For the live of all thats holy limit the number of thralls a person ir clan can have. You dont have to do this with the crafters but when I enter an area where a clan has like 4 pens and almost a hundred tamed animals right outside New Asgarth the game slows to a crawl and the residents glitch in and out of existence. Im all for the tamed animals but there needs to be a limit especially on pve where they are rampant. Anither thing to note is the thralls left behind after clans no longer play. A dime for every time I run into an area where they are floating on non existent foundations. Great game though so keep up the good work.
Have you tried dragging world bosses into places where there is an overabundance of pets?
So long as the server you are playing on has the thrall decay system enabled… then if no one from the clan logs in for 14 days straight then on the 15th day the thralls & pets will despawn.
This suggestion pops up regularly, and I always feel it necessary to remind people that solo/co-op players exist. We need to cover a lot of land on our own and risk Purges all around the map. Thus it’s necessary to maintain a sizeable garrison of NPCs.
So if there’s ever going to be a limit of thralls and pets per player, it has to be toggleable from server settings, or an adjustable slider so each server admin can determine how many NPCs per player or clan is too many.
A slider would be a welcome addition. Not necessarily one to solve all issues, but at least an effective pain killer in a way.
Personally, limiting the thralls will also limit the number of pets you can have. I do not see an issue with thralls located at a base and fully agree with the limit of one follower while in the field. Considering that damage from a purge and trebuchet (which has a greater range than archers) can kill thralls, limiting their number is not needed. You also need to consider an attack at one location of the base my pull all the thralls in the base to that location. If the base is small enough, this will pull all that not blocked and can get to the location of the attack. Keep in mind that only 5 archers will attack a target or targets at a time. I have tested this in my SP game.
I didn’t know about the limit on archers attacking a target, I thought it was only for fighters.
I disagree to some degree. Fixed limit isn’t a solution, but from an admin’s perspective a slider would be a welcome tool into our toolbox considering server settings.
Then again, official servers in mind the game’s features need to embrace the concept of fluctuating diminishing return. Basically this means that the devs introduce a standard that we can then bend. Bending means our area(s) of focus gets priority, with diminishing return, and the quality of that end is based on the ruin of the opposite force.

My base is huge. The thralls shown here also responded from the two close by towers and the gate house on the left. They were attacking a leopard that prowls the area.
