Bug: Chest expiring and losing ALOT of itens.
Why i think its a bug: Chests (where you keep itens) are expiring/losing stability right in front of me, inside my base, where i am almost every day, using the chests, passing by, etc.. After the first one expired i used the hammer to look the time remaining and all my chests where with 239hrs. The chests where there for weeks before starting desapearing/losing stability.
What makes me a sad panda: i lost 100% of my final game itens; especially thralls. ALOT of them.

Steps on how to reproduce issue:

  1. place down a chest.
  2. Fill with items
  3. Wait till they randomly lose stability.
  4. Event log states that the chests lost stability.

Just a quick check as to where are you building?

behind the giant camp. at the base of the cliff

My guess is that you are up against a no build zone for the camp. And if the game loads the chests slightly off coordinates it gets flagged and “deleted”. Just a guess. try putting chest as far away from where the camp side is and see if that has an effect.

I say this becaise from other posts where thralls are in the air, there is a thoery it is loading them in wrong coords initially and thus think they are on another object a few meters away.

Yep, as biggcane55 brings up, some places, certainly too near creature camps and spawn areas can mess with things. You would need to replicate the issue if you built in some other area not too close to Camps or Settlements or Towns before it could be looked on as a possible bug.

This is the view from the edge of the giant campo to my base. The chest was way up close the the cliff, Its far away from de camp, i dont think it could be it

It is a possibility that the reach of the auto decay system for POIs might be affecting it I think its just simply the legacy bug for placeables. It doesn’t matter if you refresh sometimes they lose their “tethering” to the main structure.

Other than waiting patiently for a fix to finally be implemented after years, I suggest that you, at least once a week, move and/or remake the chests.

I am PVE.
I have thousands of chests.
I understad and apreciate the sugestion, but will be easier to stop playing.

…you do you but how… and why…

And people wonder why official servers perform poorly.

I have a high end PC, and play in singleplayer where things like numbers of chests affect no one but me, and I still don’t think I’ve ever had more than a few dozen chests in a game.

Because i organize the itens between chests.
Some chests are full, some have 5 stacks.
I usually have safes / vaults, but this single time i did use chests in my new base.

I also organise items between chests. It is still easy to have only a small percentage of what you are using. The game still has to load all of that storage - which is widely known to be one of the more resource intensive elements, and one of the biggest causes of lag when used to excess. But like we said - you do you.

Greetings @lodjunqueira ,

Thank you for sharing this!

Can you, please, send us a screenshot showing an example of how you’re setting up these chests?

And there are people who accuse me of overdoing it with building and storage on my official server.

Are your chests on the floor or stacked on shelves?

I’m very particular regarding inventory management and organization myself. I think the most clan and I had was almost 100 chests at one point. We thought that was too much so paired it down to a few dozen. Even then, processed mats and gear are truly only what is needed imho. I stopped keeping everything too, I throw out so much. But what is kept has intention and a place.

I know that it isn’t for everyone and I appreciate that there are multiple playstyles but knowing and respecting the knowledge I have now I could never justify past 100 chests let alone the astronomical idea of thousands. SP? Fine, I can corrupt my game anyway I like XD

I realize there’s some worry of certain items being discontinued, what with once prized thralls, mats and previously glorified weapons disappearing from RNG or removed outright. Justification to have those saved, I see it. Even then, you do not need chests full of SoCs… But if you have multiple chestfulls of every seed type too… I think there’s a problem

I do have chests with every seed type. And chests of lots of decorative items that I’ve picked up around the world. I hoard all sorts of stuff, and keep it organised so that it is easy to find, and still only wind up with dozens of chests - don’t believe I’ve ever reached 100 (but solo, rather than a clan, so can understand how that would naturally increase the numbers somewhat). And that is in singleplay, so there’s no risk of my hoarding affecting anyone but me. Still can’t comprehend how someone could get to hundreds, let alone thousands…

Exactly, in SP you can even pave over the entire map if you want to.

From my cursory glance in the wiki, there’s probably about 2-5k usable items, give or take? In absence of clarification from OP, it would make sense if they collected 1 type of each item and strictly have their own chest to have thousands. Brainstorming and trying to wrap my head around it lol
