Land Claim Abuse on Official Servers: Feedback/Discussion

This topic is temporarily closed for at least 4 hours due to a large number of community flags.

The system temporarily closed the thread due to the volume of flags on the thread. If it happens again and I see that it has happened, I will close the thread due to the flags.

I was a section admin for a large forum about CG technique and art. Sometimes the mod needs to temporarily close the thread for a few reasons. #1 so nothing goes south while they make corrections or deletions. It’s funny seeing replies to posts that no longer exist. #2 There’s also the cool-down factor when there are 2 or 3 guys sweating it out in their mom’s basement living for that last-word reply that will make them right, righteous, or show everyone how witty they are. #3 There’s also internal mod and admin chats - sometimes while talking about what should be done if anything, it’s good to stop it first. There are other reasons as well… Since it was an automated 4-hour closure I guess it was #2 there - which fits perfectly.

But who really cares? Let’s get back on topic and stop picking each other apart over things that do not matter to ā€œLand Claim Abuse on Official Servers [Official Questions to FC Officials]ā€ or that do not matter at all!

@TeleTesselator.
Thank you very much once again. If I can add something here to all the fellow members is that the forum gives you the right to direct message to someone. So if you have a different opinion and you feel insulted from another members reply you can use this path to solve your ā€œpersonalā€ issue. We are all adults here, we don’t need referee to speak or act for us.
I totally recommend this path to solve your misunderstandings here, it is working perfectly for me the last 2 years and helped me to understand my ā€œmistakesā€ too. Several times my poor English was the reason of misunderstandings.
We are all players here and some of the members have greater experience because of their profession, so their answers could be more direct and look a bit harsh. I will suggest the simple players like me to stand back and give appreciation to this reply even if it was a bit rude. In all the professions globally, some technicians speak to clients with terms that the client cannot understand. So the client is confused and so it goes.
Yet here we are not under these terms, we are all fellow gamers having conversations and opinions. Let’s keep it there please, thank you.
@Ulyssi forgive my off topic.

Just this, sadly.
We finally get a thread with a Funcom employee willing to answer questions about land claim abuse on OFFICIALS and these two go off the rails trying to get it closed. Not the first time either.
AND neither play Official servers, what a shocker. . .
Why are the forum Mods allowing this toxic abuse? People need to get some 30 day suspensions for this behavior.
Now flag me, because that is what you do.

Actually it’s hard for me to build something where I have a map room, two animal pens, all benches and one or two altars without thinking that I am abusing the land claim. Even if I make this on the footprint of one animalpen.
I am thinking of renting a server, so I don’t have to have to be scared about bans. And have some more freedom for me and others that want to play on my server.

But if these rules for official are mostly because of server performance issues, shouldn’t I have the same rules on my or any other private server?

On private i see the problem that when I get performance issues I will get no support by funcom. By the way I am on PlayStation so my only option is g portal.
I had a server for 12 month in 18/19 and it wasn’t a good experience. Massive performance issues even after wipes. (invisible npc and players… Lag and many other things)

Having played on both Private Servers, as well as Official Servers, I can honestly say that the difference, in my opinion, is night and day, with regards to how administration works.

With Private Servers you have, normally, a very active admin, acting in the interests of the server for the benefit of everyone that is playing on that particular server. If an issue arises, whether through land claim, foundation spam, or anything else, they tend to be quick and decisive in their actions, and as a general rule of thumb, the more helpful a player is on a Private Server, the likelihood arises of a relationship, of sorts, between a player and the admin, resulting in a smooth running of the Private Server in question. Toxic players do not tend to last very long at all on a Private Server.

Now, with PvE (c) Official Servers (I will only speak concerning this type of server as it is the type that I know best), due to staff shortages and/or lack of resources to monitor every individual server, certain behaviours are born, and allowed to breed, which in turn, spreads like a cancer to other aspects of the server resulting in poor server performance, poor player integration and a general lack of empathy when issues arise as players perceive non action from Funcom as a sign that bad behaviour is allowed to continue resulting in fair, and honest players, to remain silent on the subject for fear of being bullied in global chat, or reviled for daring to help the server by suggesting an attitude adjustment to toxic players behaviour.

It also doesn’t help when, a report has been compiled and posted - via Zendesk, for instances such as land claim, foundation spamming, etc… action isn’t forthcoming within a timely manner. Because of the aforementioned staff shortages and/or lack of resources, most people will realise that of course there will be a delay in the processing of each report, but when, at times, reports are not actioned after 3 weeks and the toxic behaviour continues unabated on the Official Server, why do you think players leave and don’t come back?

But even after a report has been filed and a Funcom admin looks at it to action it, if warranted, you then have the added hindrance of inconsistency. For example, a clan moves onto an Official Server, creates a large base, blocking off some well-known travel ways and then adds decorations and lighting to their base. They then start adding alters and animal pens and placing thralls and pets in and around them, and to fill the gaps they then place housing / structures for aesthetic purposes. The end results in a well built, fully functioning base, but on an industrial scale which results in a FPS drop as you travel near it. But that’s not all… Because the clan has built such a base, they do not want to have neighbours so they build outlook / signage posts hindering other players from building in that area - and remember, this is on a PvE (c) Official Server so buildings can not be destroyed by other players.

Another player, wishing to build in that area can not do so because of the clan’s foundation spamming and land claim abuse reports the issue to Zendesk and waits a response. After a couple of days he receives an email and he thinks nothing more of it. A couple more days later another email arrives saying the issue is now closed and the end result is the original base and clan remain on the server. However, undeterred, the player creates an identical report as his first one and this time, presumably looked at by a different Funcom admin acts accordingly and after a few days the clan is banned for land claim and eventually the base falls into decay.

Those of us that play solely on PvE / PvE (c) servers require consistency in actions meted out by Funcom admin staff and quicker responses to our reports. You have provided us with a top notch game and all we ask is that you continue to provide us with a top notch environment to play it on.

Thank you for your time, and consideration.

it’s okay.

The report system on this forum is much like the report system on officials. Easily exploitable.

It does matter if it affect multiple players on clarification. It is like saying police abuse is fine lets just sweep it under the rug. A extreme scenario but same concept. Rules should be clear like bylaws or governmemt ruling. I have to go through HOA bylaws all the time and lawyers agree with my assesment on the rule yet I am wrong here give me a break.

Agreed but difference is no one ban on here when these rule enforcer community think they are right yet they break rules here. Clearly rules states to agree even if you disagree.

There is no performance issue on the server side this is all hardware issue on client side because ps5 players dont experience lag. I started experience lag recently due to some code update they done.

We could do with a little less pearl clutching from the Regulars please. This situation has been the same for six weeks now, with scant few of us putting up a resistance.

This is the exact situation that has unfolded on Officials. People are weaponizing the system, and exploiting their coziness with the powers that be to cause havoc and destruction. I am one who could be among the coziest yet I stick with the players. The players.

Why are some opposed to free play? Is it because they run servers? Or is it because they can’t exist in a world where we are all free?

Officials have been undermined from the beginning. Damn it.

@Barnes
I had to go to translator to learn the word undermine. Thank you for this.
There are more reasons than a couple, for someone to create a private server. In the past I rented one just to play with some friends barbaric mode. At the end they quit from the very first days and I left alone. I unlocked the server and the noob river had no space to put a bedroll in just a few days. After a week I received messages that if I won’t change the difficulty of my server they’ll quit… Go figure :person_facepalming:t3:. So I closed the server.
My pvp clan had the locked server la Legion and share password only by Facebook. Yet I managed to join in their server because I followed another player from psn, so I entered their server without a password. It was the best mistake of my life, they are real friends now. But, they were playing in a private server because they wanted to change parameters all the time, especially the days they had events. They had a crazy builder, a mastermind player (Psyko), I cannot name what he was fixing for us, it will take days, but I can tell you for sure that this player took this game to another lvl. So private servers cannot be compared with officials, privates are way better.
Yet… Officials have this freedom that you mentioned, this simplicity of the game as it is.
So I surely understand what official gaming means, especially if you are a hardcore fun of this game. So I totally agree in this freedom part and I feel sad in the thought of undermining officials, I really hope you are wrong on this one.
Because however I am again off topic, about land claim abuse, I believe that since Zendesk took part, the officials are way better, so shoot me :rofl::rofl::rofl:.

Good people. Really good people play on Officials. I’m not knocking Privates, I’m simply saying some of the finest people I’ve met in my history of gaming have come from Official PvP. I’ve been gaming since our TRS-80.

I just wish some people could have a little empathy. It’s from there that compassion grows, and soon you can understand why someone might make mistakes on a server, but not deserve to be wiped.

I’ve said several times, even in this thread that I play official. If you’re going to dish out personal attacks at me at least have the courtesy to pretend you’ve read anything I say.

Despite the herd mentality, I’m not here just to troll. I’m here to give my feedback, whether you like it or not. I don’t like yours and you don’t like mine. No excuse to call me a troll, or an alt. Don’t blame me for the thread locking when most of the flags dished out were against me.

@Cattibria you know the activity/veracity of which I speak, from the lowest of the low Reddits to the highest of the high Straight Dope Message Boards, ANY admission of trolling is met with an instant suspension.

Let’s not go there, we’ll be lawyering the rules out. :wink: Instead it would be supremely simple to just give out a few more ā€œacceptableā€ situations, and some rule-breaking ones, and we’ll go back and forth a bit more and we’ll be done.

I’m actually rather shocked that this thread is still open. I’ve seen other threads closed for a lot less. I guess the mods view this topic as an important one seeing as how they’re letting us continue the thread.

Back on topic, I like what Funcom has done to add some clarification to the rules. Because the pictured examples are egregious violations of the ToS, would it be possible to have some not-as-obvious examples of what constitutes a wipe/ban?

Also, I don’t think it should be bannable unless they’re repeat offenders. Wiped, yes. Banned, no. However, I will admit that this is solely my opinion and that others opinions are equally valid.

Don’t bite. Stay in topic @Barnes . You are better than that. Okay you aren’t, but still :wink:
