Exactly what the title says. I’m wondering because I’m leveling a new character and I’ve been standing idle for about 5 minutes while I make coffee and see in the screen that I suddenly just gain a level, doing nothing.

Yes, this one has noticed the same.
For extreme comedy, turn player XP gain rate all the way up and make a new character.
The ambient respiration of experience will bring you to level 60 in an hour, if even.
Sweet definitely helps at low level
I’ve made a new character, gone afk to cook something IRL and come back as a Level 6.
Its not as helpful as it sounds since you need way more exp per level as you get past level 10 and you don’t really notice it.
Time to fetch fiber and turn it into twine. It’s passive that way. That’s why FC changed the timing to make it.
Crafting is passive xp if you (can) do it in bulk.
Crafting stuff gives you xp. If you had stuff being made at your crafting benches, that gives you xp.
The game has had passive XP gain for a very long time (maybe since the beginning) - there is a setting for it in settings for private/singleplayer to be able to turn it off, but afaik it is on for all officials.
