Hello everyone!
Hope this post finds you well. Making this post to share an idea that was in my mind for some time, in a bit of detail.
With 3.0 over the horizon and game getting significant changes to its business model, I would like to see a major change to how the maps work in the game, and I want to explain why.
For now, maps are not interconnected and we have to make a decision to play one of the two available ones. If we see more maps coming to the game, this is going to be a harder choice and will split the population even further into different groups.
Instead, maps could be made as an extension of the Exiles Lands map and allow us to move freely between different maps without having to do a character transfer. I understand that we can’t add any more land mass to the Exiles Lands map currently due to technical limitations. Is it possible to move to new maps through loading screens like how it is sometimes done in other games?
Siptah is a paid map, I get it. My proposed solution to this would be to make Siptah free for all, move all the building pieces from it to shop to justify making the map free (of course, people who already own it will have them unlocked). Funcom could give out a unique set of placeables or something on those lines as a token of appreciation for people who bought the map before it goes free.
Why I think this may be a good idea?
- New players will have a lot more content to play with, without having to pay. Meaning longer play time and higher player retention.
- Servers have more population since the population is not split between maps and active community due to higher number of players playing at any given time.
- Existing players will be able to play on all current and upcoming maps on a single character. This will allow completionists to achieve their goals.
- Solo players don’t have to lose anything when moving between maps.
This example could then be followed for future maps and is also in line with the idea Funcom talked about recently; “Give out core content for fee to all players and support their development by battle passes and in-game shop items”.
I am not a PvPer, sorry for not talking about it. If Funcom wants to move forward with this idea, I’m sure our awesome PvP community will be pitching in with their ideas.
Thanks for going through the post!
