The first few items of the new impending update have been announced. Here are the details thus far:

Post your thoughts below.

You mean that they have failed to post HERE, in the public forum, where people might actually expect to find announcements. Such a perfect example of funcom communication.

I think it will be more fail then fix.

“Based on consistent feedback regarding how it impacts performance, the Stygian Legion”

Took how long? YEARS?
Oh yes, funcom listens so well, about a well as my X.

“Stamina is getting readjusted,”

“We’re adding a compass!”
Only took 7 years for that one.

“building placement”
This has me curious.

“there is not a Public Beta this time around, but we may run them again for a future release”.
Just shut them down and quit janking us around like any of this will get tested before going live.

Ok so here are my own thoughts at this point in time. They may change as more details become available.

  • Based on consistent feedback regarding how it impacts performance, the Stygian Legion is withdrawing from al-Merayah Keep, to be demolished and removed permanently. The Dogs of the Desert have reclaimed the area, drawn to the cave shrine linked to Jhebbal Sag that remains intact.

Look I completely get the concerns around performance. But this is an over reaction. Personally speaking I do not wish to see it erased from existence entirely, not counting the cave. The biggest problems were:

I) the sheer size of the structure was uneccessary. Seriously how many pieces was it, and how many pieces of the structure were merely empty decorative rooms. Couldnt we have just downsized it instead of abolishing it entirely!?
II) the insane respawn rates! Between the multitudes of NPCs, both living and dead, is it an wonder performance takes a nose dive there?
III) enemies spawning in our bases and dungeons after we visit there.

  • Stamina is getting readjusted, also based on your feedback about stamina costs being too high. We want to meet in the middle – the cost of attacks across the board is being reduced by 50%, but regen is being increased to (mostly) their old values.

No strong sentiments on this one either way just yet. I will reserve judgement until I see how it plays out.

  • We’re adding a compass! Unlock the Wayfinder knowledge to learn how to never get lost again. Once crafted, simply keep it in your inventory and you’ll see a new heading indicator next to your temperature.

I suppose I can tolerate it IF it is optional. Seriously, the game is easy enough now and it does not need to be further casualised. Completely uneccessay.

This is not a change featured within the Update, but it certainly raised my eyebrows.

“Also important to note: there is not a Public Beta this time around, but we may run them again for a future release.”

Wow this can only be a good move right, pushing a bundle of fixes straight to live without first doing a Beta [sarcasm]. But then I suppose our Testlivers seldom ever get listened to and the bugs detected get pushed to live anyway. I predict the Update will be in need of a Hotfix.

The compass costs at least one feat point, has to be crafted, and has to be kept in your inventory (and therefore has some amount of weight)

That’s not “casualizing” anything lol, you could already open your map and check north that way, that’s certainly a less immersive and “casual” way to navigate than making a compass

:zipper_mouth_face:

Why not make it an active Stygian purge camp?

:100:

My sense of direction in game is worthless
The QoL mod is top of my list.
I’m sure my angry ranting about always running in the wrong direction would be so entertaining if streamed.

That looks scary like me 40 years ago.

They can add all the new content they want, but if creatures still don’t fight back (or just use their fists) then there’s no point in me returning to the game.

Honestly when I read that part in the original text I had to start laughing.
Typical FC - they go after the fly with a bazooka.

I guess they’re saving it for the summer, for more free content. They’ll announce the return of a smaller version of Al-Meryah with 300% respawn rate (FC balance™) with the chance that if you go there a Starcaller will randomly spawn at your base for the next 14 days.

This one doesn’t give a fig about the main bullet points. This one honestly dislikes that they exist.

Give this one a a fixed bug list.
If this is the time they are catching up on technical debt, then show it the cluck off.

“there is not a Public Beta this time around, but we may run them again for a future release”.
There’s the quality we come to expect.
Not even doing a real test run of the hypothetical fixes.
Certainly this won’t be once more half baked and half @$$ed.

Looks good so far:

  • The fortress may be replaced later. But removing it for the time being is a good step.
  • Stamina semi-reversal will have to be tested, but it at least goes in the right direction. At least I simply cannot play the game with the official stamina settings.
  • Compass… well, yeah, may be interesing for players without mods. Okayish.

  • al-Merayah
A revamp of the fortress would be preferable to its complete removal, however a redesign of the place would be far more work and is outside the scope of a bug-fixing focus. Leaving it for now until they have more time and resources to dedicate towards a proper rework would mean leaving a buggy and poorly performing eyesore in the game for an indefinite period. I hope they do come back at a later point and put it back in with all of the associated bugs fixed, a better design, and include loot that makes completing the siege and killing the boss worth the effort.

  • Stamina
I’ll wait to see, but I never liked the stamina rebalance, so this might be good.

  • Compass
I have played this game long enough that I have no need for a compass, but I do not object to it. I would have objected if it was available from the moment we came down from the cross as another detraction from the survival, but requiring knowledge investment and crafting it as an item is exactly the way it should be.

  • Bugs
The blog post is just an announcement of the upcoming patch. We’ll get the bug fixes in the patch notes.

@Eradicati0n should have built Al‘Merayah, many of us said that in the past.
And i guesss most of us would still stand by this point.
Not only could he downscale it, i think it would also look much more intresting and beautyful.
And as a history nerd (if i‘m allowed to say that) it propably would be even more historically accurate!

But of course they go at it in the usual FC manner, instrad of balancing things they completeley remove it.

And where are the list of bugs they are actually fixing?! @Kikigirl could remove those things from her list… are they even aware of that list?
… are they working with it?

Who knows… go figgure i guess :man_shrugging::rofl::fu:

Edit: and i also agree with @Wak4863 here about the compass, not so much about the complete removal… just strange what FC does

It has to be demoralizing to their content team to see the work they put into the Al‘Merayah event wiped out because players feel it was garbage (for various reasons)

I wonder how many other “features” added during the Ages will be removed as well? Not a good look in my eyes when they say they want to do some fixes and they just end up deleting events, changing in game values and adding things. Zero mention of bug fixes.

Excellent! there was a sultry T4 lady blacksmith that used to spawn in the old Al Merayah that i used to always try and acquire PLUS there was 3 sorcerers in there! and during the headhunter event a slave wagon used to be parked there as well. Used to be a good fast run nabbing the 2 sorcerers by the boss croc grotto just west of Al Merayah and then the 3 sorcerers in Al Merayah, at the moment the closest slave wagon to me is way over by the Summoning Place. hopefully they put something cool in the underground cave while the Great Hunt is not active, and its not just sitting there empty.

Dare I ask…does Xbox get to partake in this?

It is the best notice so far hope when they rework and bring it back they put it in another place longer from everything.

It should (hopefully) be obvious that this update wasnt to generate hype but to warn players about upcoming changes. These are changes you don’t want to be blindsided by. “We fixed X bug” would he great to know, but nobody has to be prepared for X bug to suddenly be fixed.

That said, Im still hesitant about the scope of the bug fixing if they are saying they are “looking at fixes” for the major stuff. That does not make it sound like significant progress has been made.

Yea, i am very disappointed with the overall lack of information with the announcement.

I am glad they are concerned with the performance of the game it does have issues and it is a very important issue to be addressed, but they failed to really do anything more than just give a nod that there will be fixes as well or what other performance changes they are probably going to implement.

What are some of the fixes and other possible changes to address performance related and stability issues?

Biggest one for me, after playing Soulmask, Exiles AI is just bad, I want the game to be a challenge not a cheesefest.
