good for you. enjoy your time in Atlas.
I for one ain’t going back to that mess.
When the winds of change comes, some people build walls. Others build windmills.
We are all fools and geniuses at the same time, for our dreams are our sanctuaries.
I just chose to have a larger scope, unfettered by the salt of others.
So I have one question for you? Did you come here to advertise Atlas or to help Conan Exiles become a better game without turning it into something which is never meant to be?
My purpose here is to argue within the semantics of the OP’s title and offer a new angle on why CE grows stale.
My argument is that CE’s content is too cosmetic in nature and could use some more game features.
In the old days game features are usually sold in form of expansion packs. Why the game industry has moved to microtransactions is because MTX is cheaper to produce.
This is what I came here for. And you?
Very well, what kind of features would you like to see in CE which would fit the theme and are not mounts/ships or dinos.
Permanent until death warpaints, vanity slot system, alliance system, container PINS, personal obilisk, Health regen being part of the base game vs. being perk, flawless Atlantean Sword, Pictish armor being cold resist instead of heat, triggerable purges, black ice based cosmetic tiles.
can you please elaborate how any of these features will help the game become more interesting.
Alliance system allows a PvE servers to develope community hotspots because it woudl allow allies to build within the claim radius of allies, thereby establishing settlements.
Container PINS allow for public trade.
Vanity slot adds value to the cosmetic DLCs and solves a lot of the problems associated with visual mismatch to temperature resistances.
Personal obilisks would solve the obilisk blocking problem.
Triggerable purges would make CE’s most compelling game mechanic more accessible to casuals increasing player retention rates.
Black ice cosmetic tiles would improve DLC sales.
Now, since you are clearly on the offensive, let me ask you the same question. Why are you here? To defend Funcom all day like I use to?
Think i’m here just to troll? Kid. I know CE. I love it. I live it. What makes you think i want to sink it?
It’s clear you have an emotional connection with CE. I know how you feel. Been there. But if you think that gives you the right to flag my honest posts, then I applaud you, because you might aswell have taken a highlighter because people are gonna be all the more interested in what’s hidden underneath.
I am helping you realize that your comments make no sense at all. You outline a problem of the new content being cosmetic and thus making the game stale and then proceed to request 10 new cosmetic features …
One idea out of 10 was good though, triggerable purges.
I’m suggesting them to make the best out of the trajectory they are taking.
It’s a better suggestion then most of the things people put out there.
Am i really the only one here who offers solutions?
It seems to me all people do here is question each other.
Don’t flatter yourself
If you read the comments you will notice that most people who took the time to reply shared what keeps them playing. Furthermore, I very much appreciate the work of the modders because they work on improving the game in areas where it is lacking which helps Funcom gather some feedback on what the community would like to see.
In addition, most of the quality suggestions are posted in the suggestions section of this forum. How many of them are viable is another story but people keep them coming.
EDIT: I went ahead and deleted my comments about Atlas as they were off-topic. I am sorry for going into that discussion in the first place.
Whenever I and friends kinda talks about what could make the world space more interesting than just visuals, I often land on puzzles, mysteries with more involving lore.
Perhaps locations with some lore tied to it in various ways.
There’s plenty of various ruins around that gets me wondering what their purpose once was. So far most of those places can feels so sterile in that regard.
I think CE would do good with a good mixture of brain and brawn.
So, we cleared the new dungeon, great job devs, that was fun and frustrated. Now the bread and butter… I’m still.confused, in face, we all are. Was the revamping of the cities to come in a later patch or was it only for PC? We have tebooted, reinstalled re updated 1.44, and we see.no revamp on.our PS4. Clue me in or has that ship sailed?
I’ve stayed out of this discussion because when it first posted, I was absolutely bored with this game and quite discouraged at the changes I saw with the testlive patch coming in (mainly new seemingly OP weapons and armor). But I must admit that I have been pleasantly surprised by this new patch and content. It absolutely CHANGED some things that some of us may assume is a bug, but I believe some of these are intended changes (thrall stamina drain and others i’m not talking about quite yet). So for now, I’m in, they got me hooked and the mystery is spectacular. In this same paragraph here, I’m not going deny there are some VERY broken things in this game right now. No further discuss because then this post is flagged.
@Narelle
I think what @Halcyon is saying has merit. It may be a bit long winded and hard to decipher, he is saying that the game will eventually stall out because it doesn’t have a new engaging mechaninc that hooks more casual gamers.
PVE–Any new mechanic always help this type, as most PVE players enjoy RP, the socializing, or just the escapism of farming and building. But their has been minimal PVE type materials that makes me want to play that style. Dungeons once beaten, are now just part of the farm cycle, and done as needed.
PVE-C–i think in reality, most of the patches are aimed at this group. Armor, Weapons, Dungeons (the loot is usually tied to…weapons and armor).
PVP–There has been no real change to this from day 1. The meta is build high, offline raid, and use your numbers and out farm for mats. No one really wins, as more that one side just gets bored of the hamster wheel wars. And any new OP content for fighting is now just added to the farming cycle. You do it because you have to, not because its exciting or gaming fun.
the truth hurts, but i do love this game, flaws and all. but at the same time, it became to easy to slip into the meta of PVP. Level up, blow up a base, do some light raiding using naked bombing if out numbered, then recycle until you get bored. There was no real reward for “winning” a war. No feeling of achievement, no feeling of awe when you log in. Just more of the same. And most people, more of the same is what they get waking up every morning for work. thus they leave, looking for something to remove them from reality, not replicate it.
I’m still bored… However, now I can the Gorilla and Chimpanzee. … I have a Yeti as a guard, like the Giant… sadly, they die fast due to low hp. Woukd be cool to be able to take 2 thrall or pet out with you, say an elephant and a rhino. The elephant for holding supplies and farming mats and d the rhino for defence. It’s a shame this concept isn’t there. Or, one human thrall for defence and 1 pet to carry your stuff. Nonetheless, I’ll be the guy farming his boredom to tears… with a pet Gorilla.
While going on an expedition with my friends, hunting giant squids with submarines (each submarine holding 3 people), exploring ancient Atlantean style cities in deep water trenches, I came to a realization.
I had a flashback to CE’s underwater dungeon, and smiled to my friends on discord, who I knew from CE: " Ya know what’s funny guys?.. I just realized. Atlas is going to have a sorcery system before CE does."
I just had to think of @narelle , cuz he/she will then understand what I mean.
These would be awesome for PvE servers, they really would allow for more community interaction as taverns could become trading posts and have actual shared camps.
I’d love this, but sadly the visual identification based PvP paradigm won’t allow for it.
This would actually be HUGE, at least on PvE. Right now, everyone clusters around the same popular thralling areas and obelisks while vast expanses of the world lay unutilized. I’d love to be able to build someplace new and beautiful that isn’t a royal PITA to return home to without removing my bracelet!
This would be a welcome change for a lot of folks. While the randomness of not knowing when I’m going to be attacked is part of the excitement, working 8-5, I barely have time to get home from work and get a bite to eat before I’m compelled to sit at my PC waiting for the purge to strike. It would be nice to have a bit better “work” / life balance with respect to the game, even at the cost of a bit of suspense.
So yes, once the meter passes threshold, and before overflow is maxed, it would be great to trigger the purge manually. Also, it would be nice if the meter didn’t deplete and clans who only refresh and never play suffered some repercussions.
I’d be down with that, but then I buy everything for both my accounts anyway, so probably not the best test example. ![]()
As for a few additional things that I think would help:
-
Seasonal Changes: I’m starting to suspect that the constant changes to populations, what thralls are capturable, etc. isn’t actually balancing, but rather Funcom testing out seasonal changes to keep us on our toes. If that’s the case, then it could be cool to expand on the idea. Have a caravan of raiders setup a temporary camps in the savannah, poaching big game for a couple months. Next month have the bandits from Sepermeru take over Shattered Springs or the Silver Mine…
-
More Tomb-Raidering! Seriously, the traps and such in the new dungeon are a really refreshing change compared to how Black Keep apparently got worked over by OSHA. It was so nice needing to keep my head on a swivel and made me actually feel like the rogue from my D&D party. Add more dungeons like this, and even include some climbing puzzles and some of the elements that made us love The Dregs.
-
I want a magical, flying castle dungeon somewhere. Let it appear in the skies in a random location with each server reboot (perhaps visible only with a special item), and let us have to capture or befriend a unique pet to fly us up there (teleport cutscene is fine). Let the dungeon have multiple different layouts and themes so you never know which one you’re going to get.

Once a base has decayed, make it into an NPC stronghold that others can assault. Have the thralls revert to being hostile NPCs, and give players a week or so to attack and loot it before it finally disappears on its own. This would give us PvE players a taste of PvP, and allow folks to setup cool dungeons and other PvE encounters for our fellow players.
It’s CE. That’s short code for boring and wimpy. PVP is the best you can do to prevent boring as fighting and attacks can happen at any time. Destruction has limits but everything else is game on.
On the Atlas forums, I make publicity for CE.
On the ARK forums i’m basically telling them how ARK could learn from CE’s fast loading bases and lagless servers because it’s so optimized.
U do not want to know what people think about CE on those forums. I.e. “People still play CE!?!”
I do this with all games forums, because I actually have the balls to weather the flak i get for that, but at the end of the day, games really could learn from one another.
It is what made WoW the most successful MMORPG in history.
When the wind of change comes, some people build walls. Others build windmills.
I understand that nobody responds to critique well especially when comparing apples to bubblegum.
But there’s a reason you have apple flavored bubblegum.
