Where it says abiding by the spirit of the rules. You dont have to take my word for it. If you want an official answer and you have an alt if you have one, and ask funcom thru zendesk with your alt and main account llisted and the server you play on if its okay. The outcome will be definitive.
At the end of the day it doesn’t list it in the rules. Also doesn’t list body vaulting. So it’s only you calling it an exploit and it’s me calling it a game mechanic that hasn’t been addressed good or bad.
Just to be clear @darthphysicist are you against this hypothetical story of one clan magically knowing they are about to get banned so they make alt accounts to save everything? Or against the use of alts all together? If it’s the second one then you clearly don’t understand the giant hole in the rules that’s unjustly banning players.

Ummmm while I agree that alt accounts, themselves, are not against the rules yet, how do you define an exploit except as a measure in the system outside of play and the intent of the design that gains you an advantage? This is no different than skybases. It’s something in the system that you can do that gives you a significant advantage over others. That’s the definition of exploit. Now you could argue that it doesn’t but we all know differently. Hell I don’t even use my alt account as a body vault but as a vehicle to transport Siptah an EL back and forth between my active characters and I know this is not on the intent and was doing so at significant risk. Right now she is just sitting there all decked out in encumbrance/carry capacity gear and waiting for attribute reassignment because transfers are off. The point is that just because it’s available doesn’t make it right or acceptable to use in a way to disrupt the game. Skybases are still able to be built (from last I heard anyways) so does that mean that because it’s there and available, its acceptable play? This is your argument and the only logical conclusion that FC can do to meet your expectations with this logic is to shut down all pvp servers until a fix is generated.

Why aren’t you? Show me in the rules where sky bases are explicitly against the rules. Or undermeshing? or adding additional code on your system and playing officials? There is an intent clause that has to be followed and if not, you will be reported on and, most likely, enforced on.
…It’s FC decision regardless if it’s explicitly forbidden or not. If someone is abusing a mechanic (even a legit one) and it is hampering the fun on the server, they need to be enforced on. I keep telling anyone that listens it’s more about intent over the letter of the rule but no one cares about that because they would rather push the envelope for that win against other players and then do more shady stuff to skirt around that.
Doesn’t anyone see this is the issue? That players that aren’t taking the understanding that a game is supposed to be fun for all and abusing mechanics is just as bad as hacking the game? That’s not to say some things need a coding fix because there are true game breakers out there but there is a level of responsibility that falls on the player as well to ensure the game is enjoyed by all.

So because I was mass reported for god knows what I should never be allowed to play the game again? Even after doing our absolute best on following rules. You are always going to be on that side until you see what the other side is dealing with.
I mean you’re comparing having an alt account to actively cheating.
Just get rid of pvp already and be done with it. @erjoh you play on console… you see the numbers are low. Do you realize how many of those numbers are alt accounts? New players aren’t going to fill those spots.

No I’m comparing body vaulting using an alt account as actively cheating. Alt accounts themselves are not an issue. Using them in unscrupulous ways is.
And why is that?! The biggest marketing any game has is from player interactions. If you embrace a toxic win-at-all-costs mentality and just have 120 people that you go and bounce server to server to play this way while taking out any new player that is trying to learn the game…yes that is the problem and it’s fiscally imperative for FC to stop that because its hitting the bottom line.

And no I won’t because that is BS that this game’s PVP has been bastardized to a level of play that is only enjoyable to a very small minority of folks. So I stick with it because it’s necessary to point out the issues that directly affect PVP folks with authority that can only be gained from experience. The problem here is that we play different games…I play CE while others are playing exploit the system.
So you are not using an alt account body vault as a means to hold onto gear while playing another character? At least a skybase has a footprint that doesn’t go away after 10 days.
They don’t have to. You have no right to play on Official Servers and therefore at the whims of their judgement.
Because what happens when they get banned with no reasoning and don’t have the will or knowledge to keep going after that. Because the game performance is at all time low. Because it’s player vs player not player vs empty servers. Honestly could think of a lot of reasons.
Reviews are terrible the game is losing players faster than gaining them. You can have the good guy mentality that everyone should be loving and helping but we are talking about pvp so it will never happen. There will always be players who go the extra length to ruin the game for others. Anyone who joins any pvp game knows this. If you can’t handle that thought then don’t play there.

If you got permanently banned tomorrow would you stop playing the game? Or would you get a itch to play the game you’ve enjoyed and put money into for so long? (yes permanent bans have been dished out to first time offenders)
PVE? I didn’t think PVE had a significant banning issue going on. But theirs isn’t about exploiting the system but about overbuilding. I think for PVE something has to be done against serial refreshers because its bad.

I’m against willful violation of rules and people trying to skate by dishonestly. The rest is rationalization about why its okay because “everybody does it”. That is the excuse of children.

Unfortunately with the way the tos is regardless if everyone does it or not if you want to continue playing the game it’s your only option. The tos has been the downfall of this game imo. Did absolutely nothing to stop the REAL exploiters and hackers instead it hurts the overall playerbase.

That’s not what I’m saying. I’m saying you compete with the idea of fun for all and not just for a win, IE sportsmanship.
On officials? probably because I am not going to skirt the rules and if FC feels I am that outrageous that needs to be perma-banned, then clearly the server administration and I are at odds to the point where its not going to be fun.
What rule? You are all just filling in the blanks to meet your narrative.

Lightbulb moment. This is it isn’t it? The game isn’t about PVP but about PVA (player vs admin) and other players caught up in it are collateral damage. Am i close?

Fair enough…the intent then. If they remove my account, then clearly I have done something over the top and if I disagree with that, then i walk away from officials because the trust has been broken. No skin off my back as I’m sure I can find private servers out there that would accept me since I have built a rep throughout the years (hopefully a good one…I try anyways).
However I don’t think I would because I have continuously tried to work at ensuring all are having fun and trust that is quite obvious. Now I could be caught up in a bureaucratic decision and that is where the zendesk objection/repeal request comes in.

I lost connection with some really great people while playing this game because of this aspect…i flat out refuse to accept that this is the way to play the game in any mode.
I came back to play for a little over a week and in that time we got one shot by a player within his base. I watch the video back and it makes the sound of a zombie hitting me and I get 10 stacks of poison and instantly die.this happened for 3 hrs to all of us. Another server we go to someone’s base twice and both times we get the message “turn around before it’s to late” and instantly freeze up while the enemy kills us. THAT EXPLOITING not making another account to play a game.
Then to bring our journey to an end we get blamed for it all and reported so we left. Because we know there is just about nothing you can do to against reports. It’s completely broken.

And I could come up with something that could be considered an exploit in the way I define it too.
We can go back and forth more but there is no point. Were on two different sides of the fence and only Funcom can settle the debate with a clear answer. Anything else is speculation.

No, because its insane to even think its a valid reason. We know the rule about impersonating a Funcom employee, so dont try that one lol, but there is no rule about “impersonating a banned player”.
And weve seen people complain in the forums about wrongful or silly bans (mine included), so how does building a bridge drive off players? It doesnt.
Not all banned players are the evil scourge of the internet. Some are.
So we just ban people for being deceptive? Lying? Saying something you disagree with or dont find funny?

I’m not sure the playerbase is what you think it is. If by playerbase you mean specifically the pvp playerbase, I’m not so sure there are that many reconcilable differences any more. Pvp is what it is and if people dont like the official rules and think pvp has to be played on officials, then I think FC is expressing the equivalent of “There’s the door.” All the hemming and hawing has been going on for years about pvp dying and as far as I can tell, its the same people with the same complaints and its either dead or fine. Nothing can be dying for so long without being dead by now.
I find it also funny that the issue of an alt is so surprising and contentious considering all the complaints of “I WAS BANNED FOR NO REASON!” that I read here. This one is pretty darn clear. Its so obvious to me that I am not surprised pvp is in the state it is claimed to be in. Common sense rules are clearly not common sense, to the point of ad nausea repetition. This is pretty basic. Anyone who can’t understand it, will be suspended/banned for some reason, if not this, very shortly, and it shouldn’t surprise them. If you don’t get it, that should be an indication that you don’t understand the rules at all.
