Yes, there are many many PVE and PVE C private servers that are run wonderfully
But not PVP servers that fit the criteria I and others have mentioned unfortunately.
Even the most popular PVP privates have those caveats. While not requiring donations, they circumvent that (often illegal) notion via their Discord shops. “$5 for purchase of 100 arrows” type deal.
So when another clan beats the doners… They often cry and of course the admin has to consider their paying clientele.
People are fickle little bastards and of course the risk of PvP can often bring out the worst. Including favoritism.
It all goes back to trust. If I’m with real world friends, I trust these folks to admin right with me. If I don’t know you, I don’t. If I don’t trust the admin is done fairly and without bias, then I’m not having fun and therefore wasting time playing a game that is not fun. If I didn’t want to have fun, I would have gotten another job and at least make some $
Okay…anyoew who thinks carrying a bomb is a good idea hasnt attempted raiding a base on the side of the volcano or anywhere that requires climbing. So many scenarios this wont work for this game specifically. Youd have to get rid of building anywhere that isnt ground level, remove climbing, remove the bat. No thanks. SirDave is on point, reduce distance they can be placed. Craftimg bombs in inventory id be open to alternatives, like adding a perk line specifically for crafting just to do it outside of an artisan bench but we all know nothing like that will happen.
Id personally love age of war to reinvent how we raid bases with siege equipment like battering rams for gates, ballistas, grappling hooks, whatever.
As of the current meta i will tell you the number 1 way to not get youre base raided in a day:
Get compotent fighters in youre clan or join a clan with compotent fighters.
Everyone plays a role in base defense, even those who arent good at fighting. The base needs repairs and other tasks need to be handled but do NOT underestimate the power of good fighters, wether theyre on youre team or the opposite, good fighters make the plays. Get good at fighting or find some to join otherwise good fighters WILL take youre loot.
Thay is what i hoped Conan could be. But offlining is so much more effecient, people won’t raid when you are online. And repairing allows online defense to turtle up, so then itnis as you say place bomb after bomb just wasting time.
Then dont build a base on a pvp server. Be on for raid times or play with a team that will be. I just defended a base last week 10 of us vs 20 people. Thats not an exageration.
Dont want to be on for raid? Well find a good stash spot or body vault.
Yes body vault. I wish it wasnt a thing but it is and thats just how conan exilea pvp is.
I dont go to bed during raid time if im fighting compotent people, and the compotent people dont mess with my crew on xbox servers because we always dawg them. Not being arrogant its just the truth.
A well designed gutter base wont be easily raided if it jas a bubble popped.
Losing pride. That’s the answer you’re looking for @Taemien.
Losing valuables is worse Some stuff is rare. Structures you build fast with 4x harvest rates.
I believe the increase in distance of placement may be a fix for bubbled ceiling bases…
I’ve suspected it since the change.
Otherwise you have to wait until they get lax and don’t bubble so you can use arrows.
A great example is the hanging base between black galleon and sinkhole. You can’t treb it. It’s so small that the bubble covers enough to mitigate the splash from arrows.
I agree the distance is too far despite this.
But coupled with x4 and blood crystal return on PvP officials it makes the get up and go too easy. I’ve already written this regarding my clan’s most recent playthrough but again we were up and running in a meta bubbled base with everything we needed within 48 hours.
I shouldn’t be able to do that regardless of my experience. This was without raiding or finding loot.
My personal view is that the moment any private server charges actual cash for anything other than sharing a rental if that’s a thing (some servers can be expensive I guess), then I would not play on those servers.
So saying that, my servers have cost me around £480.00 these past couple of years. A kid in college or someone not able to afford that would need to share that cost or just close the server down. We all pay for the use of Official servers via the cost of the game, DLCs and Bazaar ‘stuff’.
If players want a particular style of play that Official and other private servers do not meet can always, very easily, set up their own server and manage it (in the background preferably) however they prefer. This applies to PvP private too.
O-kay - but what solution would you go for then?
There are obvious solutions available if you want to use them. If you choose not to use any of them then it’s a little like, I really want an icecream, but I don’t like any of the flavours at this shop. Well then, try another shop or open your own and produce whatever floats your culinary canoe.
A very loose ballpark figure for a monthly server rental is around two or three coffees and muffins per month.
I don’t feel anything really hurts anymore when I play solo, except if I am set back from star metal to stone tools but with stash boxes spreading it around I can mitigate those odds, or if I am remote and loose my map room maybe.
Everything else feels like either an easy acquisition or a non essential loss, like I don’t any fancy thralls.
When I play in my large clan however its different, the greed and loss goblins set in because everyone feels a sense of large acquisition when you have literal boxes of thralls, boxes of DP and all the endgame goodies and 20 spares.
The usual churn in a large clan goes like, first lots of PVP fun and raiding, massive resource acquisition, some rival pokes their head up with a decent size clan (usually but not always) we smash them and raid them out in pvp, but then if they don’t quit and keep coming back we get sick of it because we need to all be online way more then we care to be, everyone I tend to play with is an adult with somewhat of a life, so we usually opt to body vault and just move on, because base guard duty (has to be multiple if the server keeps filling up) is a chore.
holding onto loot is burdensome you become the dragon living in the cave to guard his horde, having nothing but an ancient spear and reaper poison is the most liberating thing in the world.
In addition, I would also get a small amount of strategically important build/armour/weapon/etc stuff together and pop it in some chests way up in a jungle tree where it’s not easy to see (hopefully) - just in case
This one would note that it has been easy for awhile.
Bases are paper maché and IEDs are cheap and powerful.
In the dance of warfare, Sword has broken Shield.
This one solos with more success than this one thinks is indicative of a competent and coordinated opposition.
Soloing a clan shouldn’t be too easy.
Even if it is a clan of persons whose parents may have mistaken their heads for basket balls and dribbled them frequently in their formative years.
In this one’s opinion, there are many ways to address the issue, most prominent in this one’s mind would be taking the current explosive jar out of the handcrafted category and moving it to either the alchemist or casting table.
This one has other suggestions, such as defensive thrall AI and durability of permanent structures modification, ect… But those are lots of moving parts. Especially thrall AI, perhaps too complicated.
This game has it’s own particular flow of combat and destruction, and historically useful fortification principles are useless with those realities.
Flavour wise, Conan wasn’t a mad bomber. The setting wasn’t chock full of every siege resulting in victory for the aggressor through mass use of explosive charges.
It just feels bad to this one.
Only the pleasure of seeing a half dozen bullies come running back to their ego monument, reduced to rubble, and all their precious loot decaying at the bottom of the Dagon Dungeon while a fool in a mask and gilded banana hammock does a haka on those smouldering ruins, keeps this one coming back.
In short, the pay out isn’t the hard fought victory, which was almost a foregone conclusion, the pay out is knowing a consortium of @$$holes were made miserable.
And that seems the intent of the game design, griefing is the win.
on pvp server the point that is important is the spots you own, so your base, it can take months or even year to acquire a spot on a particular server, the farming stuffs you can get in few days. that is the point for solo player or little clan. huge clan will not care about spots, anyways they never stay more than 2 weeks on a pvp server, and jump from server to server, which is not the case of solo players and little clan.
in my case it took me around 6-7 months to acquire the crevice (after long fight and ability to surive on a pvp server who was populated by 40 people at this time). it was when conan was in a better state 4 or 5 years ago.
