Are we having another situation like the nemedian foundations or the mass thrall deletion like the last couple chapters?

Yeah, the game breaking bugs are never planned, they are just not adequately tested or they are ignored during Beta reports.
Is Chapter 4 safe to download?
If you play on official servers, you have no choice. You rolls the dice and takes the chances.
If you play solo or a private server, you can see the fallout of the update prior to making a decision.
In the last two updates, folks had incorrect account bans due to the way Crom Coins were purchased. That was horrid when it happened the first time and inexcusable when it happened again. There have been no specials on Crom Coins that I have seen prior to this update, so, we may be safe from that reoccurring situation.
But sync issues are still rampant in the beta, which require a constant log off and back on to resolve. Folks still spawn in foundations. There are a host of unresolved and reintroduced bugs.
Standard practice is a crapshoot since the code in Beta does not match the code in Live and the apparent plan is one of, “we hope this will go well!”
So, if Chapter 4 safe? We will not know until it releases and the reports begin.
If that seems like it is unacceptable, it is because it is unacceptable. Testing in live is rarely a good idea.

Just got it installed. Unfortunately, crash on load. Mod? Maybe, can’t tell. Great cosmic coincidence: new major expansion for NMS last week. Great time to hop off to some other planets and let the bugs on this one work themselves out.

haha - I backed it up and started a new game. Same error. Maybe a mod? Don’t care, I’m not debugging the issue. Do enough of that at my day job - which I need to get to now. Cheers!

It will take some time for all the mods to catch up. Some modders arent even awake yet.
Safe to download it. Logging in to play is a different question.

I’m in with no damage so far.
However the UI is tiny, (I’m blind as hell) and none of my armor is illusioned.

I just had my first crash fighting an NPC where my next attack mightve triggered the new stun animation…
(EDIT: I believe the Crassus mod is the cause for the fatality crash)
I haven’t noticed anything, but I wasn’t on for very long. Curiosity got the better of me and I logged into an official server to take a peek at some of the changes. Right off the bat I’m not a fan of the UI changes - very jarring. And I hate the no precise splitting - that alone may kill desire to play; what a hassle inventory is going to be. The check box for auto-face on attack is nice; too bad we had to wait a whole chapter for that 
Didn’t have the time to check combat or any event related stuff. Just checked in on the important stuff like base, benches, thralls (who were not buried, thankfully), and chests.
I dunno…I’ll give it a shot, but Enshrouded is starting to look better to me every day, even though it’s still in early access
