What is onyx?
You mean obsidian? You have to go into the volcano, jump down in the Wrll of Skelos, and after teleport go to the forge. You will see it, because 3-4 lava streams flow in the air towards it.

As @rolee9309 indicated, it is in the Volcano area in the Well of Skelos. You will need obsidian and steel to make composite obsidian.

An alternative is to fight a bunch of NPCs in the volcano, level your thrall, and put any obsidian weapons in a dismantling bench.
