses. Therefore, I leave this question open.

What do you think about this?

I’m sure there are some people who do what you’re describing, but there’s a much larger group that keeps their base alive so they can try out new content whenever a new patch or change is released. They don’t want to have to start over from scratch when new stuff comes out, they want to be able to experience the new stuff using their existing base and their existing progress. This larger group won’t be satisfied with exporting the server for their singele-player game. If they wanted to play single-player they would already be playing single-player.

The problem is that if FC did this with servers that are still live, being used in the game, then there would be players who use these downloads to essentially cheat. They would use the map in their single-player game to analyse the bases of other tribes. Obviously this matters more in PvP than in PvE, but the fact that it would give people information that they’re not supposed to have about other tribes means it’s not a good idea for the game.

The process isn’t difficult, FC does it all the time when they back up servers. Creating a save file that people can download is easy, but unfortunatly it wouldn’t really benefit the game.

You’re right. There would be so many errors that it’s pretty much impossible.

This is how it would go:

Your tribe builds on a really good location and they build a really nice base. Now your tribe wants to become inactive and they get a save file of the game. A year from now they want to get back into the game and they ask FunCom to restore that save file so they can have their base back. But during that year a whole bunch of stuff has happened in the game, other people have built in the same area, game mechanics have changed, etc. There would be so many differences and changes that trying to restore your base would cause tons of problems for other people who are still on the server and very likely would wreck your base in the process, you’d be lucky if 3/4 of your base didn’t collapse and have a bunch of dead thralls during the restore process.

Your heart is in the right place, the goal that you’re trying to accomplish is understandable, unfortunately this solution creates more problems than it solves. The only time it makes sense for a game to allow people to download a copy of their server is when that server is about to get shut down permanently.

Everything that @Pipinghot says.
Impractical, but well meant.

The Decay system obviously, as stated, eliminates abandoned bases and followers. Players that pop on and off to keep their bases going are effectively still playing. They may just be also playing other games out there at the time and still love Conan Exiles.

I have several players on my servers that play multiple games and do the same. Server rules apply regarding months of no-play, but it is a thing.

Players can always just play solo. Or they can play cooperatively, or on privately rented and administered servers. There are many options.

The large Funcom servers for Conan can manage a lot of throughput. Their Decay eliminates abandoned content. On Pvp, other players can pillage and raid other player bases, and certainly abandoned bases. The only thing I would like to add to that is that, for abandoned bases, other players should be abel to salvage building pieces too. Thay would inspire thhe other server players to just go and dismantle abandoned bases and get the components.

Btw, nothing stopping you using those abandoned bases you have on the server you play on as target practice for honing your trebuchet practice?

I also play on other servers. For example, I hop between my main EL, my Siptah, and an alt EL… sometimes months at a time for each. However, I refresh all three of them twice a week.

Exactly, hopping between the servers maintains your content. Makes sense.
Lost all my thralls and pets (except one kitty cat…) when I went on holiday.
I stopped playing one of the undead killing games for many months and then found out the save got corrupted by one of the several updates since then - like @Morticia says above
