Lovecraft didn’t stress over using appropriate words. He just used whichever words he liked that looked good in the sentence, dictionary definitions be damned.
For a linguist such as myself, that approaches the concept of abomination.
And yet his style is incredibly hard to mimic with any real accuracy, just my opinion. Still the only bodies of fiction that have been able to captivate me.
I remember speaking with the English teacher of my children, saying to her the “gaming words” we use and her hair rized…
She said, I forbid you to use these English on my students (my children)

So if you are a linguist, I believe you will feel a bit the same here.
In any case my opinion is simple, first learn the correct use of words, to be able to fix correct sentences and then do as you wish. We must not forget that all the great writers and poets of the past created their own “language”
So today we live the evolution of gaming producers that creating their own “language” too.
All these evolutions lasted only because humanity accept it, embrace it and use it as main “language”
I find this fascinating, and I suspect you’re being uncharacteristically solipsistic to engineer another metaphoric abomination. Good show!^ To me you’ve always come across as merry with the mutations of language.
Lovecraft wages war with the lexicon much like HR Giger attacks the eyeball: they read Song of Myself in high school and decided to just let that freak flag fly. I mean, at what point did the crusties allow “yawp” into the dictionary? Or let people use scud that way?
In journo school they taught us the dictionary was complete, damn the neologisms. When the tides turned in the 90s, all Style Guides went out the window, and now we turnt. These days, common usage will overlap the actual meaning, and “on the down-low” no longer means the original definition, and broadly means “on the QT.” We already had on the QT, or keep a lid on it, but now the meanings are drifting all over.
That said, my regular audible abomination: hearken/harken back.
