Hey there,
I just wanted to start by saying that I absolutely love this game! I’ve got almost 2000 hours in and I’m still having tons of fun.
I read somewhere that the sorcery mechanic was taking the back burner for now and that it wasn’t clear how it would look. I’ve got some ideas for you using mechanics that are already in the game. Tell me what you think.
First of all we add two potions to the cauldron: Something that “surrenders you to the corruption” and “something that saves you from the corruption”. When your character has received maximum corruption from the world, consuming the ‘surrender’ potion will change you into a sorcerer. As a sorcerer, if you would prefer to return to a warrior then the ‘save’ potion can be consumed to do so.
Once your character has become a sorcerer new feats will be learned. A sorcerer’s table naturally! As a warrior you have a weapon on your hot bar that your character will take out to fight with once selecting that particular hot bar slot. As a sorcerer the hot bar can also be used to take out bone charms or focus’ or trinkets of some kind, what have you, (I’ll leave the lore to the experts!) and each charm will allow the sorcerer to perform certain magic. For example, one charm will allow the sorcerer to fight with fire while the next one will grant access to poison. The player can quickly swap between charms to allow for a small plethora of magic casts. As the warrior has combinations with their weapons, the sorcerer can too have combinations with their charms. The fire charm has both light and heavy moves that can be combined. All charms can be crafted at the sorcerer’s table.
Your stamina bar will deplete when casting spells the same as it would if you were swinging an axe. Once the stamina runs out so does your ability to cast until the stamina comes back. As for the trait tree, Survival would be the trait that empowers your sorcerer. Since it is a measure of how your character can endure the elements it makes sense in a small way. What greater element then dark magic, right? Also, it will force the player to build their characters in a very different way than the typical strength builds for warriors.
Additional to the charms, the sorcerer can also craft sorcerer weapons and light armor that are only functional for a sorcerer. For example, at the sorcerer’s table a sword can be crafted that simply looks like a few bones held together with twine. But in the hands of a sorcerer the bones become imbued with dark sorcery and the creation turns into a sweet looking weapon. The sorcerer can only create light armor to even the odds a bit while fighting warriors. It makes sense as well because a sorcerer’s power is in the magic not the muscle.
DLCs can be made which allow your sorcerer to focus different energies or what have you and change the look of their weapons and armor. Also if we were really getting insane here we could introduce the sorcerer’s ability to morph into things like half man/half animals and fight with a new set of moves on your hot bar while your stamina bar continually runs out. The sorcerer would change back once the bar is depleted. And of course, the sorcerer wouldn’t need to run or walk. They would float inches off the ground at the same speed as running or walking burning the same amount of stamina.
Anyway, I hope you’ve enjoyed my ideas here! Feel free to use none or all of them!
