The problem with just blowing doors and containers is you can build bases with no doors, thus can’t get in. When you are online, you remove a wall, replace it when you leave. When you return same thing.
And what motivates players now? boredom. Not in game but in life. they play 10 hours a day and feel they somehow prove something by blowing up offline players. That is why there is so much exploiting and greifing. The mental make up of the PVP base is mainly trolls and people who do not want fair or balanced mechanics (that is why they exploit, easy route). They want ways to feel powerful without any effort outside of mindless grinding, and any change to that structure scares them because they know a larger player base on PVP means they will have to actually engage in true PVP not PvOffline.
Why can’t it simply be that some people are competitive and want to “win” against other people? It’s not just raiding, you know, you can see people like that on PVE-C servers, too.
On the PVE-C server where I’m playing right now, there’s a player that unironically describes herself as “the alpha of this server”. Her favorite pastimes include:
ganking people in the courtyard of their own bases
kiting Maelstrom monsters to destroy other clans’ bases
sitting outside a base to make sure that the (sub-level-60) players there have to either stay inside or die when they come out
And no, I’m not being salty and crying. I have had little problems with her – she even gives people’s gear back to them after killing them, sans sigils and eldarium. I know the risks of playing on a PVE-C server during PVP hours – hell, I play on PVE-C because I like those risks – and I’m not gonna complain about getting killed and looted. The only thing in that list I really hate is the kiting of Maelstrom monsters to destroy people’s bases, because that’s just griefing.
But the whole point of my rambling story here is that some people play Conan Exiles because they want to fight other players, and it doesn’t matter whether their idea of fighting matches their targets’ ideas of fighting. They want to “win”, and since Conan Exiles doesn’t define what “winning” means, they bring their own definition to the game and then play that way.
So maybe the fun isn’t necessarily in raiding itself, but in the accomplishment of having raided someone?
Ironically the word raid does not apply to raid servers. Most of the time it is how much can I wipe, because I already have the loot. Crafter thralls may be the only thing raided, but even those justvgo in chest at my base when we do clear stations. Because, getbyhisbi probably have 5 of each the thralls i just raided already from farming the 18 non raid hours.
This week we recently moved to 6401 and we have a clan on there that basically went through the mesh to get inside our T1 base to wipe our start. Every night since they do the same thing.
That’s the kind of blind mentality you can deal with to to kill off a clan as they start out … talking to other established clans on the server they differ … they have an unwritten rule to not touch base until it’s t3 and looks established…
Clans are regulating their behaviours on their own in different ways but the more mature ones agree upfront that over feeding leads to dead servers. So you wait until the victims can at least defend themselves.
Flaw in this plan still is that a clan that just upgrades to t3 won’t have the same resources that a clan which has weeks of established existence.
Would a wipe change this? Sure first two weeks if you fail to get on the wipe wave you will be behind … but problem will come back.
To me, offline raiding requires little to no true skill beyond dragon powder production. It’s just a case of hit TAB, wait for timers to go down then hit them.
There is a setting in the servers to enable certain periods for when a player logs out and damage to buildings etc … it’s not turned on in official servers … would love to see this enabled to see how this adjusts all of the above behaviours
This would only serve to reduce the number of total players playing Conan Exiles. There is room for all 3 types of play. Forcing others to only play how you would like to play makes absolutely no sense. If you do not like PVE the answer is simple, do not play on a PVE server.
