Living settlements & AI in General

So today we had a small patch, that now enabled living settlements again on some servers, my question is why is it enabled at all in the current state? its not working at all, i made a few videos (bear in mind right now the server we play on are on VERY minimal load, as not a lot of people are on yet) I even restricted thralls from opening our doors, i restricted them on placeables and workbenches that i dont want them to go to, still the AI cant figure it out, so my question why is it still enabled if it is just not working? dont get me wrong i love the idea behind it, but currently it is mostly just a micromanagement annoyance, so i guess this is a plea to disable it until further improvements have been done to it, we just want to play this BEAUTIFUL game, dont ask me for videos before my heavy restrictments on where they can go, its way worse.

So bottomline why is it enabled when it simply put arent doing what it is supposed to do, bring life to your houses?

@Dana could you forwards this?

Seriously Funcom ? Shut off living settlements or are you guys sticking your head in the sand and hoping to keep players?

And the funny thing is feeback is pretty general to ask to put it off, as we did when they released it first time…so what to say,… i wonder for whom they are doing the game… players or themself.

PLEASE disable living settlements until it is fixed/working as intended, it’s so annoying to spend time farming rare crafters only to have them wander through doors that are supposed to be closed and die somewhere under the world after clipping through the environment. It’s so bad that I have had to put all of my crafter thralls in cages and only take them out when working on a recipe. That’s poor game design. At the very least, make it a setting each base owner can opt out of instead of forcing a broken mechanic on everyone.

I had to give up. The small patch made the game skip a lot and got down right unplayable in a fight. I lost to lag because even though it said my fps was 64 I was only seeing ever 24th frame.

And I’m sorry even with my forgiving definition of unplayable, that is unplayable.

Are you giving up for good this time, or just for the usual 30 minutes, as per usual..? Asking for a friend.

Till tomorrow because of the server lag.

I have actually left the game for long periods of time, but I am a Conan fan regardless of the game.

I am having the same issue on our small dedicated server. The LS is just not working, our thralls are just standing around. Even if you move/assign them to a Crafting Station they start for like 1 second and then “pop” right off the station and just stand there.

Any way to fix this? Or is it all just broken now.

Sadly no, we had to redesign our place to contain them, because we have a bar also, so we build a door we have to climb up to now, we cant have a door in ground level because of it, we locked the door, but as soon as we open it 3 followers head out, heading for benches, and now they then would be locked out, so the best way is to do that, and have no placeables they have access to, because if you do (see picture) so yeah this is why i made this post, nothing about it works sadly, and is why i dont understand why it is enabled for the time being.

New patch today and still zero attention paid to the living settlements being broken. Please disable it if you aren’t going to bother fixing it.

The bar counter with a barkeep is honestly the bigger thing causing issues, since it spawns NPCs that are suppose to walk into the bar to sit there. But it can spawn them in illogical places such as on top of roofs or underwater, and then the NPCs are stuck looking silly.

I would personally recommend that you dont put the bar counter in your main base and keep it in an entirely separate building far away (or not use tavern at all). Otherwise these spawning NPCs are going to cause you issues, potentially messing up the living settlement thralls with their pathing.

For me personally the LS thralls works as I expect them to, but this is most likely a performance issue. Are any of you reporting this on the console?

Before living settlements were enabled again, thralls understood their task of hammering (working on benches) now they “fight” over spots (even without a bar enabled) as you can see on the hookah screenshot up there, there is a queue, if you then place (and heavily restrict thralls movement) they hammer once, then just stand there looking at the bench, so my question is what exactly is working with living settlements? they cant figure out where to go (as you can see in above videos) they work for a few seconds, then just stand there, living settlements were made so your house/castle or whatever felt alive, but it have never felt more not alive, even if i test it in singleplayer they do the very same, despite the game on singleplayer runs like a dream, but i enjoy playing on populated servers, so singleplayer is just for testing (for me), could you try make a video on a populated server and show me how living settlements work as intended, my plea is just disable it until it is working, as of right now it is just a micromanagement annoyance, and make our castles feel less alive.

(the bar we have put in a completely separate place now, it dident fix anything regarding AI or living settlements in either place).

I just turned it off on my server.

Why not just disable the “Thrall Use” option for the stuff you don’t want them interacting with?

Came here to say I have no issues with living settlements in terms of stopping thralls from using certain things.

Yes! this is exactly the point! you have to restrict/disable the benches for it to then not be an annoyance! and even then they just stand there, where if you disable LS they work all the time, instead of just standing there! so whole point is, its not working and we players restrict & disable, where it could just be disabled on the officials, since it is not working at all :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: :victory_hand:

I think i understand what you’re saying. Living settlements is malfunctioning when thralls naturally visit benches. They’ll use it once and end up standing at the bench (or item) inactive hogging the spot. Am I right?

I wasn’t having this issue on my server when they first activated LS. But now I see the same issue happening on my server.

Yes exactly this!

Please disable living settlements. Thralls are still ignoring commands to not walk through closed doors that are set for them not to use. Locking all of my crafters in cages is not a good solution but it’s the only one I found for avoiding this buggy behavior. Please provide an option to turn this broken feature off.

The most recent bug fix / patch did nothing to address the Living Settlements bugs that continue to persist on official servers where Living Settlements is enabled, including thralls ignoring locked doors to wander off base and get killed. PLEASE DISABLE LIVING SETTLEMENTS UNTIL THIS ISSUE IS ADDRESSED!
