I’m getting absolutely sick of this BUFF THE THRALLS

Thralls are mostly useless in PvP and recently after spending some time playing palworld I feel like Funcom could take notes and inspiration on howto make followers far more useful by doing autonomous tasks etc without much player input.

Funcom needs to buff defensive thralls at bases (only bases) which can patrol areas, sound alarms, man balista turrets or shoot arrows effectively through slots(windows). Raiding a big t3 base should be a drawn out siege not a 5 to 10 minute deal. Every defensive thrall should be more than a 30 second speed bump. Raiders should be forced to build trebuchets and plan to spend time sieging a castle. People spend more time talking ■■■■ about easy raids than putting in effort. Thralls need better AI at the very least

You’ve never online raided someone using a repair hammer and construction hammer have you?

If they have a vault full of building mats, you will see a realistic siege time of months.

That’s a simple fix, disable building for a few minutes in the vicinity of recent PvP damage. I’ve been on both sides of raids but defenders absolutely should have an advantage though I agree slamming foundations down during a raid is BS cheese too

True! And plenty other reasons that authority won’t be enough.
Like you i don’t really care if they die, years now.
I don’t care if they need hours, a day or a month to lvl up.
But tbh, i am a bit disappointed with thralls as they are right now. And i am not speaking for their hp, or their dmg outcome, but their general behavior, it’s more or less a little mess. Too many collisions, plural bugged behavior and almost zero awesomeness from them in fights.
Again!
I would like to see thralls, rare thralls to have something different, awesome on them and feel rewarded that i risked to get them, or i grind like crazy to have them.
Hunting thralls it’s not rewarding anymore.
Lvling thralls leads to be not rewarding either, especially that we still have “idiotic unnecessary” balance perks.
They can start from fixing their behavior and give me the ability to target on perks. Rng is not necessary to them anymore, we need to have the control of their perks.
Higher “targets” better perks
Expensive religious foods to target on stats.
The next age has to be something with thralls and pets.
For now? Frost giants seem to be really pleasant, since colossal snakes got nerfed .
Look how it went my friend, the most stupid follower became my best, go figure.
So that means they are capable for literally everything. They can turn the tides as they wish.
We just need to play an give feedback i guess, the rest is their business, as always.

Once i had a frost giant and a cannibal brute with me in the war maker dungeon.
And i wasn’t sure if Arena campion would be worth the risk.
But it worked out just fine, frost giant was knocking her over while my brute was melting her.
She wasn’t able to do anything! I was very surprised.

I run solo all the time- i lose thralls when im not paying attention.

Ive lost MAYBE 20 thralls in 3 years since i started on officials.

Do what you want Funcom - buffing thralls wont save lack on knowledge on how they work or fight.

This.
I even perform better when I don’t have to worry about the mtfkr!
Always checking the bugger to see if it needs pampering! Tedious!

We agree!

We disagree!
There’s no lack of knowledge of how they work and anyone eho believes that is either ignorant or fool.
There’s simply…

Don’t ever underestimate your fellow exiles, don’t simply read plainly. Try to understand the general thoughts and feelings. We all give feedback for one reason, to make the game better, no other.

Play pvp and loose 20 per day.
Delete your base and loose a hundred.
So i’ve “lost” 10.000 thralls the last 5 years, what’s the point here, what’s the conversation?

Don’t mind @Akomo , @stelagel .
He’s the typical chest thumper , but he loves the game.

It wasn’t that they used those thralls. It was, as I said:

In other words, “skill” - a concept some people already question when it comes to this game - becomes obsolete when you can have an in-game feature solve problems for you. So those players who have invested in gaining “skill” feel that their investment has been for nothing if it can be replaced by capturing a follower.

Perhaps we could focus more on what we want our thralls to do, and then determine whether they’re good enough for that role.

  • Do we want them to be able to defeat any opponent for the player, without the player lifting a finger to help? If yes, then the thralls do need to be stronger. A lot, because they’re idiots.
  • Do we want them to be able to defend an offline base against PvPers? I’m not sure if that’s even possible just by improving stats, because they’re idiots. Maybe if they were made immortal.
  • Do we want them to be able to assist (rather than replace) players in (PvE) combat, without needing constant baby-sitting and danger of dying? Wimpier thralls would probably benefit from a buff to their health here.

So, where do we want thralls to be?

Well, it’s true. But there’s a certain satisfaction derived from soloing content.
In the old days, but not the oldest, you had some thralls that were basically immortal. They could solve anything, even if the game bugged out. I had a lot of those, carefully selected, leveled and geared up. Skill was being able to capture them within a crowd, and doing all that. When I was bored, I simply wouldn’t take them with me. If I was farming a dungeon, where you need to speed things due to rng, they were super usefull, low maintenance followers. I could have the best if both worlds.
Now, weaker thralls. I also find stimulating aspects about having them. It’s more important than ever to select and level them closely, unless they are destined to the purge meat grinder.
But it gets old fast, you see? It’s a painstaking process, plus it doesn’t really pay, since you can still easily lose a carefully selected thrall due to a few seconds of lack of attention, to a lmid level small mob. It desincentivizes you from repeating the process. High stakes, high rewards works very well in games, but a situation of high stakes, low rewards doesn’t, and that’s the reason most people complain.
Let’s not firget the diversity we lose regarding viable thralls. Having you seen the sheer richbess of thralls the games has that we never get to use? It’s a real shame. We end up reduced to zerker and zerker like thralls, sonce tge others will easily perish. Something should be done about that.

Anyway, I can perfectly live with thralls as they are, as long as infinite stunlock goes. That’s the worse problem. That and pathfinding in crowded places. These are the thrall kilkers. Solve that and they are good enough. The high hp if thralls only setves to make up for a bad AI. A safety buffer for screw ups. Get rid of the screw ups and you can safely ditch the buffer. Level thralls for other attributes than health even, something unwise at the present.

Your three questions are intertwined. If you have a thrall you don’t need to babysit, he will do all of the above.
So, let’s take in consideration the concept of balance like @Xevyr puts it.
You can’t have a thrall so strong that it solis everything. It’s not something that I necessarily agree, but I can understand the concept and its validity.
I don’t want to leave less skilled players locked out of content. How can we reconcile these two factors. Make them deppending of the player build. If your build is thrall oriented, take it a step further. Don’t detract from combat abilities, as these players are those who need them the most, but inflict other penalties. Make them much more sensible to temperature, hunger and thirst. They can only feed on complex meals, the others barely nurturing. Alcohol ravages them. Cold or heat kills them fast. Potions inflict status effects or they have a coldown period. Make that choice permanent. If you choose that build, potion if bestial memory has no effect on you. It becomes serious. But you have a high stakes, high reward situation.

Sorry about the typos. You know the reason already. :beers:

Just adding a little thing, @Kapoteeni .
I think the way the authority skill is devised is not fair. Why?
Because you keep favoring those who can fight, not those who can’t and need the best possible thralls.
If I make an authority build, I can still solo the game. Add to that having one powerfull thrall or two. It’s a FU to less skilled players.
I think authority should imply knowledge of the game, not combat penalties. Even if a player has coordination issues, he can always learn the game. Learn to craft complex and adjusted food/drink and gear to overcome his penalties. Learn all about potions, etc. But don’t screw them further than they already are. The exchange should be with knowledge, not potential combat prowess, already their weakest trait. That would be fair.

I play on the official PVE server.
After the patch on January 16th, most new companions stopped losing agro during battle. A strange effect is that companions received before the patch still freeze in battle.
When all the companions normally participate in the battle, it cannot be said that they are too weak. To repel a level 10 purge, 8 level zero satellites are sufficient. The only thing I help them with is poison arrows.
But a new bug has appeared, sometimes companions “forget” which door they were standing at and after the end of the current skirmish they do not enter into a new one until you put him next to the door again. This happens three or four times per purge and you have to keep an eye on it.
I think the main problem is not that the satellites are weak. We need to improve their AI and eliminate bugs.

More or less this :point_up_2:.
The greatest issue this conversation hides is their bad performance and all this buggy behavior they have after the last patch.
The issues are many from little details to huge issues.
I have seen even before the update one thrall of mine to be wrecked from just another npc, my thrall was not reacting at all and the rest if my thralls do emotes like nothing is happening around.
Thralls NEED work. It’s like all the errors of the game been gathered to their mechanics.
If they perform correctly then we can speak for fine tuning.
Why these things are not happening to everyone?
I can’t say, but it doesn’t have to do with skills, or exaggerating, or lies.
And again, it’s not their standard behavior, but it happens so often now that it could be considered as standard .
Thanks for your feedback :metal:.

Based on the bug reports, there appears to be a bug related to smart sockets… so placing your thralls in chairs… or next to doors will cause them to freeze up if you later take them out to fight. Maybe that’s what you’re experiencing.

To prevent that just take them out of the smart sockets on chairs or doors first by placing them on guard on proper ground, instead of snapping them to any smart objects and only have them follow you afterwards.

People cheat- its why i dont play PvP on officials

It’s very true my friend. The worst part in pvp is that the game had and have decades of “windows” for cheaters to use and cheat or “outplay” others with standard mechanics .
Even in pve people find ways to harm each other.
Trolls everywhere…
So be it.
If you find happiness on pve, like i do anyway the last 3 years, there’s not a reason to go pvp. But if you ever find some good fellows that want to pvp for fun, join them for awhile , as long as you all start from zero. “Pvp clan” is an experience you deserve to have, little bees working to defeat time before everything else. From the bottom of my heart i wish you this experience. “Do not avoid to fall in love because of divorce”.
A pleasure my friend :metal:

Interesting !

I never place them in chairs maybe thats why i havent experienced such issues.

Still should be fixed though

I had that bug with some crazy effects, like the thrall sitting mid air inside a dungeon. Fortunately it snaped out of it. Other was going to a fixed location with no apparent reason! Today was a bug fest, but without nasty consequences beyond a few laughs. Now I know what’s causing the problem. It’s very cool placing them on chairs, doors, etc. I hope there’s more to come.
Even with these bugs, the game is performing much better on the ps5, with a perfectly tolerable texture rending. I don’t know what it was that they’ve done, but I am enjoying the game as I didn’t for a long time. To me, texture rendering is a deal breaker. As things finally seem stable, I bought the BP.

Damn I missed a lot lol speaking of bs my thrall the other day fighting the arena boss got sucked into a wall and wouldn’t get out and couldn’t attack and the champion killed it. Then the game proceeded to lag me into a mace swing which killed me. This was right after my thrall absolutely destroyed the champion and didn’t let her get a single hit off. What went from farming armor scraps turned into the literal worst case scenario.
