Admittedly, I’d like more tweaking on the new dodge as I don’t think there is enough variance between armor types, and it could still be a more interesting and balanced mechanic. But there was no question the old dodge was goofy as all hell. Even though I speak from a PvE standpoint and the dodge is even less important, I fully understand adjusting it from what it was.
The problem was the momentum change, and what all my references have been about. I don’t mind where it currently is. I can still feel and see the momentum. But isn’t at a crippling state anymore.
I did like the freedom and agility of the old system for wall climbing/jumping. However, at least with the adjustments, some of that was still maintained and the freedom to flexibly traverse the map was given back to the player.
Dodge needed changing. It still needs adjustments.
The momentum change came in far far too heavy handed, and wasn’t needed (save for the horses). It was also a game defining change on a long released game. Which bluntly speaking, is a betrayal to the people who purchased the game. Its reasonable at the current level and if they do get to setting many of these major changes as server admin options, then none of this would be an issue.
But the momentum change as it was introduced, or set any harsher then it currently is without option was just not acceptable. Maybe if it was always that way, that Conan was defined by ridged movement initially, it’d have been fine. However, myself, and I imagine many others, would not have purchased and invested ourselves in the game. You can’t make such a significant change in a game… going into season 3…
Make a new game, don’t screw over an existing one.
Hi there @FrogBiscuit. I wasnt originally going to get involved in this thread, but I failed to exercise self-restraint. The reason being that while I still dislike and oppose the Momentum system, I have now debated it ad nauseum. And also as a ps4 player, I have yet to see how the game plays after the re-adjustment patch. So I am waiting until then to see how it now feels.
I agree with you FrogBiscuit. The Polls give a reasonably accurate indication of player sentiment. I also see some parallels here between how the fanbase has responded, and real life politics. Much of the time the silent majority remain just that, and stay out of politics. However, every now and then a change takes place which incenses people to such a degree that they feel compeled to spring into action. I believe that this is one such instance. They decided to completely change a tried, tested and responsive movement system which we had for 1.5 years, to “make certain weapons more viable for PvP”. However, it was done to the detriment of Singleplayers, Solo players and newer players, while proving unpopular with a large section of the PvP playerbase.
I genuinely believe that this was the case. The ‘challenge’ it presented is manufactured. Yes challenge can be derived from turning look sensivity right DOWN and locking it there, or by having the screen periodically go black, or reducing player acceleration by a further 85%. To me it would be no different than if we held a boxing match, but made only one boxer wear a backpack full of weights during the bout. Challenge should lie in fighting and overcoming the opponent, not overcoming movement restrictions, penalties and handicaps. I ask any readers, would you like to see this Momentum system in Skyrim!? I know I certainly wouldnt.
I am right there with you, but admittedly have been enjoying the adjustments as a PC player.
I wish you the best in the adjustments coming your way as soon as possible after holidays. IMO, the game has to get them, and its to bad Funcom can’t push console changes as fast as PC. All that Sony and Microsoft regulation BS I am sure.
The challenge argument I find amusing, yet depressing as people are seriously trying to use such a silly argument for keeping a poor mechanic (well, in PC case, adjusting it back).
Funcom could also add a mandatory single button presses for each step of our thrall. Boy, that would make combat more challenging as well. How about a nice long drawn out animation for sheathing and unsheathing our weapons? How about a 5 second delay after every button press? That’ll keep players on their toes…
People are mistaking tedium for challenge when they are not remotely the same thing.
Besides, I have yet to hear a reasonable answer as to how a system, one that every single player is subjected to, makes the game more challenging anyways (at least in the PvP context). You both get slowed… So, how it that any more challenging then before? Both players are just slower?
Anyways… I don’t know. I shouldn’t have probably got involved as well considering I have beat this dead horse on my own to an embarrassing amount, there’s just a few arguments that when I see, I sort of want to dig my eyes out in frustration.
‘Hobbling mechanics = a more challenging game’ is one of them and the arguments for why polls favor the side of the poll that polled at low %s for some illogical reason is another…
The problem is people want to justify their point, regardless the actual reality.
People that agree with poll results will use it as doctrine as if they are the overwhelming majority.
People that disagree with poll results will default to denying its value.
People that use logic understand exactly what a poll is and understand what it represents and the purpose of them. There is simply no way to ask everyone their thoughts, however, having a sample of a groups thoughts is better then flying blind.
Its not that a poll isn’t valuable. Its just some people need to be careful about not blowing the results out of proportion, no matter the direction they lean.
I used to use the „sonic roll“ to catch and kill running players.
That’s not possible anymore.
They changed the pace of the game for me. Basically nerfed my fighting style way too much. I stopped playing Conan right after release of the horse update.
Lol I’m on console so we have the old neelw momentum and Dodge. I spanked some pvp raiders last night while they tried the old doge roll tactics. I’ve always worn heavy armor and am quite good at the soulsborne games so forcing people into my arena by eliminating the Sonic the hedgehog Dodge roll really made this game fun for me!
I agree one million percent! Now while people spastically roll around trying to flee you can time your attacks and keep the fight going. Now you have to pick your fights wisely!
I was hesitant to like the new mechanics, but after a few conflicts I grew to love it. Now if they could fix the invincible lag dummy that I find myself pummeling time to time rather than the actual player things would be great hahaha!
