When you have played 10,000 hours a new map is quite appealing.
Funcom has to many other things to worry about and to work on. I have been playing on the Savage Wilds map mod for a little over a week now, got tired of Siptah crashing all day, and there is a lot to do on that map, different dungeons and areas, the mod developer has done a great job. Not only is it a different map it also has Siptah creatures and stuff in it
Yes, this is a gorgeous map, larger than EL, superbly designed. and taking into account the numerous dungeons, there is twice as much content there.
The Island of Women and the Island of Men are also very good.
I dont think the landscaping on Savage Wilds is as good as the Exiled map but the dungeons and adventuring content are much better imo.
I have not visited any of the custom maps in like 2 years.
But while I enjoyed parts of them, I very disliked that some of them are really huge but at the same time empty, and the landscapes are full of things that look out of place.
They have a good design team when it comes to maps at Funcom. Both EL and IoS are amazing.
As for mods maybe it would be possible to steal a map from Witcher 3 or something ![]()
Yes it’s true EL is beautiful
, but after so many hours lost it got boring. If the Funcom team could expand the map by two biomes it would be the prettiest map under the sun ![]()
They shall Just add New enemys , items , events and more grind like forging weapons armors If they add It to EL maybe cry babys stop asking about a New map The crybabys ASKED for Siptah and look now Siptah EMPTY a waste time and program.
I Hope They never add another New map.
Yes, that’s the default setting (somewhat empty).
You can change the population in the Admin commands:
- Open the console with the insert or tilde key ~ to access the command line.
- Type in datacmd SWadmintoggles
On the Server Adjustments tab you will see Savage Wilds Population Adjustment and click Turn On
Hope that helps!
Do you like wolves and rocknoses? This is how you get wolves and rocknoses. ![]()
I really like Siptah! I think its really great but honestly i play only pvp and its the challenge makes it very fun. Lots of hidey holes and a great sized map. I also think that is a lot harder pvp wise than exiled lands due to how open it is. Resources everywhere kinda help localize a lot of the map which reduces travelling. This is especially useful in pvp because i don’t need to travel all over when I am trying to remain discreet.
PVP servers are currently x2. I did like the thralls taking a lot longer to convert but thats because their value increases significantly. Pre Sorcery there were a lot of issues as well. I think the game needs a lot of TLC but it is moving in a good direction. The biggest issue are hackers and cheaters.
No point asking for new graphics. Its an older game but still looks great. New graphics would only come on a sequel and honestly its unnecessary. I don’t really get whats stopping you from playing Siptah now, its a great change of pace.
Its not what the game needs, but it would bring many people back to check the game out again. Bugs in this game are as old as the product itself. A new map can attract more players, bring more money to the game and bring more investment to fix issues that arise or have persisted in the game. I love conan and a new map would be fun! At the end of the day that is why i play this game. For me, making a new map is a win for Funcom as it could generate more revenue. But I would say that we won’t see a new map till after Dune’s release.
Battleground with objective pvp maps yes please
Bring new people to see a game that is not optimal is really, really a nice strategy.
“there will never be a second time to make a good first impression”.
And even if it was good, new people not always means good things.
If so, there will never be given the importance it is to PLAYER RETENTION.
No matter how you look at it, it is a known fact in the industry that “rate of change” is a tricky subject that players barely never understand, they look at the game from the perspective of what they like. On the other hand, the people developing the game look at the game by other scope, and can see a lot of “needs” the game has that players never do.
I can tell you as any other person in the industry of development can tell you: If they dont stop adding things without making them stable, this will be the end of the game, not the lack of new things.
Not that Funcom needs any schooling on that:
They practically wrote the book on it.
Yea I suppose now that you put it into a pvp perspective I can see the appeal of it for a pvp purpose
I do remember finding a neat cave at the start near the beach that i used to complete some of the journey steps. And I did build a small base using the cave near I believe it was the vault of the fiends? It had heaps of gold and black ice all over the place.
I definitely think that bug fixes and stability are super important and should be a priority. But you do forget that this game is incredible despite its issues. Why are you still here if that wasn’t the case. Whenever i convince someone to try the game, they play the game for over a hundred hours easy. This is a very impressive metric of retention. A new map would work very well, however it does take a lot of resources to do.
I totally agree that we need more maps in the game, I understand the frustrations in siptah and also the frustration with the bugs in this game but for the love of God I already have a lot of time in this game and I can’t stand the same map anymore… Always the same thing, I already have the entire map in my memory… this is quite annoying… It’s not our duty to worry about bugs, that’s the devs’ job and responsibility, the same goes for a well-designed map and make it fun. So yes, more maps please and let Funcom work and keep everything working in their time.
So, we need the work of making a new map to clog the pipeline ?
A lot of people talk about some map mods, and the maps they make are good, the maps. But a map is not a level. Getting a height map and a bunch of assets in a file and posting it as a “new map” is easy, one person alone can do it.
But that is not a level. Half of the map mods that exist would not pass the test of level design offered in the first semester of a game development course.
To make a map there is a lot of work involved, a lot of testing, a lot of settings. Most map mods offer files that are made basically to offer visual aid for gameplay that already exist in the game.
What does a new map offer ? And dont say “new places” because that might be a big thing for egotistical players who think the only ones playing the game are themselves.
To the new player, to the people who dont even play Siptah, Exiled lands is map enough. And given the stats on who plays Siptah, they are enough people to give a hint that we dont need a new map. To the new player, obviously, the Exiled Lands is itself a new map.
Now, what does a new map offers to people who are playing the game ?
What does it makes better for people to socialize in their clans and follow up on their game progression ?
What does a new map solves in terms of systems that people have in the way of playing smoothly their game ?
What does a new map offers in terms of “enhancing” experiences to all players, not only those who might have done half of the stuff the game offers and want a new map or the zoomers (in terms of superficially playing and moving on) ?
But I can tell you what new map demands: Work. A lot of work.
Funcom wont get off easy by making the maps that those who like the mod use but most people dont really even see the need of playing it.
They have to make a map with camps that serve a purpose, things that work at least in theory, and systems that work on the underlying game. They cant make a map that randomly erase the database and simply tell the users “you land on your feet”. They cant make a map that has so many holes you can exploit the crap out of it without admin powers. They cant make a map with “half bassed” navigation mesh. A whole lot of things the users of “that famous map mod” never tell about that map.
The game do have a lot of problems, and as much as I like the game as it is, and it is intended to be, we gotta be objective.
There is a lot of things to do that combined cant possibly match half of the work into making a new map that worths core game work.
Like the “WoW” crowd who thinks Demon hunter and Evoker are new classes. Or that one of the many maps in their xpacs are new content.
We dont need more bug unused spaces to make the game more bland and dull. We need better optimized systems to build better bases, create settlements, control thralls, interesting thing to do with them, and with the land we have. Without that, it does not matter how many maps they make, the only ones happy will be the ones who hop from map to map not doing anything actually.
Again, what does a new map mean to people who are settled in the game for one reason or another ? And what that makes of new player experience ?
A new player comes, you have half a dozen maps to choose, then they sift through them and discover that because the systems are few and not working, basically all maps are the same thing with a different shade of sand or vegetation ?
What a player do when they find out that the npcs and settlements are mostly “cosmetic” as most of them are loot piñatas that serve no other purpose any map they go ?
What a player do when they find out that no matter what map you are, inventory is hard to manage, controls are dull, and thralls arent really that useful ?
Do you really think most players are dumb enough to feel in awe just because they are suffering subpar systems in different maps ?
Most of them arent. And that is why all games that do insert a bunch of maps has numerous threads saying they should stop expanding the world and making a better World instead.
We all know the posterboy for it:
